  • In this video, we’ll go over one way to uncover abstract painting treasures in your sketchbooks and art journals. In this fun and spontaneous art demo, I'll show you one of my favorite and easy techniques for finding those hidden gems within your artwork.
    I start off with a quick 8x10 inch intuitive and expressive warm-up painting in my sketchbook. Using a mix of vibrant lime green, rich Winsor blue, striking magenta, bright cadmium yellow light hue, and titanium white acrylic paint, I let my creativity flow freely. I begin by creating random marks with alcohol markers and a fine-tip applicator filled with Mars black acrylic paint.
    ➡️This abstract painting on Etsy - www.etsy.com/listing/17297860...
    Once the warm-up painting is complete, the real magic begins. I grab a 5x7 inch white mat and start to analyze sections of the painting, looking for those hidden abstract treasures and opportunities to bring harmony to the artwork. This matting technique is fantastic for focusing on different parts of your artwork and uncovering surprising details that you might have overlooked.
    Throughout this art demo, I emphasize the importance of using your sketchbook and art journal as playgrounds for experimentation. They are perfect spaces for discovering new techniques and letting your creativity run wild. As I move the mat around the painting, you'll see how small, framed sections can reveal incredible abstract treasures and inspire new pieces of art.
    By the end of this video, you'll have a fresh perspective on how to uncover hidden gems in your sketchbooks and art journals. So, grab your supplies, get comfortable, and join me in this art demo to explore the fascinating world of abstract painting. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more creative inspiration!
    And remember, keep on painting!

    I've been doing this a lot recently. But, only using 1 colour to play around with values. I had some great little pieces to translate onto a larger canvas. It was just an experiment that worked out well. I think you have to experiment. I simply adore your colour scheme.

    Thanks for the reminder to look at your art in different ways.
    When you create a piece do you tend to start and finish with the same orientation? Or are there times you plan a certain direction but then when you turn it you see a better angle?
    Loved those white splashes. I do love splashes.
    When doing the viewfinder, the one you discounted in the bottom left with the dots showing to the side and bottom, I actually liked. The dots, to me, flowed and gave the impression of movement.

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  Před 18 dny +1

      Thank you!❤️ I'm always open to finishing in a different orientation. If it is a more representational abstract, I tend to finish in the orientation I began with, but I love to turn the painting and work on it with a different point of view.
      I sometimes get a little splash happy, but they usually add such energy and interest in my opinion.
      Because I was creating this video, I didn't give the painting time to sit and then look at it with fresh eyes. Watching the video now I see many versions that I initially didn't like, that I am now a fan. The bottom left is one of those. It's always good to walk away and come back with fresh eyes, but not always easy to do. 😕

      @puresunrays80 Před 18 dny

      @chrisloudart weird, yes I see it. Here’s the comment copied over...
      Hi Chris, I have colour shapers, I also have a thin, more solid plastic tool, more used for applying texture paste through stencils etc. I am considering investing in a catalyst wedge. Would it be a good addition and does its use differ from the colour shapers for instance?
      When you recreate these pieces onto a larger scale, how much are you trying to replicate and keep true to the original? Or are you starting with this piece as your reference but letting intuition lead the direction?
      I've only really got fully into art and mixed media over the past couple of years, as a wonderful yet unexpected outcome of using art in my counselling to access emotional trauma. Isn't it amazing what art can do?!
      I'm very much an experimenter, I love to try everything. I'm still working my way through the ways to play with paint and other things.
      I do art just for myself in my art room called The Shinery. I'm on Facebook if you would like to have a look...

    The orange form distracts me because I keep seeing the head of a guinea pig wearing a white sweatband peering over something and he looks as if he shouldn't be in the picture - he's crew not cast.

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  Před 10 dny

      Hey Jenny! I wasn't as bothered by the dots in the yellow, but my initial thoughts as to why the dots in general didn't work were 1) I felt the orange was the main draw for the eye and they were too close to the orange, therefore, creating more of a distraction from the focal point and 2) even thought they were small their more rectangular shape didn't fit the style of the rest of the painting. What are your thoughts as to why they didn't work?
