    Regarding the reach numbers of the new Chilcotin:
    Firstly, as Nic mentioned here: 3:05 this is our approach to the new Chilcotin sizing wise. We had a lot of riders who felt this way and the new sizing addresses this.
    Additionally - we HAVE moved the frame size transition height up a bit: so, previously a medium would fit say: 5'6" to 5'10": it's now about 1" (25mm) larger in height. So a new Medium would fit around 5'7" to 5'11". The sizing of all the new 2024 models was shifted this way slightly for a couple of reasons:
    1) The Tyaughton was actually our most progressive bike geometry wise and all of the full suspension bikes felt "tight" compared to riding the Tyaughton. They are all now much better aligned fitment wise.
    2) We needed to create some room in our sizing range for the introduction of the XS frame sizes in our full suspension lineup (i.e. the new Endorphin as well as a new upcoming model). We shifted the sizing slightly to the larger end of the spectrum.
    Please see the sizing chart on the Chilcotin website here: knollybikes.com/products/chilcotin-170 and don't hesitate to contact us or any of our resellers with questions.

    The new Chilcotin looks pretty sweet. Build kits have solid parts with no junk. My only complaint is the mismatched fork/shock brands on a couple of the builds as my OCD cannot handle that. I would parrot what VanCan said, do not be afraid of the longer numbers. The Medium Chilcotin numbers are very close to my Medium Canyon Strive CFR (wheelbase within 1mm, reach on CFR is up to 485, stack is within a few mm, strive is a little slacker, Chilcotin has a slightly shorter seat tube, chainstay is the same as I measured my CFR at 442mm). I am 5'10" and was worried that the long wheelbase and reach might be a hair too long, but I can say I have never felt as right on a bike in terms of confidence and control, so I imagine the Chilcotin would provide a similar experience.

    • @noelbuckley
      @noelbuckley Před 4 měsíci +7

      Don't focus on reach - focus on ETT (Effective Top Tube). This will dictate fit much more than the reach measurement will.
      If you are 5'11", then for sure you should try out both medium and large to see which fits you best. If you're 5'10", you will probably be happiest on a medium. If you are 6'0" tall, almost certainly you'll be happiest on a large. This - of course - assumes that you have "Very average body proportions" meaning relatively normal inseam length relative to your height, etc...

    Almost 4 years ago you did a video on a SC megatower V1 doing the exact same trails. You were testing the Large frame, and if i recall correctly, you were impressed by how much of a big bike it was (at that time). You ended up with the Enduro, which was bigger i think. My point is, that Large SC was smaller than the medium chilcotin gen6, which is fine, and i get it. My question; isn't the true test of those frames going uphill instead of going down? Because with those geo numbers we know 100% it can rip the downs.

      @VanCan  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I had come from bmx. So everything felt big 😂 but I’ve also grown as a rider a lot and now that I feel stronger on a mountain bike i prefer bigger bikes than I used to ride.
      I’d say for an all mountain bike climbing matters more. For a bike like this you’re almost looking for a DH bike that can pedal.

    I'm 6ft (183cm) and judging by reach, stack and effective top tube length, I would very much prefer the size M over the size L. I had bikes with over 500mm of reach and they just felt too long for me, both standing up and sitting down.

I would be curious how it fits with the 509mm reach and only .1 degree steeper seat tube angle. Definitely a try before you buy I think.

    The reach and stack seems very niche, very long and low front end. I normally ride a size L in most bikes at 5'10" and this bike would be bigger than I'd normally ride in a size medium. My current bike actually does follow the trend of high front ends, it's a RM Altitude in size L with 474 reach and 638mm stack in the fully slack position.

    • @mtbman1980
      @mtbman1980 Před 4 měsíci

      unless you have a high end wheelset already then it shouldn't keep you from getting one as most shops/wheelbuilders have no issues getting them. You can also find some good clearance deals on wheelsets as the are less common.

      The spacer kit has been fine on my v5, but redishing and buying a 0 offset ring was annoying. I've had 3 frames and 6 rims I've built on the same hope hub, it's the most expensive piece of a wheel set and there's no reason to replace it. I wish 157 didn't exist.
