    Why thermo cycling multiple times? What's the reason behind?

      With my understanding it just ensures the steel is fully relaxed and ready to be turned to martensite. In the past when I would harden blades that weren't properly thermo cycled they had the tendency to warp. But since I started doing it this way I haven't had that problem.

    Hope you get a new Anvil its going to make more work for you fix the indirect flaws from striking on it.

      That's definitely on the list. I'm not one to shy away from work, but I agree it can be a pain when it's preventable.
