Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.

I never understood why my mom wanted to clean the house before vacation...until I was a mom.😂
it's the only time it stays clean for more than 4 SECONDS
I'm the dad and the mom gets irritated with me for cleaning the house before a trip. It took ten years before she finally understood.
Very understandable - but this can and SHOULD be done the night before!
And a mess as soon as you get home from unpacking the car so pointless. Especially when coming home from camping.
@@donabeth4561 We don't camp but we do ski and no matter what time we get home the car gets unpacked, skis and ski gear hung up and put away properly, clothes in the hamper. There used to be whining but we've all gotten used to it.
Too many times have we not unpacked and then can't find anything for the next trip.
Thank you for reminding me why road trips are both fun and stressful! I also hate coming home to a dirty house. It's always worth the extra time!

You forgot 2 stages...the snack eating - popcorn explodes all over when you hit a bump - and the search for the perfect restroom or gas station...
Wait... one last one... the emergency "find a bathroom NOW!" stop cus you stupidly ate at some quaint hole-in-the wall instead of the usual national chain offerings and it didn't agree with at least one family member.
Oh, and don't forget the 1 kid that always gets car-sick and/or earaches in mountainous areas and screams bloody murder. 😂 (the ear one was actually me as a kid... parents had to plan any routes to avoid as many mountains as possible!)
This was exactly what I needed after a "menopause mood swing" moment. Thank you, you never fail to make me laugh! =D
Bathrooms wise: my family just goes to Cracker Barrel’s bathrooms because they’re always clean and relatively empty and Cracker Barrels are on every exit it seems here down south
And maybe leaving the baby in the restroom ... I thought you had him! No, I thought you had him! That happened with my family once. 3 teenagers, mom, and surprise baby on a road trip. 🙂 And yeah, we did turn back around and get him.
I'm very okay with the knowledge that my wife and I aren't the only ones. Literally on point for everything.

My husband is the bad navigator and I’m the annoying backseat driver in our case 😂
Your 25 marriage will be OK if you survive getting accidentally lost in downtown Detroit after reentering the country (45 minute wait!), getting shunted off the interstate due to no detour signs for construction, then misdirected by Google Maps, all while hangry. This all occurs between 5 and 6 PM after a 7 hour road trip from the cottage in Ontario where you have been for the past week with no road or electricity or a shower. Good times!!😂
Well be grateful it didn’t lightly rain and turn Detroit into a fun flooded maze. 😂

In my house the motto is your allowed to hear it/listen to it, your just not allowed to repeat it, unless it's justified. Parents are judge, jury and executioner in determining the necessity of swear words.
In my house, once you become a teenager, you may swear with permission depending upon circumstance and situation.

@treedruid my kids will only be allowed to swear if they are working on a car. I am still 11 years away from my first teenager though.

As a dad with many family road trips under my belt, this video resonates with me on so many levels.
Wow....a Dude Dad video we cannot relate to, belive it or not. Drove cross country with three Mastiff mix dogs, a 5 yo, a 5 month old, and mom who was unknowingly 6 weeks pregnant in the ol 07 Dodge Caravan and HAD A BLAST!! The oldest still talks about it today a year later.
Drove 2168 miles there then the same back.
I hope there’s a part 2 to this- so far this is literally spot on! 😂
I have to say you guys are on a roll, the last 3 or 4 of your videos have been some of my favorites.. This one, the historical figures as influencers, the RV have all been really good.

Agree with the navigation issues. She *thought* she could read a map, but could not and didn't pay attention to where we were. She eventually learned that when I responded to her directions with "Are you certain of that?" it meant she was wrong.
grew up in the 90s and the 2000s, with the exception of the podcast it is scary how accurate this was in replicating every roadtrip I took with my mom and dad

I want to see a “every couple trying to park” I don’t know how many times me and my wife give each other ugly looks after finally finding a parking spot.
1. I either can’t park
2. I park to far away
3. I am missing parking spots
4. Screams about car backing out of parking spot that is half way down lot about to hit me.
5. Ask me “ are you going to fit in there” line
6. And the obvious “do you want me to drive” line

My daughter used a very similar editing technique on me so we could listen to her music on our drive to school. Her sisters were amazed at the things she snuck by me 😂

We have road tripped with our 5 kids tons and tons of times! Honestly, it was never like this for us, though....We are Gen X so we don't spend a lot of time on our phones or get distracted by them. We have solid navigation skills because we grew up without GPS. My husband is a truck driver so nowadays he drives pretty much the whole way. I only drive if he needs to sleep which means he's not awake to back seat drive me and he's a professional driver so I don't back seat drive him. We had child safe (but current and popular) music on our MP3 player for the drive but honestly, by the time our youngest was 5ish we gave up on bleeping song lyrics. By then our oldest kids were teens and in high school so she's heard it all anyway. Our kids are mostly grown now and still love road trips and remember our trips fondly.
“Do a little dance, make a lil FUN, get down tonight” that’s what my parents sang in the 70’s n front of me.. was a teen when I learned it was make a little LOVE! my kids got “tong song” by sisqo. 😂😂 and they found out later..😂😂

This is why I road trip with my best friend. We are both ultra an over prepared for even a basic 6 hour drive. We listen to the same music. We both know we are no good after 3 hours of trying not to fall asleep at the wheel. We agree on the places we absolutely have to stop at. Podcasts are not allowed. We've never been in road trip fights. And if for whatever reason, s--- hits the fan, we both have cops in our families.

I can beat him. I got lost in a city park for several hours.
Admittedly it was The Gathering Place in Tulsa on opening day & it's a big 64 acres.
Awesome place but they hid the exit. I kept going through these rocky canyon plant areas & I also kept missing the side one that lead to the parking lot. It just blended in & being opening day no one who worked there knew the exit either.
Also I have bad fibromyalgia so I kept sitting down. You really can't help sitting down a lot because literally every time you turn around there's a few places to sit down.
It's an amazing park with some amazing facilities that keep getting better.
Plus except for the fancy restaurant everything is low cost or even free.
No admission, free world class music/artistic events & the Cabinet of Wonders has some amazing exhibits from the world & Tulsa's history. Including a horse skeleton & a narwhale horn. Oh there's also a pond where you can 'rent' canoes or a paddle boat in the summer for free.
Sorry to ramble but if you're going to pick a park to get lost in the gathering place should be it.
It's also accessible to a wide range of abilities. Even adults can go on the playground equipment for the most part.
Alas my nieces & nephews are too old to really enjoy it. So not nearly as fun for a single adult. But the events certainly are.
Oh my that is every trip we make. Sometimes even when we go to church. This was funny. Goof job.
