    Very true, in most circumstances. However if one moves internationally first the same employer, it may well hurt you more than help you. Many colleagues and especially managers who chose not to move (or could not move because similar opportunities were not available earlier in their careers) may resent you and belittle the significance of your achievements or importance of you added international exposures, especially these colleagues do not appreciate/enjoy traveling, or even learning languages/cultures.
