Scared Donkey Learns The Importance Of Trust

  • Sangria, one of our recent arrivals, is very afraid of humans. Despite our efforts to show her we are just trying to help, she still does not trust anyone. We asked David’s Cazzola from Splendor Hooves to help us out. His training technique was incredible! He was patient with Sangria who was terrified the whole time! He talked to her, pet her, and showed her that all we tried to do was help her. The intensive lesson and training allowed Davide to trim Sangria’s hooves. How incredible is that? A donkey that otherwise would have never had the chance, arrived at Longhopes. The only place that understood her and gave her the opportunity to express herself fully. This video is lengthy but it truly shows the reality of donkeys when they arrive; scared and not trusting. Slowly, with patience, care, and lots of love, we can accomplish what seems to be the “impossible.” For these animals to believe in us and give us an opportunity to show them they are worthy of love and care.

      That’s what I’m saying, they can hold guns, help with farming, hiking, 500 bucks from the blm when you adopt theirs, donkey milk, Jesus rode on a donkey into Bethlehem! Not easier per se to handle but they are smaller, and they do have a lot of stamina, you live in a rural area they are v8s

    Good job training her! The only thing I would change is that when you were halter training her, sometimes you didn’t give release after she took a step and that makes a big difference! It might make it easier to halter break her if you teach her lateral neck flexion. Also it might make the process faster if you used treats when she did the right thing. I learned from experience, I’m currently training my own donkey, and if I’m consistent, he learns extremely fast. Hope these tips help!

      the fact he did this entirely without treats is quite impressive.

      To the contrary, this is unnecessarily harsh training. Obviously it works, but there are much kinder ways to halter break. I don't think the title is accurate. The donkey didn't learn to trust, just to submit. Look how he jerks the halter right after putting it on around 3:20. This may be a rescue, but they aren't using gentle methods.

    My dog used to lay in the sun on a stool, the birds would come around and hop around and sit on the fence. The day she had to be put down, I put her on the stool in the sun. The birds came and lined up on the fence, they lined the whole fence. They just sat there quietly for a really long time.

    You have two treasures, a marvelous trainer and an astonishingly beautiful jenny! I have adored donkeys since childhood. Brighty of the Grand Canyon was a book that stole my heart and though I read every horse and dog book out there as a kid, Brighty is the only one I found and read again as an adult. They are such wonderful creatures!!! 💖😁

So much of my knowledge from someone that has never trained a donkey...ALL l know is ....when you feed one ....keep your hand flat and don't have any fingers sticking up anywhere ....lol. • @ellafields9424
      @ellafields9424 Před 11 měsíci

      That noise is the huge fan and without it I'll bet that area would be stifling. They will get use to the noise as its constant and not sporadic. The donkey just needs more handling and maybe @ a slower (donkey) pace. He's kinda quick in movements.
