Actually McLarren's, Ferrari's and Lamborghini's reliability is pretty piss poor at best. I love to look at them but I would never own one to actually drive a lot.

To be fair, Dave Pericak is the guy who who lead the development of this generation of Mustang and I believe he's the head of the Ford Performance division, so it only makes sense.

Jay Leno is a little clueless. Asking if the car is a DOHC? Was is this? 1990? Or claiming Europeans mostly do torque converters? Every car enthusiast know what PDK the fact that it's a benchmark.
This cars is my dream car. Hands down the most impressive mustang ever made. The power....the cooling systems the engineering on this is outrageous

2020 GT350 is better i o in so many ways..ya 500 has more power but 350 is old school 6 speed and analog gauges. has same block as 500....same flat plank as gt350r just amazing

Dave Pericak, as the chief engineer for this car, is on a completely different (higher) level than Mr. Leno. That he restrained himself from smiling at some of the inane questions/observations is admirable.

Such an awesome car, they really did a nice job with it. The Redeye hellcat is still dropping a fair bit more power, but there's probably like 700lbs weight difference between them so this may beat it out anyway...and the hellcat will never turn like this will, I reckon. Very cool stuff. Love it.
Well both are very different cars. Dodge is all about being crazy and always being the king at the quarter mile. Dodges are probably the purest muscle car experience you can still get. Mustangs and Camaros have gone more into the sports car territory (even if they were pony cars and not muscle cars) If you want to have fun the Redeye definitely gives you that. But the mustang is also a track car that still has muscle DNA.
It's only 200-300 pounds lighter, BUT it has a dual clutch transmission. So its gonna be quite a bit quicker of the line. Also who knows! Maybe itll be quicker in the quarter mile and on the drag strip. We already know it will be alot better in the turns, like on a road course or whatever. But if it beats the hellcat and hellcat redeye on the road course, AND the drag strip then ill be really impressed. Blown away actually. That would be very impressive!
I pray to St Leno to Protect my car and keep it safe. ;)

Anodizing the exhaust tips so they are black would help match with the carbon fiber wheels. And alleviate the need to polish them.

I’m 22 and drive a 2017 V6 s550 mustang and I absolutely love it, I can’t even imagine how it would feel to drive this monster.
One day I’ll own a Shelby like this, I don’t doubt it for a second.
Well, as Jay says @15:15, the 300 hp Mustangs are absolutely fun. Enjoy what you have for now, they are all great cars.
At a fraction of the price of a GT500 you can boost a GT and have a monster on your hands. I got a 17 GT with a Roush Phase 2 and its fantastic. No GT500 but still over 700 HP and a lot of fun

Matt Livo Automatic are faster anyway. I love sticks but the 2019 GT manual pissed me of. The neutral spring is too stiff. I missed 2 second gear a few times. Now i c y people keep ducking up the transmission.
Manuals will soon be a thing of the past. The few companies that still produce them for sports cars do it for the middle aged market.
You buy a car like this for the driving experience. An automatic is not an experience. I will not be buying one, and I'm a Ford guy who waited for this car. I will be purchasing a manual Dodge Challenger Redeye.
Matt Livo a dual clutch is better for lap times . And probably better developed for the torque this thing produces.
My all time favorite car! Absolutely Incredible. The 2016 Ford Shelby GT350, GT350R is also Absolutely Amazing.
Even as a Camaro fanboy, this is an amazing car. Definitely wouldn’t mind owning one.
What a great representative to have. There are a lot of “company” guys who try talk about cars, who know only what they read on the flight over. This guy knew what he was talking about, great job! Position well deserved 🇺🇸.
It's just a prime example that we need to employ people in jobs/occupations that they love, instead of forcing people to work a job they hate just to get a paycheck.
If everyone enjoyed their job, they would be happy to go to work. They would do better in that position than someone that doesn't care about it. And that goes for every industry.
What we have in the world now, is people scattered into occupations they hate, and they end up doing that their whole lives. Wasting potential, wasting their talents, and making people miserable. Society has expanded too fast for us to do it properly. We should genuinely consider options to restructure the work force around the country/world if we want humanity to succeed.

I love the trend of carbon fiber wheels. I remember putting 18" chrome wheels on my last Mustang, and they weighed a ton, even compared to the stock wheels. You're probably talking about a 100+ lb difference between that and carbon fiber. That's a game-changer.
I recently just started liking the new mustangs, I always thought they were trash because of what I see online but now realized they may be wrong, this is a beautiful car inside and out

@@technom3598 Yeah I'm always shocked by seeing any exoticnup close. My favorite car is the Lamborghini Aventador (what a phenomenal design even 8 years later) and when I saw it up close, it was definitely big but it has such a "shrinkwrapped" design about it that most of these cars have to save weight or as least, as Lamborghini admits, "looks like" it is lightweight. All of the buttons on the interior are all tiny and that car in particular is less than four feet tall.
There was one car video I saw, I can't remember if it was from Gumbal, NM2255 or Bozzy but it showed the F1 next to other modern supercars and it almost looked like a toy car

I got to drive one of these on the 9th of Oct, around a racetrack with curves, (3 times) and straightaways. The power doesn’t seem to have an end, it just keeps accelerating! It was the most awesome driving experience I’ve ever had. My Sons got this for me for my birthday. Best birthday present ever. Also, Thanks to my driving coach “Fast Freddy” @ Extreme Experience! ***when it shifted from 6th to 7th at over a 100, the back end broke loose, fishtailed a little, and self-corrected!
I know this is an old comment but why did the back break loose at almost 100 mph??
The torque on this thing when you get on it seems optimal for Jay's horizontal line of sight. Head gets pinned back but those slumpy eyes are dialed in.
I'm a Porsche man. I'm sold on my car. But, dear God, this man is an excellent salesman. Props to his charisma and ability!
He's the chief engineer for this car. He's way beyond the typical marketing guy Jay speaks to (and way beyond Jay).

The Shelby owns a lot of cars and the start price once the economy hopefully goes back to normal will be 72k. Which is a good price to beat a lot of cars.

Dave is a car guy through and through! He was not only insanely technical on every aspect of the vehicle but he is really enjoying talking about this project. The story on Le Mans was truly one that is a script for Ford vs. Ford Le Mans! I can’t imagine how Dave felt hearing the story standing there while Edsel Ford is talking about not only a page out of his memory but actual Motorsport legend. To say we will do our very best to put the trophy in your hands must have felt a little overwhelming to say as well as a huge amount of stress. I would love to know what Edsel thought about what Dave said, did he think it was truly possible or just another very passionate Ford employee telling him what he would like to hear but in the pit of Edsel’s stomach knowing the extraordinary feat that must be achieved to make that commitment a reality.
Jay, I didn’t like him as much as the host of the Tonight Show(I don’t like most of them btw)but I love him doing this show. I work in the automotive sector, I LOVE what I do and I have an extreme passion for it. I have worked in this field since 1998 and Jay’s knowledge on such a wide amount of vehicles makes me feel like i am in the first year of High School listening to a Professor who has a Doctorate in Automotive.

So I bought the 2015 ecoboost new. And I absolutely love it. And the fact Jay says he loves it, makes me feel validated that even though it's not a V8 mustang, it's still a mustang. I'm very much in love with mustangs. Yeah I didn't get a V8 but I still got a mustang.
What a concept: "Give the customer what they want." Anathema to the "Nanny State." A real pleasure listening to dialog between two men at the top of the pyramid in their fields, sharing their love of superior automobiles. This Shelby GT is amazing!

I'm absolutely no doubt about it a stripe guy, and, if I was about to drop some cold hard cash on one of these(...may be just a weeee bit outta my price range at the moment...) and had to go through and check the boxes, I would probably end up going matte black stripes on black base - but, if two black ones were sitting side by side, one with stripes and one without... ...oh man, I just don't know...
They just KILLED IT with the design and styling! It seems like when anyone does a 'wide body' for a high performance varient, they tend to exaggerate it or over emphasize it; but, this is just a very focused, cohesive design all the way around. Even the carbon fiber usage; carbon fiber can look as gawdy as swaths of chrome can, but, even with all exposed(clear coated) carbon wheels, it's just in all the 'right places' without just being scattered everywhere "...cuz high performance car and carbon fiber is high performance, so the door panels have to be all carbon fiber[even though we just put the carbon on top of a standard door panel so it doesn't actually save any weight...]"
It seems that the super snake (2013-) is been up in value lately....
Well I've seen black 350s even in person. And it does look great but its still not too different to having it in another color. For this though it turns into a different car in Black. Well it is true that any car looks good in black, the only problem is that it's hard to keep it clean. Well the stripes are quite an essential part of a Shelby but in this case I don't mind at all.

It is interesting while Ford is doing a big press intro in Vegas, they actually bring a GT500 and the director of icons to his garage for him to drive. That says a lot of where Jay Leno ranks in the eyes of the automotive enthusiast world.

I'm almost at the ridiculous down payment I need for this and im very excited to own one. Ford really knocked it out of the park with the GT500, it's simply the fastest muscle car out there.

This happened recently, an older lady would not let him drive her car, I believe it was on his TV show.
When this generation of Mustang first came out, Dave (same dude as this video) bought over a prototype, and they would not Jay take it out due to it being non road legal.
There is an episode with an old Porsche and the dude did not let Jay drive it, Jay sat in the passenger seat and looked upset. And the Pagani but that one Jay was OK with because Jay really respects Mr Pagani.
Jay: ”And it runs on pump gas”
Fordguy :”Ye it does”
Jay: ”And it meets emissions”

Guys: I had a Ford "Total Performance" matched hi-rise intake and cam and lifter set. Bought it from the Ford Dealer's parts counter (No longer have my catalog Jay). Ford designed the parts to work together as a system. I installed it on my 64 1/2 Mustang convertible - 289 4 bb, 4-speed. Ran 14.00's all day long. This was in 1969 - at that time, a lot of hot cars like GTO's and Road Runners didn't run 14's. Those Ford parts were the nuts.
In 15 years, Jay is going to be going 30 mph no matter what car he's driving, and swerving all over the place. And I'll still watch every episode.
And he'll still be continually referring to "back in the sixties..."

I'd rather the base model have a stick and the 'carbon pack' wihout, just because the base isn't optimised for track in the same way, but that might increse the 'carbon pack' to $15k - 20k
I would normally agree but every other mustang comes standard with a stick. This was built to optimize the platform

When I see a video that's 36 minutes long I think "I'll watch for a few minutes". That never happens here. I end up staying for the entire video. Jay is such a comfortable guy to watch and gets the best cars and people on his channel.

I work for ford as a detailer, and today we had to get on ready for delivery, oxhorn white with blue stripes it was a beast. Wish I had $80,000 laying around cause man she purred and when you rev it man. I didn't take it on the road since all I do is clean them up, buff sometimes and drive them to customer parking but yes my new dream car.

I underappreciated this car. Corvette driver who tried to buy a C8 (which is a great car...but not for the ADM you have to pay if you're not willing to wait 18 months). After doing a little searching, picked up a base GT500 last weekend and so glad I have the opportunity to experience this car for however long I decide to keep it.
This Dave guy seems like a cool dude who knows his stuff and has a great personality.
He should, he was the Director of Ford Performance which was responsible for the Raptor, Ford GT, GT350 etc all under his watch.

@@mgabrysSF Hell, I don't even think that it's Jay bringing them in at this point - rather I think some of these automakers got burned a couple times by sending PR guys to show off their new car; and Jay just ends up kinda embarrassing them with questions that 'your dad' would ask. Want to actually get a beneficial result out of putting your new car on Jay's show? Then you better bring someone that knows what the hell they're talking about!
Now, with that said, Ford has always been good about sending the 'right' people - but that's easy enough to do when you have a high performance division called the "Special Vehicle Team", now 'Ford Performance' of course.
I'm not always happy with some of Ford's decision making(...I mean, literally NO CARS for north America that aren't a Mustang or GT? Not even the Focus???), but they have ALWAYS done high performance vehicles right - and, unlike basically the rest of the industry, they're the only ones that see lap times as being secondary to the driving experience.

You know, I've been a diehard Chevy fan for years and years. But I'm also an engineer. You absolutely cannot help but appreciate this car and what Ford has done with their engines in recent years. The Coyote engine is simply amazing, and these boosted cars are just incredible.

Agreed. I just bought a 2020 Mustang GT 6 speed. Not, 700+ horsepower like the Shelby but 460 HP is enough for me. I could always add some aftermarket parts for a fraction of the cost. Still love this car though.
