In the summer of 2021, midfielder Kaoru Mitoma left Kawasaki Frontale, where he was born and raised, and started his European challenge with a permanent transfer to Premier League Brighton. In his first season, he was loaned to Belgium's Royal Union Saint-Giroise, where he scored a spectacular hat-trick to establish himself in the starting line-up and lead the club's historic run.
Also, in November last year, he was called up to the Japanese national team for the first time in the Qatar World Cup final qualifiers, and immediately provided his first assist in the match against Oman in his first match. In his second match against Australia in March this year, he scored two spectacular goals in the closing stages, leading Moriyasu Japan to the Qatar World Cup. This past year left a strong impression on me as I achieved results at every "turning point" after the Tokyo Olympics, where I had both challenges and achievements. In late May, he asked the 25-year-old about his thoughts after returning to Japan.

三笘が述べている短い時間での途中起用で結果出さなかったら・・・・という件は興味深くて、森保が三笘の川崎やユニオンでのプレーを見て彼の能力を把握して、スタメンで起用してどのように活かすか試行していないという証みたいなもの。
だから戦術三笘発言なんてしちゃうし、どう考えても愚かな監督だと露呈している。
