This video documents my experience going through an SSI Level 2 Freediving course at Freedive+ in Panglao. It took me 8 days rather than the 3-4 projected days, but luckily I blocked out enough time. I'm doing a 3 month Zero to Hero program where I go from having no formal freediving experience to getting my SSI Level 2 Freediving Instructor certifications.
As I went into my Level 2 course almost immediately after my SSI Level 1 course, my body still needed the time to acclimate to diving at depth. I'm happy that I don't have to rush to get the skills and requirements out of the way, and if you can afford the time, take advantage of it so you can dive safely and really solidify your skills.

For those who have gone through freediving courses, what course did you take and how long did it take you to meet the requirements? For instructors, what are some of the reasons that some of your students succeed or have troubles meeting the requirements for each course? Please comment below so freedivers looking to progress in their journey can plan their training accordingly and maximize chances for success!
I did SSI level 1 and 2 with a training day in between. Got a ear barotrauma during the training day, mostly likely because when i went deeper my Frenzel wasn't working as well or it was changing to Valsava. I did all theory stuff the first days since I had to stay out of the water. Failed to find an ENT doctor but with help from my instructor and Linda Paginelli I got the correct ear drops and was able to finish my level 2 course. Currently doing techniques to try and master no hand equalization. But I think the balloon exercises are good ones to get more control over all the muscles in the throat. @@ThePupil thanks! I feel like doing the level 1 and 2 back to back can be hard if your sinuses and E tubes aren't conditioned. You'll be able to dive to a depth and then will be able to equalize to shallower and shallower depths before you finally block up and can't equalize anymore that session. I learned a lot about this recently and exercises that can help with it. Let me know if this sounds like what happened to you!

Thanks for your video! So inspiring! What are then requirements for an SSI level 2 depth and static wise?
To answer your question, I took my CMAS level 1 as a weekly class at a pool, its a pool only level no depth yet. But we were lucky to train in a 5m deep pool.
I did my PADI Freediver through online training, some pool trainings and a one weekend open water in a cold quarry. I continued practicing and my max depth is 18m but it seems that when I hit our 2nd thermocline I tense up from cold and then can't equalize. So I am thinking I should do my advanced where its warmer than 5 degree Celsius at depth lol. You're inspiring me to check out the Philippines!!!
Irene, if you come to the Philippines, there are some excellent places I can recommend! And brrr....5 degrees is colder than where I learned how to scuba dive haha! Requirements for SSI Level 2 are a minimum depth of 20 meters (you're super close to that already) and minimum breath hold time is 2:30 I believe.

Try using a netty for your sinus! U will find the problem is always stress!

Yeah! They are between $300 and $400 depending on the level and where you are taking the course!
Did the SSI Level 1 .I failed the 10 m depth requirement because of equalisation problems dur to stress.Went back for a 4 hour private training a few weeks later in which the instructor got me gradually to 10 meters for the first time.Next training i did the 4 required 10 m dives without a problem.
