2:40 This scene shows how the Elves and Dragons are also in a way responsible for the creation of dark magic. The novels reveal that for centuries, humans were left to struggle without magic. They would die of illness or famine, and the few survivors were left to fight over what little resources that they had.
The dragons and elves could’ve helped, but chose not to. From their perspective, “If humans were supposed to have magic, they’d have been born with it”. But Callum has proven that humans can connect to primal magic. Maybe if the dragons and elves were willing to help sooner, human primal mages would be more common, and all this would’ve never happened.
Imagine Viren and Claudia as primal mages. Viren probably wouldn’t have become so corrupted, and his wife wouldn’t have left him and Soren and Claudia would’ve had a healthy family. Also Callum’s mom would still be alive, and Zym’s egg would never have been stolen. All the problems would’ve been solved.
A poem was writen that explaind that after Sol Regem was blinded he desroyed Elarion
Elarion, trembling seed,
lay down to earth in icy night,
and in the cold
her roots took hold
defying winter's deathly bite.
Elarion, fading bloom,
afraid to wilt and dim and die,
she searched the dark
for but a spark
and caught the dragons' hungry eye.
Elarion, frightened waif,
reached bone-white branches to the night,
the stars she asked
their light to cast
and stop the dragons' fiery might.
Elarion, unworthy whelp,
Wept as the stars turned black the sky,
They donned their masks
They turned their backs,
And left Elarion to die.
Elarion, dying husk,
did wilt and whimper in the dark,
'till the last star
Reached from afar
His touch: a blaze, a gift, a spark.
Elarion, searing white,
Embraced the great one's night-black flame.
And when she bowed,
Her faith avowed,
He whispered, "Aaravos", his name.
Elarion, black-eyed child,
her twisted roots spread deep and far,
The humans' might
sparked by the light
of Aaravos, her midnight star.
3:28 in one of the poems aaravos was referred to (among other things) as 'the last of the great ones'. Also he recognised that staff when he was talking to viren and in one of the end credits the star caterpillar was sitting on it. So it might be just straight-up aaravos' staff

Regarding the intro scene: The dark mage showed up in the season 1 intro when Aaravos narrated that it has been a thousand years since dark magic was discovered, so the confrontation with Sol Regem probably also took place back then. And then the continent was divided in two ...
