The production values are off the charts, unlike anything I've ever heard on any of the songs they choose to cover. The subtle elements that are back in the mix in the originals are brought so far forward it creates a ridiculous wall of sound effect that completely overwhelmes you as a listener and it seriously becomes almost a religious experience for those who heard these songs when they were first released. These people leave me speechless after every song. I just sit there in amazement at their accomplishment.
This song and another song by Lighthouse, "Pretty Lady," were awesome!
1971 and this was rock and roll. This is great. I love it !
i have been around a lot of world class musicians in my 56 years as a horn player but there guys? These guys! They blow me away every single time! :-)
Horn player ... blew me away. I see what you did there.
@@osimnod That was very inappropriate and not appreciated. Don't comment any further whoever you are.
@naknaksdadn572 I appropriate? Anybody with a sense of humor or who didn't take themselves too seriously would get the clever use of that phrase, as you used it. Get over yourself.
One of my favorite songs from the 70’s you don’t often hear 😎
Seems like every cover they touch, they make it better in the most immersive way.
The whole band is great for sure but the drummer always amazes me. WOW!
Yeah he and Leonid are the backbone of the band. Not only Leonid's amazing from scratch arrangements but his great bass playing.
IGOR IS the BEST Drummer in the world today! Period. End of Story!
@@theweyI love Igor and he is a great drummer - but I'm not quite ready to give him the title. You still have Mike Portnoy, Steve Gadd, Danny Carey, Aaron Mellegard, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, John Freese, Gavin Harrison, I truly don't believe there is a single "greatest" drummer today - there are a top tier that play different styles and have different approaches. It's also hard to compare jazz and rock drummer (although 99 percent of the list of greatest drummers (and guitarists for that matter) only focus on rock drummers from iconic bands. Still Igor is at the top, I will say that.
Thanks, Jeff. Another great song from my youth. I lived in Toronto and saw Lighthouse many times.♥
Lighthouse absolutely used strings for its songs. In fact when Skip Prokop was creating Lighthouse, his thought was to combine a Jazz horn-quartet, string quartet and a rock rhythm section into one band. Btw, Howard Shore (the Oscar winning film composer (the LOTR movie scores) and original SNL music director) was the alto sax player in Lighthouse.
One if my favorite tracks from the seventies. I was really into the big sound of the horn- based ensembles like Lighthouse, Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears. Jeff, your analysis of this cover was spot on; and I'm glad you honed in on the piano solo; that was always a highlight for me. Love the way this song builds to a frenzied finish. And what more can be said about Leonid & Friends; their cover efforts are just exquisite.!
Don't you love the faces of the strings as they play with them? 😊Last April, after picking them up at the Miami airport for the beginning of that tour, I got to see their first time playing that song in a concert in Key West. The audience went crazy when they finished!
One of the best covers I've heard in a very long time.
UNFREAKIN BELIEVABLE! I Love Leonid and Friends! Thanks Jeff for featuring L&F on this tune. WooHoo!
Thanks Jeff - Great tribute to Skip Prokop from Hamilton Ontario. And No that guitar solo was extended masterfully by about 15-20 bars. The syncing from the guitar solo to the band entrance at 5;20 Start here@5:15 is so bang on. And yes the fidelity is so good. love it.
I am astonished by the superb musicianship of Leonid and Friends - they are like a Russian version of The Wrecking Crew (Los Angeles studio musicians who played on countless 1960's pop hits)
With a world-class rhythm section like this, the results can only be stellar, they are the heartbeat of this well-oiled and talented machine.
Yes, strings were part of the original. In fact, what made Lighthouse really unique was that they had both a cellist and violist (no, not a violinist) in the group.
So much energy listening to this.. my house lights are flickering!!! ... whew!!!
It's like everything else Leonid chooses to revive, it's amazing!!! Thanks Jeff another great reaction.
All of their covers are top notch!!
The arrangement by Keith Jolimore (one of the sax players in the original band) was very powerful, but L&F multiply its power. Have you noticed that L&F always adjusts the brass section to the tracks that the original musicians dubbed? On this track, two trumpets (Pantaluk doubled) and baritone sax: Howard Shore (yes, the composer of "The Lord of the Rings" soundtrack) played tenor and baritone in the original recordings. All L&F covers have an amazing level of detail and depth. And what to say about Igor? Wow
For a long time, I saw the videos by Leonid & Friends and passed on viewing them. 🙃 Didn't know what I was missing. 🥴Also love your reactions, Jeff... 😮😄🥸😂🤩as I have since there was only a low 4 digit number of us visiting you as subscribers. 🤥(There was something around 1600 when I signed on but probably a lot more just visiting.) 😎
Still only 30.5 K, but I'm betting that ramps up a lot in the future.
I totally remember you from those early days! Thanks for sticking around!
Thanks in a badmood today until this video they just make you smile
Awww yea! 😃👏👏👏
You mentioned it a little, but I think one of the things most overlooked about this group is how tight and rock solid a rhythm section Igor and Leonid make. They are just in the pocket every single time!
Saw Lighthouse live many times. The piano solo was spot on...the guitar solo expanded on Ralph Cole's original...and this guitarist is very gifted. AND there were always strings in Lighthouse...and playing trumpet in the original band was Howard Shore, who went on to compose the scores for The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies.
Jesus Christ that was insane! Never cease to amaze me and blow me away every time!
This song is so much fun not only to watch, but to close your eyes crank the volume and just feel it! Another master class from L&F, looking forward to the next one Jeff!
I knew you would like it! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
😃👏👏👏🫶
How can you not? Lol!! Impossible!!!
WOW!!!
Just a great shut out to the drummer always on point with his kit
Igor is an absolute beast on the kit, and he's so low-key, even a bit 8:24 nonchalant, never breaks a sweat, but he's got so much groove, feel, and technical ability. The ultimate pocket player.
Unbelievable energy!!!!
I remember this song! It's fantastic! The guys do a great job with it! Wow!
It’s even better Live😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great reviews but You're forgetting Igor on drums! He sells it all! Go back & have a close listen.
Awesome shares & enthusiasm! So happy You choose to Review L&F! Good vibrations along Your way!
You need to watch more of my videos where I talk about him every single time 😂
@@StrateleStudios Fair enough & I stand corrected! Just started watching & needed to catch up! Much appreciation for Your commentary & wonderful positive vibe! Subbed!
Vasily's vocals on this are so good.
There were indeed strings on the original
There was defo strings in the original. Well done Leonid!
What a voice the lead singer has! Some people when you listen to the quality of their voices make you think - "HOW does he do that?" lol
I hope that between their CZcams channel and their tours they are all getting paid a LOT of money because they certainly deserve it. "That as so cool!"
You stole the words right out of my mouth!
Question 67 and 68 by Chicago is a must!!
Coming soon!
Thanks for your great ear and keen analysis. I now play Leonid & Friends several times a day. They're a real pick-me-upper! Send them to my friends as well. Love your channel.

Lighthouse was a great Canadian band, with 11 members..lol. The "strings" in this song were done with a mellotron. The guitar solo done by Konstantin was the original solo, with very slight embellishments.
Here is the original version of the song: czcams.com/video/iDQNhA5X3Bk/video.htmlsi=7chygntD2kjuhP3H
when the cover version is better than the original
Was going to request this but knew someone had to have it suggested already. Great cover and analysis
😃🎉👏🫶
Thanks!
Definitely the best band out there! 👍🏻
Amazing
Jeff, you're smitten with L&F, like all of us. This makes you officially a "Lenhead"
😄🫶
LOve L&F...love the pianist, the drummer, the horns, and the string section..just awesome!!
L&F also; to my surprise, was totally able to capture the ambiance of "I've Been Searching So Long". The slow build was spot on.
They were fantastic with wishing you were here❤ it’s on Leonid and friends Yt! I actually got tears in my eyes as I listened sooo beautiful 🎉🎉🎉
You just can't find a finer "Tribute/Cover Band" IMO. If you know one better let us know, I'll wait......HSCC comes close.
If you are looking for matching originals, also check out Lexington Lab Band on CZcams. HSCC plays covers, but puts a lot of their of their own interpretations in them.
Lexington Lab has improved over the last few years but are not on the Level of L.F. and HSCC. also Rumor's of Fleetwood Mac. Just My Opinion. I listen to mostly "CoverBands" @@brentgindelberger8851
The guitar solo isn't an exact copy of Ralph Cole's original, but very good .
Ksenia, is no doubt the most CLASSY MASCOT in the music industry!!!
How can you not be familiar with that song
Hmmm weird I didn’t think I said that but ok
May very well be the greatest COVER BAND IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
have you stopped doing ren, i like your reactions, he has a new lyric video and a brand new mash up song.
I guess it’s pretty obvious that the Leonid & Friends fans have landed here too. There’s a whole bunch of us that have suddenly discovered Jeff. Thanks for sharing. 🥰
The only “negative” you can say about this bad is you can hear their accent when they sing. Can’t fault anything about them musically. Everything they cover Leonid always picks out is a classic.
I don't think it was strings in the original but synthesizer ,but very low
How could you POSSIBLY not mention the drummer?!!!!!!!
I DON’T KNOW!!!
GO see LEONID & FRIENDS LIVE! They are AWESOME! I'm going to the Charlotte LIVE performance. My second time seeing them LIVE! Love L&F!
I will for sure! 👏👏👏
