Notice the respect Rudolf has for all the guitarists he mentions. None of this childish rivalry. Just mutual respect. Gotta love it.
And the bon Jovi guy 😂
Schenker never bought into the rivalry to begin with, he primarily focused on being the best *composer* he could be.
It's safe to say he succeeded in that.
I remember when I first started learning to play in the late 70s. I knew a lot of guys at various levels if skill from beginner to fairly competent shredder/tapper. It seemed all the guys that were good enough to dazzle people at parties walked around with a massive chip on their shoulder like they were a gift from God or something. I hated that nonsense and never adopted that attitude no matter how good I thought I was. If someone came around that couldn't play that well I would try to give them encouragement and if they were receptive to it, sit down with them and show them things I learned to improve. No judgement, no egotistical bullshit.
The shenker brothers are and always will be part of musical history. Very deserving of all honors
🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
They can't be more different. He's cool.... MS is a crazy dick...
I'm not sure I've ever seen an interview with a single member of the Scorpions in which they weren't relentlessly positive and enthusiastic. Never seem them talk shit about anyone or disseminate negative vibes. They have such a great attitude!
Except for the fact that he screwed his own brother over and over...
@@Rockandrollgeerage yeah. Imagine had they stuck together since 1970...
@@Rockandrollgeerage Agreed, His brother is/was the real talent!
@@edgarsifuentes3248 glad they didn't, Michael went on too much better music
@@Rockandrollgeerage MS has an amazing discography I mean to start with Scorpions go to UFO then solo and still make music! Rudolf ofcourse still making music also. Both do rhythm and lead . Very debatable to who did better music, ofcourse Michael is a much better guitarist one of the best in rock/metal history. But I mean the 70s Scorpions beat any other discography. The 80s both did about the same and 90s and 2000s though Michael always did a lot! Between them 2 Michael did better ofcourse no comparison there but the discographies very debatable as Rudolf been there
The scorpions wirh Rudolph and Matthias got me realy into guitar playing. Great Interview with one of my guitar heros. Thanks guys💙🤘🎸
One of my favourite band from the 80s till now. It was the most memorable day and to say a dream come through in my life when they came and performed in our small state Meghalaya the North eastern part of India. It was unbelievable. Was in the front row till the very end of the show and frankly didn't want the show to end. God what an experience, since here it's very rare that such mega show are really organised. It was great. 🤟👍
Scorpions are truly an international band!😊
He the coolest guy, in Rock.
A real rock and roll god. But he's so cool, and laid back.
Just a top dude. And still rocking, like you cannot believe!
I love this man , his music, enthusiasm and sincerity.... thank you for posting!!!
This is great ! I wasn't expecting this to be so good (the brothers aren't talking, etc)
fan for years, UFO, '74, year later at Winterland, then Michael. '84 Keystone PA and '14, Santa Clara.
Scorps, Love Drive then BlackOut, Oakland indoor arena. All Killer, No Filler !
man, found a cassette of me in a little band i was in during the early '80s and heard us cover BlackOut for the first time in years.
We (and me ) nailed it.
Guitar, '76 IBZ RR Sr, sorta like the one here.
Thanks, Rudolph !
as a german myself i appreciate the huge amount of Denglish in this interview! ;)
keep it up guys, this channel is getting greater with every video
The flying Wii. I just love how the Germans turn the V into W to "avoid sounding German". Sehr süß!
With all due respect, for someone who has to use English for their job, one could expect a more proficient level of English. I mean, c’mon it’s Les Paul, pronounced Les POL and not Pauul. As they say in Hamburch:I speak English weri wäl , aba bloß nicht so schnell.
@@MusicAMovies hahaha "les pouwl" made me lol too ;)
It's so embarrassing! This old man more than 50 years in international music business speaks such a bad english. He's not the smartest guy in the world.
@@mick1967 Says the guy who can't even write a sentence in english...
I met Rudy a few years ago before on of their shows. He's a great guy and a blast to chat with. I'd love to see his collection of Gibsons !
It must’ve been awesome to meet the greatest Rock Star of all time
In my book it was Judas Priest,Iron Maiden and The Scorpions, pick those riffs apart and learn rythym guitar, you couldn't go wrong, you were rocking!
Yes, basic ground music for playing memorable guitar riffs.
Scorpions and Priest for the late 70s! Then Iron Maiden joined and those 3 been on top💯👍🏼
Seeing all 3 of them at a festival in a month. Listened too them since i was 15 (half my life pretty much) so stoked

legend guitarrist!!
One of most iconic and influential artists in Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal hands down!
.....Big Brother doing a great interview !!! .... rocknroll !!!
Love Rudolph's philosophy here, manifestation of self via meditation.
If he's for real, he'd seek out his brother and make amends.
@@cammontreuil7509 👍 just listened to an interview with Michael ,he had some bad things to say about Rudolph and he came off brutally honest.
@@cammontreuil7509 Oh yeah, I agree that not giving Michael his credit and possibly monies that are due is a very dirty deed, and he should make that right.
I do still think it's worthwhile to take note of his mental approach that made him successful.
The above topics are two very different things.
@@jfo3000 are both of these men been awakened to self ?
For them to finally make amends would prove it.
Because Scorpions and UFO are and have been my favorite bands, I've been interested in them since their beginnings.
I also play heavy metal guitar since 1976.
Even though my favorite guitarist is Michael, I play more like Rudolph.
Notice the rythem of "Can't Explain ".
It's signature "Schenker ". So is " Rock You Like a Hurricane ".
Love Drive album is classic. When the album came out learned to play all those songs.
Before the net, we only had bits and pieces of what was going on in those two mens worlds. I would have to go back and see how accurate those Creem magazine articles were, compared to what they now say in interviews.
Michael has been more open than Rudolph. Rudolph finally at the stage of moving past fame, money and glory, seeking that next plateau of self awareness.
Michael was on that road for a long time. Finding himself. Coming out of a shell.
It rings in his music and he's even toned down his distortion a bit.
I can see with faith Michael and his brother finally making peace with each other if Rudolph is genuine. We know Michael is, hope he can move to forgiveness and past any resentment when his older brother asks for it.
65 . . Hes been in the band longer than ive been alive im 55 . That is unbelievable !
Rudolph nailed it, BE YOURSELF on the guitar! I never understood these people that buy all the gear of their favorite player, but never really sound like them. I started playing so I could write my own songs. I learned other people's songs only to learn how to construct a song of my own. I'm glad I don't sound like anyone but ME! 🎶
i agree 100% michael schenker didnt become michael schenker cause he wanted to sound like his idol, same with eddie, kirk etc.... BUT the part i am guilty of is the last guitar i bought it was the Dave mustaine Alien tech green Kramer Vanguard, love the colour, neck profile. ebony fretboard etc and the pickups are pretty much modded JBs that roar, in a way my regular JB does not... BUT i dont want to sound like dave when i make my own music, i do take little pieces of my favourite bands and put it into my style.
@@sleevelessace - Yeah influences are one thing, but out and out copying Idk. I'd rather sound like me.
yeah man! i think most musicians see that to but some think that "if i sound like this guy i will get the fame and love of this guy", which is the furthest from the truth cause people will just view them as a rip off of ____, like you said its good to take influences but music style is like cooking take a bit of this and a but of that and make your own recipe@@davidpaul6656
What a great interview. Thanks guys and cheers from a German amateur rocker who lives in Buenos Aires.Learnt a lot today
Love this band and the Schenkers Michael & Rudolph
Nice to hear about Johnny Winter. Rudolph rocks. Classy dude.
This is such a great interview and Rudolf is such a blessing! 🤘🏻
I figured that I am a ROCK BELIEVER over 22 years now!
Hellyeah! Thank you so much ❤
This guy was born 1948, he was playing in Scorpions in the 60ies. Im soon 40 years old and these guys had already been playing in scorpions for 20 year before I even was born.
The icon of the Flying V is the Blonde bomber.Black and white is Michaels signature guitar.
100%
Enjoyed this interview is very interesting
The sountttt!!! Gotta love Rudolf. One of the greatest riff-makers ever!!!
He stole every riff from his younger brother.

@@haywoodyoudome but even after mike left the scorps, rudolf still put out badass riffs

Rudolf Schenker is the definition of a legit rhythm guitarist. Knows how to make great but simple and effective riffs so that a good lead guitarist can make great solos to go along with.
Cooles Video! Unfassbar, dass Rudolf dieses Jahr schon 74 wird..Geile Lederjacke by the way..😎
Much respect for such a great player.Great interview. Nice to see this man not bashing anyone as well.
pure enthusiasm and positive attitude , great. The best part is „here, you go like this, knack…..“. Rudolf, you are a legend.
Awesome interview!
Rudolph leaned over and gave me a picture during a concert in Jacksonville in 1979. An unforgettable moment. At that concert I saw a young Def Leppard, the Scorpions and Ted Nugent for ten bucks right next to the stage. And people today pay $800 bucks for nosebleed seats to see Taylor Swift. I'm a lucky man to have those memories.
Great interview, lots of deep and important advices. Thanks
Great interview, thanks!
First saw him about 1975 at a college gig in England. They did it the classic way. Album/tour/album/tour building the support. Schenker always consistent with that power rhythm but the pair of them are like the Young brothers or Iron Maiden. You know instantly who they are.
That’s amazing you saw the best Scorpion in their prime! In trance tour!?
For me it was that line up of world wide live. Jabs and Schenker just awesome and I like that Blackout/Hurricane period.
Super enjoyable? Thank you guys! Greetings from Estland. Thomas, you are super good, keep rocking. Thanks for music shop too!
Simply amazing
'When the girls were talking and forgot about winding' 🤣🤣🤣
I get your feeling with the Flying V Rudolph. When I first saw you guys on the blackout tour II saw Matthias with his Explorer and thought that’s the guitar for me. I’ve been playing Explores ever since. Thank you Matthias thank you Scorpions. 🤘🤘
a living legend!
ty so much for this !!!
Superb Interview Legend Guitarist /Musician and super kool guy
I love when two guys talk GAS! ^^
Great interview, you can feel the passion for music and Thomas is nervous, you can see this anxiety! Thanks for sharing Thomas!
weird to look at as a german to look at two germans talk in english with this accent! but all in all great interview
I love Rudy. He is positive and nice. HE writes amazing songs. I love Micheal as well he is a bad ass guitarist but loves the dirty linen. Celebrate the music!
Great interview with a hard rock/metal legend, it's always a bummer to hear that the Schenker brothers do not get along and are estranged etc...
One of the Greats!!!
Good interview. Again what learned.
outstanding content
Great guy and very cool❤
When a person has self discipline like Rudy, they stay in great shape, hate musicians who turn fat as they age that shows they don't care about themselves! Rudy at 72 or 73 looks amazing!
Rudolph Skhenker n Mathias Jab are both best guitars playing together😊
They do sound great!
You are so special Rudolf
I love this man, amazing musician
Such a cool guy
Der Hammer Thomas !
Bring ihn bitte mal mit wenn du wieder kommst! Einer meiner Helden.
Awesome job 😎🎸👍 did Rudolph write humanity?
Danke. Das ist kool
I just love the way you fit that pentatonic major and minor scale into your playing, well done!
I believe i spider. Rudi & Thomas 👍
... there is nothing like a V 🤘🏻❤️
one of the Flying v Icons and one of my flying v guitar hero
I met him & have a picture. He is so cool & very nice to his fans. He Is A Flying V Metal God 👍✅❤️
Yes!
Rudy also has the number 1 Voodoo V from Gibson in 2003, I can proudly say I own one as well. V’s are great to sit with like Rudy explained at the end.
No, they're not great to play while sitting down; in fact, they actually suck while sitting because the 'V' arms don't let it happen. 😮
Saw the Scorpians in 1983 or 82 or 84 roughly. Iron maiden opened for them on the number of the heast your. Excellent concert. Love Rudolf and Mattias. Way under rated as musicians ...
Rudolf ist der wundebar guitarists! Ich lernen Duetche. 😂
I don't think they are underrated. They are well-known in the metal world
@@dieseldust27 True, but as guitarists I meant. I don't think they get enough love.
Rudy, what a generous big brother you are. Also, Nancy Wilson rings? I would have been reaaaalll disappointed if Nancy called me back then just to talk about a guitar..
What a nice interviewer.
KK DOWNING, Rudolf and Michael, they bring it to Heavy Rock and Metal. Winter or Wishbone Ash had it before, but not in "our" music.
Anyone here has seen the Michael Schenker interview?? Michael and Rudolf are not the best friends right now.
Because i like this part because is so important for every one to have a breather and a sister
Wow, my two favorite german musicians talking about guitars in english :)
Which Flying V was played at the beginning of the video. And is it a Flying V that can be purchased?
Thank you for your reply.
It is his private one-off V - not for sale at the moment... SORRY!
I'd have preferred an interview between Thomas and Michael Schenker... the REAL talent in the Schenker family.
No. Michael would spend half the interview bitching about his brother. I'd much rather have the interview be about music.
I wish Rudolph and Michael could play together again ..Both are troopers of the Flying V ...
My favourite song is Wind of change
I looked for and English version of Rock Your Life, but with no luck, I remember reading in an article that there was supposed to be on the works! Does anyone know about this or where to find it?
I wish!
Great guitarplayers chatting
Yes, too bad Wolf Hoffman from Accept isn't in this interview, Two great German rock guitarist together.
They should interview Michael and Rudy in the same room.
Will not happen.
Rudolf discredited Michael on the Scorpions album Lovedrive which launched them in the US
@paulfitzpatrick6566 Rudolph didn't discredit anything,Lovedrive is his album, and his little brother only played solo in a few songs, and now he's appropriating all the glory to himself, although he didn't do anything outstanding there!!! Schenker Jr. is not at all modest, and he has absolutely no conscience,so he constantly spews envy and jealousy towards Rudolph, and even Matthias, although he is not worth their little finger,as a lead guitarist or as a composer!!! Michael Schenker is a jerk!!!!
What a great interview. Being a Bluguitar Amp1 player I’m obviously a fan on Thomas, and I’m a big Scorpions/Rudolph Schenker (and Michael) fan. So this was just awesome. Btw great representation of Germany in music also 👍
Michael not real fond of his brother from a recent interview I heard, seems he was taken advantage of at least according to Michael and he comes off pretty honest. I believe it was the Flying v channel.
@@frankd.506 it’s in quite a few interviews I’ve seen tbh. Every opportunity he gets tbh I think he speaks badly of his brother and the Scorpions. At the end of the day he chose to leave them (for UFO) and pursue his own career. Maybe he’s a little bitter they got so huge and he didn’t?
@@thelolguy007 Well I wish them both the best and hope they can heal but I didn't even know of the Scorpions until I heard Love Drive and it was the same thing that brought me to UFO ,Michael's guitar ,until this day I would prefer Michael's MSG or his other projects over any Scorpions and I like the Scorps but I am huge Michael fan, maybe record sales states otherwise but I believe MS is successful in his own right ,again I love UFO but who were they without Michael, disclaimer = I'm an old guitar player from Chicago and we loved anything M.S.theres a reason UFO recorded here ,They both have my respect and both are far better than me.✌
@@thelolguy007 Also often left out of the V interviews Albert King played i believe was a 59 V maybe the only old blues guy to do so .

Tolle Sache - deutscher Gitarrist, deutscher Interviewer - aber auf englisch? Das ganze nochmal auf deutsch oder Untertitel?
...no one ist speaking about the great Firma Klotz who made se Kabel für die guitars! Grüße vom Roland!
Albert King was King of the Flying V, & Dave Davies played a Flying V in early Kinks days.
Man .... thanks to mention Albert .. plus I suppose "the girls" did not dare to even whisper . winding his ;)
Those are the players who got me involved; watching the Kinks on the TV shows, Shindig and Hullabaloo, and a bit later on, Albert King.
I bought my 'V' from Hollywood Music, Hollywood, Fl. in 1969, after walking in to buy a reverse Firebird, but walking out with a delicious Flying 'V'¡☆! 😮
👍👍
Love their heavy German inflection speaking in English !
Rush, Priest, Maiden, Scorpions... yeah, that's why I started playing
And UFO with Schenker
What amp was he playing in the intro ?
im the same way with the explorer. it just feels like home.
This man is the scorpions
Cool interview,Rudy and Malcolm Young are two iconic rhythms guitarist in my opinion,Hey Rudy mend your differences with your brother Michael and make some music!

Like the philosophy , create your own style . Inspiration from Jimi Hendrix , Scorpions plus many more greats .
Funny how almost exactly his story sounds like Michael's and Mathias. Rufolf is 7 years older than Michael, and he did pick up the flying V first, but didn't know how to play. According to Michael, from a similar interview 6 years ago, it was him who taught his brother how to play. They even started their first band together, and Michael, Being the youngest one, was ripped off monetarily and songwriting, so he left the band but not before finding Klause and Uli.
Michael mentioned Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter, and other guys who inspired him. Mathias did an interview also, and his and Rudy's story sound exactly alike.
I believe it was Michael's passion and true dedication that created and continued to inspire the Scorpions sound.
First time I enjoyed and paid attention to the German accent. Haha.
good to hear no shit from him about his brother, and unbelievable that both never again came together in a band for a longer time. maybe to stay apart was the best at least.....i am surprised Rudolf speaks not so fluid english as it should be after all this long years being in the music business
Man merkt das Rudolf und Michael Schenker Brüder sind. Sie haben beide die gleiche Slengh in Englisch. Thats funny. Rudolf is a very good Rythm Guitar Player similar to Melcom Young.
