    Ymgwie is my age, and when he speaks about things from the 70s, etc, it makes sense to me.
    Like everything in life we have to choose what we are going to do, and commit to it. People like Yngwei have an obsession with being the best, and that's why they become the best and bring value to our lives. They are rare, and that's why we love them. Yngwei included!

    Saw Yngwie on 12/4/21 at The Apollo in Belvidere, IL, what a show. Let me tell you, I was not prepared to be blown away. If you think he ever "left", I am here to tell you the dude is back in a big way. Lean, mean and humble with ridiculous chops, the Swede is here to remind you what made him famous. Two weeks later, I am asking myself how this is possible at 58 yoa...he looks 35. Do not miss his show-it is a must see.
    By the way, an intelligent interview with great chemistry. Easily one of the best I have seen in years with Yngwie. Thanks!!

      I think he's still narcissistic and somewhat arrogant, he's just learned how to hide it better and keep it in check. He's still a great guitarist though.

    • @leoseanster
      @leoseanster Pƙed 3 lety +6

      Well yes, he single handedly created a highly influential genre of guitar playing, has sold millions of records during his lifetime, sold out stadiums in his 20s, and was arguably the most revered/feared guitarist during his prime. Hell, if I was a teenager and had that magical bona-fide rockstar combination, I'm sure it would have messed with my head a little bit, no less because the rockstar environment during the time leaned towards the excess anyway (just look at any 70s and 80s rockumentary). Even Steve Vai said somewhere that he was also young and arrogant to an extent at the time.
      He certainly looks like he's mellowed down a lot. No doubt deep inside he's a nice guy, and it really is nice to see him bring that out nowadays.

You’re obviously a big fan and found the perfect balance here. Loved your reference to the Inspiration album. Brilliant LP but one of the appeals to this is the amazing vocal contributions from the guests. AND his dad was 007 material, WHO got him some gigs behind the iron curtain. He seems down to earth. When you can peel off casual Paganini style runs and chat, that's not natural..

    Always great to hear Yngwie talk about his playing & music....Instant composition is an interesting way to describe his soloing. As for the less is more/ more is more debate whenever I hear the movie AMADEUS (1984) with Mozart when I hear that clown say...'Too many notes Mozart,,,just lose a few' I always laugh thinking of these people who try to criticize Yngwie ....What they don't understand is that Yngwie's speed is part of his EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION thru his instrument .....Restrict that with someone prescribing how many notes to play & you'd be restricting his emotional expressiveness....Very Good question asking him about hearing himself on tape for the first time.....What Yngwie describes is exactly what I felt when hearing myself back on tape ....Same urge to make it sound better all the time....I remember hearing that when he was young Yngwie used to work in a guitar workshop actually carving scalloped fingerboards....He was very much into modifying his instrument like ED (EVH) was.....When he was a kid before he carved out his own path as a player his natural ear was so good that on MADE IN JAPAN album he could take Blackmore's guitar off the right channel of the vinyl stereo player & Reproduce note for note EXACTLY what was originally played on there so his mates couldn't tell the difference. He would say...Actually, its ME not Ritchie , & they'd go 'Dont believe you, you're nuts' ! ..lol...But it WAS Yngwie......Though great at what he does I don't think Ritchie could reproduce some of the technical stuff Yngwie does though...omg...lol

    I recall a soviet sub parlaying through ytre arne Norway as the air raid sirens went off as a kid living there . little did I know , yngwie was doing his thing as a kid next door in sweden.

    YNGWIE wow! G3- Satriani,Vai,... then that moment happens when you hear Malmsteens guitar...WOW!!! I like the way Zakk said it , "the best of the best were all benching 4-500lbs. and YNGWIE came in benching 1200 lbs. yeah... It's a great time to be alive! TKS YJM

    I love Yngwie's music since i first heard it back in '85... and that was the first time i ever heard Alcatrazz No parole..., Rising Force 1st album and even Steeler...so it was all at once and then Marching Out and Trilogy the year after etc. With that said, i've known his albums one after another, some i like them more and some i like them slightly less. Him singing all the songs is something i still don't understand when you have so many great singers in your past and available but that's him, that's the way he likes it now, and that's how it will be in the future i guess. Anyway good interview.

    Question to Gi that I've been wondering about. At what stage did Yngwie start routinely using economy picking (beyond the obvious use within sweeps)? I'm not sure on his earliest stuff he was doing it, but he certainly was by a certain point, any ideas at what point? Or was he in fact doing it from the start (in terms of his recorded output)?

    I so wish Yngwie went back into proper production. Parabellum is not bad, but honestly, it would be a masterpiece if it had the vocals and production of let's say Magnum Opus or Seventh Son.
