Agree I think it’s much scarier than every other season and it’s so unique in how it’s structured
yea, the premise is really interesting and its by far the only season that is actually scary
i found it boring at the start, personally my fave season is 5 tho

Yh true cos at least with Murder house and hotel they were located in suburbs or City buh with Ronoake remote location with noone to run to. Lots of darkness and pure terror from the ghosts.
This isn't actually based on true events. But there really was a colonial settlement of people that settled on Roanoke Island and mysterious vanished. On a tree in the deserted settlement was a word carved into the tree "Kroatoan." No one knows if the word had anything to do with the settlers that vanished or not. There's all sorts of theories and superstitions surrounding the Roanoke settlement. They used the story of Roanoke and the word Kroatoan in season 1 of AHS. That was the word Violet was told and thought would make ghosts go away.
It does gets so much better and scarier !!
Ahs Roanoke aired late 2016, earlier that same year Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding starred in another Ryan Murphy production, American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson. The People Vs. OJ was a huge success and even earned Sarah Paulson an Emmy and Golden Globe for her work. You should consider checking it out, it's gotta be one of my favorite limited series ever made.

The other woman playing Lee (not Angela Bassett,) was from season 1. She ended up slitting her wrists and was one of Bens patients. Love when they bring actors back from previous seasons. ❤

The real story of Roanoke is an American horror story. Really recommend reading into it asap
for me this is the scariest season, it took me a rewatch to fully like it. I think it's really underrated, but i it's not meant for everybody.

Roanoke was such a fun watch because the marketing was very mysterious & vague. We didn’t even know the season’s official title until it aired or what the storyline was going to be.

I think this was a really clever way to disrupt expectations of the series. And these sorts of "documentaries" are very definitely a clear genre of horror story worth creating a pastiche of.
It's the only season to date without an intro sequence and, as much as I love Roanoke, I hate that it doesn't have an intro!
i think is is better without opening sequence cause viewers have to guess and have a lot of thoughts about what will happen next.

I dont hate this season, I think most fans that speak badly about this season is more in comparison to the other seasons than anything else . As with all the seasons it is a cool approach and idea. certainly drawing from different influences and as always good writing and fantastic casts/acting. I also think the first watch of this one is one of the “scarier” seasons. Hope you enjoy!

As for me, the last 5 episodes of the season are much more interesting than the first 5 episodes. So I'm looking forward for the rest of the season. For me, this is the scariest season of all, scarier than Asylum. I also think it's worth watching season 10. The first part of the season is quite decent.

First part of season 10 is in my opinion definetly watchworthy. For me it's a good tv show season but it's not that good of a AHS season, you know. Still good but can't be compared to these early seasons for sure.
The lost colony of Roanoke Island is one of this country's first and most abiding mysteries. Using this quintessentially American horror story as a backdrop to a low-budget rendition of Dateline was inspired.
i definitely recommend watching season 10!! i honestly haven’t watched beyond that season but i really enjoyed the first part of season 10, i think you’d really enjoy it based on your previous reactions!!

It's like those "true crime" shows where they have interviews with the actual people, but then actors reenacting the scenarios

Yess! My favorite season
This season is polarizing because like you said, it is different from the first five ones. Idk why, I love horror/scary movies, but when this came out, it did freak me out a bit. Except for mental horror (e.g. Asylum), I stand by Roanoke being among the top scary (Cult is a whole different scary).
i'll be honest and say i always slept on this season but after rewatching it i absolutely love it

The "inspired by true events" at the beginning is for the mockumentary and also real life. You should google Roanoke because it's actually America history. Googling Roanoke won't spoil anything. Roanoke was a real America legend, but Ryan Murphy's Roanoke is pure AHS fiction.

This is what I meant when I said that from season 6 American Horror Story gets experimental with its storylines: from this point forward, they will try a different storytelling device from season to season. They're still good in my opinion, but very different from what came before.

i love how they market this season, fans or viewers have to guess what is the concept of this season as they show some teaser's with different concept. this season is the SCARIEST with all the jump scare and different concept not same with other season. indeed this is one hell of a season for American Horror Story.

There's another trauma response that's been added to "Fight, Flight, and Freeze" - and it's "Fawn".
Doing a little digging, there are also three more lesser-known trauma responses used within this field (which I've yet to read up on to understand) - "Fright, Flag, and Faint". It's wild how many ways we react to trauma!
Aside from all this book learnin', I think you'll find this season wild and entertaining.

Yeah The Blair Witch Project was a huge inspiration for this season, and I get the feeling it does a better job than the new upcoming Blair Witch movie in works probably will.

Also I like this season for getting weird with its core storytelling, you'll know what I mean. Additionally I'd like to say S10 is an underrated gem, I think you should watch that one as well, at present I haven't watched S11 but upto S10 everything is good enough.
18:15 That was piggyman from S1, You might remember one of Ben's patient told he'd heard stories about piggyman and if he were to say 'hey piggy piggy' 3 times in a bathroom mirror at night piggyman will come and kill him, and that's what happened to him when Ben told him to confront his fears

For me this was the beginning of the downfall of AHS. I only watched two more seasons after this; didn’t feel like the show was producing at the same level of quality it once did before. Still a fun watch though! Enjoy!

Roanoke is actually a whole real colony, forever ago, that went missing, and was never found.. its mentioned in Murder House, where Billie Dean Howard suggests using the Croatoan "spell" to cast out the "gays".. this is of note, because the only clue we ever had of the missing Roanoke colony is Croatoan carved into a tree
This season is basically like My Paranormal Nightmare, its a show where people talk about their stories, and they have actors reenact their stories for entertainment purposes.. very sad that they didnt make an intro for this season, it was honestly the main reason i hated this season for awhile, but its grown on me now.. my favorite scene is the raining teeth scene

Well you've made it to season 6, i would say this along season 7 are the most underrated in the fandom. And personally i think is pretty good, this is the scariest season by far or at least you can tell they tried to be scary (horror movie type scary if you get what i mean). Säcrificing the intro was certainly a choice but they get a pass just for trying something new 🥲, at least you can hear it in the credits. The most memorable thing for me about this season is its marketing campaign, they went hard on that one, as someone else said they didn't let us know the theme of the season until like days apart from its release, and all we got before was a lot of teasers with different themes (aliens, monsters,random stuff, etc) and at the end they would show us a "?" as the theme. Theories ran wild and there was even one saying the season could be about the SCP foundation (iykyk), but at the end it turned out just one of the many teasers was the real one (and if you watch all of them you can tell which one was), anyway hope you enjoy the season
