5 REASONS INTO THE DARK IS SO GOOD - Kill Team Gallowdark Warhammer 40k Space Hulk - Hry
Why do you think Into the Dark is so good?
Do you remember playing Space Crusade on the Commodore Amiga 500?
Played the board game Hero Quest in the 90s. But it was many years later that i found out that these were games from GW
Having played both into the dark and normal kill team, i feel with the rules for line of sight its designed for a 2d map with 3d rules thrown ontop, whereas into the dark feels like it should be
I always kinda liked how Arena played but the doors were always a bit wonky. The walls with proper hatches are such an improvement.
That's a great observation, makes a lot of sense top down. They must have designed it that way in their mind then applied it to the 3D terrain later.
I bought my first issue of White Dwarf (114) in June 1989 and Space Hulk pretty soon afterwards, for a princely £20. I think it's still in the loft at my parents, I wonder how much of it is still intact. I've been looking at getting Into The Dark to recreate that experience.
WD114 had rules for "Pit Fall" which was a 2-level map layout for Space Hulk where you could drop down and climb up, I wonder if you could do that with this Kill Team set.
I'm getting this just so I can make a modern version of Space Hulk
I had space hulk and space crusade. Great games but my game was heroquest. I wish there was a similar heroquest game where I could use space marines and orcs, that would be a good game
It would be good fun to take the HeroQuest rules and home brew that
Having my first game with it tomorrow! I'll definitely be buying the second box tomorrow.
Hey nice one, have fun!
My biggest memory from back then is the space hulk PC game. It was possible to get stuck in a hallway with lightning claws and a never-ending stream of genestealers and have no way to get out of it.
Good times!
I already thought about that too, to use the "Into the Dark" terrain to replicate the Space Crusade (in German it was Star Quest) board and play a round of Kill Team in this setting. That would be a cool game session for sure. Maybe using the old models from the board game too? Even if the quality was not that super crisp as the models are today. But back then they were more or less the same quality then the WH40K ones. Even a bit better because the marines already had MK VII armour and the WH40K ones had still MK VI armour.
How cool would it be to have the sound effects from the computer game too!? Using the old models from the board game would be fantastic.
@@tabletopskirmishgames since I have seen Star Wars I had the dream of how cool it would be to have a gaming table where the terrain and the armies are holograms. The troops are constantly shooting and fighting. Only after your actions results are showing, like defeating the enemy in melee or the units are moving etc. A little bit this dream came true with the Dawn of War PC game. Maybe there will be a time this dream comes true, on the other hand I enjoy painting and kitbashing too much to only go for holograms.
I think we might be the same age😂.. I had and still have my Amiga back and had space crusade, good times. Space hulk was my first GW game after Heroquest and still to this day is my favourite. I just loved the lore and feel of the game.Back in the those days I remember thinking how special terminators were. I still have my copy too though a bit battered. I might have to check this into the dark. That sounds epic what your talking about got me thinking using it with my old space hulk.. something just is missing the space hulk doors they had so much character 😁
We played space crusade morning, noon and night in the 90’s - all expansions and making our own rules for likes of tyranids and librarians. If you’re working on a compatible game with the 2 gallowdark games then count me in for play testing etc…. Great work 👍🏻😎🍷
Good times! Nice one 👊
Damn... Black Michael Jackson was in Space Crusade???
I never played Space Crusade, but I got and played the first Space Hulk. I finished my Blood Angel Intercessor kill team, and I am almost done with my Ultramarine Intercessor kill team. I want to use blip counters and make a great space Hulk layout.
Sounds awesome!
Finished the Kroot today. Playing this weekend and taking a break until next week when I take the terrain from Shadow Vault and convert it to Nurgle with (I guess) 3 packs of Green Stuff. If they don't give it to us we'll make it ourselves
That sounds awesome, would love to see some pics when you've finished.
@@tabletopskirmishgames I have to admit that I'm a PC technically caveman who still looks amazed when he uploads a photo to Dicord.
But luckily one of my brothers is a genius will ask him about the photos when the time comes ^^
Nice one 👊
Ths is what I think I saw you play briefly wednesday.
So its a different thing to the kill team skirmish jobby? Different box, different rules etc?
It looked very interesting and maybe a good starting point for me as an entry.
Yep the same one. This Into the Dark set has everything you need to start playing the game. The full rule book, tokens, gauges, terrain, models etc. I'd say go for Into the Dark over the 'Starter Set' but both are good to get started.
Ive started kt with into the dark, im more into kt now then into 40k. I thinking of picking up a veteran guard team to play. Sadly i dont have enough friends to play as often as id like
Having a local group is great if you can find one. Any in your area?
I remember that computer game and I played quite some but i got annoyed over that I kept loosing all the time
If I remember rightly, the way it scored to hit was pretty unreliable 🤣
Blood Angel terminators! To be honest I’m going to buy a Gamemat from deepcut studio, and have a 40K board narrative style
Nice! I haven't seen those mats yet, will take a look. Thanks for the recommend 👊
@@tabletopskirmishgames they do a ´space hulk map which looks nice. They have a great selection.
Maybe do a mixed chapter killteam with the Fists, Angles, and Ultras.
Ooh I like where you’re coming from!
It’s a scale concept for me. Regular Kill Team has a totally different feel than ITD. I’m not sure that one is better than the other, but it’s a measure of how good the game is, that with just one basic rule set, you almost get two completely different games.
I'm looking forward to revisiting all the other terrain and working through the missions from the previous books now. A fun year of Kill Team ahead for sure!
I've got some 1st born ultramarine scouts & veterans I don't want (vehicles too, all unpainted) you could have as I prefer to build primaris troops & vehicles...👍🏻
5 the Terrain is rad
4 the terrain is rad
3 the terrain is rad
2 the terrain is rad
1 the terrain is rad
I did mess up some of it and end up slicing my hand but that's why you don't let idiots with bad eyesight and tremors assemble miniatures and handle knives.
🤣
how can customers get 20% off warhammer stuff at this online store when GW fixes prices for all retailers????
We are lucky here in the UK with discounts.
Thanks a lot! 😠
I had just about decided to give this box a pass, and buy the new teams separately. This was down to the duplicate terrain. I wasn't interested in playing double size Kill Team or Boarding Actions 40K! But now you've put the idea of denser terrain on a single size Kill Team board. 🤔
Argh! Maybe I'll go ahead with my pre-order after all. 🤦♂️
Haha sorry🤪
Do you think people who do not like the 2 teams included in this set will miss out if they wait and buy the new set with guard and necrons? I really want to get into the dark but the 2 teams don't interest me, I hope the rules and missions are similar or just as good in the next box.
If you can get a copy of the Into the Dark rule book for the new Gallowdark rules (or watch my rules videos for them) then I think you could easily wait and get the new set with Guard and Necrons. You can probably find the extra missions online too 👊
Update: I just watched a review by GMG that showed the new Shadowvaults book. You will actually get the Gallowdark rules including Close Quarters etc in the new set too which is pretty cool!
So what about the quality of the terrain? I heard some people complaining they can't make the parts fit, that it's hard to assemble/disassemble. I'm planning to buy the next set with the same terrain but I'm kinda hesitant.
I made a video showing how to prepare it before painting. A couple of hours is all you need to get it ready and then it makes assembling it super easy. I've been having a great time with this set but definitely spend those couple hours to get the most out of it.
@@tabletopskirmishgames Thanks :)
So good you want the same terrain twice though…?
If I didn't play 40k as well then I would probably wait for the Kasrkin to come out separately and get their rules online. I also want to replicate Space Crusade so need a load more terrain, maybe even three sets 🤣
The regular Kill Team does not interest me but close corridor action somehow does. Love it visually foremost.
It is definitely a different vibe to the previous season.
that game need a phone port!
Lee you squeaky wonder. I love you. You dynamo of positivity.
Also do you remember the bloke on the opening splash screen clearly based on Al Paccino from scare-face suddenly yelling on the Space Crusade splash screen?
🤣
I don't remember that, will go and see if I can find it on CZcams!
@@tabletopskirmishgames You can find in for searching the space crusade intro music on CZcams. The random yell used to scare the dickens out of me. Ive conflated two memories here, as the graphics were definitely not up to scratch. Its the Space Marine & Space crusade board game BOX artwork specifically if you search in google or something. Space crusade has been flipped and is a little less Pacino-y but its there.
nice marketing
