It'll make you harder to hit. This strategy can also work to not be shot by snipers. When sniping, there's one main goal. DON'T be seen. When the people who you're sniping start shooting back, either head down and engage them directly, or change where you're standing.

Also move around the map to other good sniping spots where your perfecly hidden. By doing so you will not be found and you will tag more people. It doesn't really matter if you get tagged your fine as long as you earn your pionts back. The best way to win is to get an many hits as possible so if you haven't seen/hit someone in the last 30 seconnds move too an place where there are more targets/people for you to shoot. Also if you see people comming your way don't run or hide just shoot them as many times as you can. They real goal of the game is to get/earn as many pionts as you can so remember to shoot anyone you see and not just the people who come your way. Yes that means people below you,above you even people on the other side of the map. So basicly hit any blinking lights you see as many times as you can and you will get in the top 3.

You cannot hold it with one hand, in this case your phaser will not work. There is a heat sensor under the phaser's front part, that must be covered with hand.
what i do is sit ib the middle of the maze and the one i always go to has a elevated room with lil wholes and playing in center of maze highly increases accuracy and if u play a lot u will know the other twams routes by heart i stay under the room and there is always at least 2 or 3 people on other tean down there ill get them and when they know where i am i instantly flank them and shoot them in the back then change position but if ita only one i stick around and run circles and pop out im short and when i know exactky where they are like behind cover waiting for me to come out theres a lil whole i stick my phaser through and shoot also i get my whole team to take over building while me and my friend stay on ground
And also. Do not tell your strategy to anyone. Not even your teammates. You'll never know when you need to play against them, and if they know your strategy, you will be doomed

2 years later but here's an answer I play Lazer tag all the time. You shouldn't use tape or clothes to cover up your sensors but you can use cover/obstacles to keep them covered. When face to face with someone, you can jump up and down. This helps you because your sensors go up with you and it causes the enemy to miss.
To be honest, It's the way you want to play. If you want to hold the phaser the rifleman way, then go ahead. The person in the video is just showing a new side of laser tag that isn't really popular yet, but in time it shall be. This style of playing laser tag does not display bad sportsmanship at all. It's actually smart, the phaser can be shot too. You don't need to play Laser Tag like it's real life combat because you can re-spawn like in 4 to 8 sec's.
You still have flashing lights but you are better off staying independent as the other team is more likely to spot a big blur of flashing lights rather than just a couple. (And save the other team for a giant 1,000 jackpot just because a whole team stuck together)

I have recharging towers in my local arena. They have little protection so I spawn camp the team

shooting practice maybe , but not very likely because its something very differwnt from real shooting(eg no recoil wyc)
