  • Amateur driving the Exocet (far from my cleanest lap of the day) vs a former pro driver in the ("poorly setup") Atom.

    You've got me so psyched. I've just started my build... The driver of the Atom has three times the money is his ride, and he "bought it" instead of building it. You gave him hell. Great job and fun to watch.

      To be fair, the exocet isnt a difficult build and who's to say he hasnt built that atom as it does come as a kit car.

      @jack-spicer1381 Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah guess the atom driver was shit, that's why he could handle the car and pull away from corners lol

      @@jack-spicer1381 if you can't tell the difference between these two drivers, I don't know how to help you.
      The driver of the exocet is way smoother and confident.
      But we don't know any of the details like Tire status and possible mechanical issues etc etc.
      These videos never do the truth justice.

  • @rickstengard

    Windshield should be glass for sure.
    While they look similar the Atom and Exocet are quite different in behavior, personality and track feel.

    Remember pro drivers often go slower to practice their form, driving line, and technique. That's how you get better at driving. Not just going all out for best time every lap.

      Fair point, but I happen to know this driver and this was...personal ;-)

    Windshield is definitely causing a lot of buffeting you can see it bounce, vibrate and bow. Certainly causing you some time. Great video though and looks like a lot of fun.

    The arial atom seems to have more power , but in terms of cornering speed they seem almost even.

      agreed.

    • @deejayimm
      @deejayimm Před 2 lety

      These kind of comparisons are never fair, they never factor in the same tires and the same driver, possible mechanical issues etc etc.
      I mean look at the beginning of the video where the atom was just casually staying behind the Subaru.
      It's just impossible to tell what actually happened.

    All things being equal ( which I do not think it is , I think the ariel is the better car ) it comes down to the driver , if the drivers were identical , then the atom would win , ......every time

    • @rickstengard
      @rickstengard  Před 5 měsíci

      Overall concur. For 1/4 to 1/8 the price I'd still take the Exocet. Atom driver was qualified and talented. Atom needed suspension setup work and likely tires.

    "pro" driver missing apexes by a mile.... There's certain basics pros usually nail no matter what car they're in or track they're at

  • @uncommonthinker7434
    @uncommonthinker7434 Před 5 lety +2

    Sorry but thats not a Ariel Atom..Maybe a clone of one..Ariel Atom looks completely different and has wheel fenders on all 4 wheels and that car doesn't have any

    • @rickstengard
      @rickstengard  Před 5 lety +7

      Paul Parker the blue car is an Exocet. The Atom is in front of the Exocet. And I’m absolutely certain it’s an Atom because I know the owner and driver.

    • @sl0w_racer
      @sl0w_racer Před 3 lety +1

      It looks like an SRA Atom - they made the track only versions - stiffer chassis etc. They often take the wheel arches (fenders) off in order to allow wider wheels doing so will create less down force though as those wheel arches do hep with downforce - especially on the Atom 4.
