- Dogs might be in for quite the scare this Fourth of July as fireworks light the skies. Each year, social media is flooded with videos of dogs freaking out. Some pets even need to be held just to calm down. One retired police dog in Indianapolis went missing because she got spooked by an early Fourth of July fireworks display this year. The ASPCA says more dogs run away in the month of July than any other month. Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Werber has some tips for keeping your dog safe this holiday. #InsideEdition

Don’t leave your dogs outside during fireworks. They should be inside.
My parents don’t allow dogs inside the house. He’s an outside dog. Either way his past owner said he hates going inside houses. Idk what happened when he was younger to him.

I had a black lab who recently passed away at almost 12 years old this last January and he was mega afraid of fireworks. 4th of July was always hard cuz he’d hear one from a distance and start shaking and look so in distress. Poor guy :( but I’m just glad he no longer has to go through that again twice a year (4th of July and New Years) but I still miss him and always will

my dog was fine at the 2 fireworks our city held we attended otherwise would we would have left immediately. she doesn't even flinch at loud thunder and lightning strikes before us even though I'm extremely phobic... and she hasn't lost any hearing.
apparently a thunder vest can help them come down
5 years ago my cat was lost for about 3 months. Luckily she came back to the front door at night on the 4th of July in 2014.

I will explain why they freak out.
Imagine being a dog, you can hear sounds WAY better. And the fireworks starts, imagine the sound × 5 (depends on the dog). And big flashing lights on the sky. Dogs don't know what fireworks is, so they freak out. So keep your dog innside, close the doors and windows in that room and play some musik. Don't comfort your dog, just pretend that everything is normal. If you hug and pet your dog he/she will think "Oh, so i should be scared". Hope this helped
I had a dog run away on the Fourth of July. My parents found her on the way home. Few more months later on New Year’s Eve and she ran away again by chewing her way through the fence in my backyard. My dad felt so guilty that he forgot to bring her in. Especially with the people in my neighborhood popping off illegal fireworks. She ended up getting hit by a car. Saddest news to hear after searching for days and then having to stop because of a planned family vacation. It was so depressing to get that call, since the vacation was supposed to be fun since it was to Disneyland.
I’ve had my dog for almost a year now. Yesterday was her first Fourth of July, we couldn’t leave her at home so we had to take her with us to watch the fireworks. We didn’t want to take her out of the car so we just left her in there with the windows slightly opened. (We did *not* leave here alone we watched the fireworks right next to the car) I thought she would get freaked out by them, but surprisingly she barely even flinched! We were all very surprised😅

My dog use to run and grab the fireworks😂 we had to put her in a room to protect the fireworks from her. (S/N: she never got injuried or burns)
I'm glad my dogs aren't the only one's. I thought it was crazy. Thankfully it wasn't nothing explosive. But I think he thought we were in danger. We keep our dogs inside now when the 4th comes along.

On July 4th I found a pit bull outside my house and this was the first time I ever saw a escaped dog by my house and eventually we found the owner.

This was a real downside to having a dog. I had a Rottweiler and he was so freaked out by fireworks and thunder. He would pull in the leash trying to run home (and was 125 lbs so that's a lot of dog to pull you). I could never get him to settle down.
