I’ve seen many finals with our national team.
Some that we won (1982 - 2006 - 2021), some that we lost (1970 - 1994 - 2000 - 2012).
Our supporters never approach the finals in this hype way. Even when we were absolutely confident to win, we never celebrate before the match is ended.
And we all now that everything could change in a blink during a match.
Probably this is why England never win…

Penalties aren’t lottery. It’s nerve and England didn’t have as much as italy. Only England say penalties are lottery...
...but everybody in Italy say it, too! And I think it myself: penalties are a nerve thing for sure but despite experience, class and a goalkeeper like Monster Donnarumma it's a lottery anyway. Trust me, I've seen that many time in 39 years. Then, after the shootouts you can talk about things like what player played well or if the winner deserved it or not.

England got to the final because they have a terrific squad, which under a competent manager would almost certainly win titles. All across England's games, I never saw any tactical brilliance from Southgate.
