Toyota Sienna - Rear A/C Lines Replacement
Vložit
- čas přidán 22. 06. 2024
- In this video I am working on a customer's 2013 Toyota Sienna that I had previously looked at and found a leak in the rear A/C lines. Now it's time to replace them. The way Toyota makes these is really nice having them split into 4 sections from the factory.
-Enjoy!

"I almost looked up in the instructions, but we didn't have to go that far."
Damn right !
WE'RE MEN!
"I can't imagine being a mechanic down south in this heat."
Every time I watch you work on a GM truck I say "I can't imagine being a mechanic up north in that rust."
I was going to say the exact same thing. I'm in Louisiana and am flabbergasted at some of the RUST on his customers vehicles!
In the summer time even all the way up in southern Ontario Canada We can get over 95 F with high humidity. I will take your dry 110 heat any day
If I was driving bye, I wouldn't honk. I would yell loudly Hey Its This Guy.
with the CB on loudspeaker.
Hope you have a great day Vanessa. Happy Birthday!
It's so nice to see a normal person on the internet
So funny your comment is at the top. I just had the same thought. Eric mostly gets applauded for teaching his skills but for many I think his appeal is that he's the buddy we all appreciate.
Agreed, it's always nice to see Mrs. O! 🤣
@@GC-jh1uf Ken and GC, exactly right. I reserve most of my YT watching for folks I'd enjoy sitting down and having a beer with, aside from any info they provide. Scotty K doesn't make that cut, not by a looooooong shot.
Says way more about you than it does Eric.
Ditto that !
EO...you kill me with that " heh its that guy" every time someone honks the horn😂😂😂
One day I'll drive the 1500 miles it takes to get to SMA to honk in front of his shop lol
Any AC work on a car that doesn’t require half of the dashboard to come out is a winner.
I'm amazed at how nice that chassis looks after 13 years in New York, Scotty's right about something
It's why you pay more for a Toyota over a comparable domestic (except the dissolving truck frames). The Toyota might have a little harsher ride, a little more road noise, and a little more interior compartment drive train noise, but Toyota does far more to protect the vehicle from rot by shielding areas prone to gather salt and sand, etc.
I will always pick a Toyota over a domestic. For 30 years I was a GM and Ford fan. I got so sick and tired of both nickel and diming me, and having semi frequent higher dollar repairs I started asking mechanic friends what vehicles they saw that didn't have constant issues and most said Toyota, including a few diehard Chevy thunder fans. A decade later and I'm still a Toyota fan. There is a reason they hold their value and are infact the highest turnover on domestic brand's used car lots.
This van was WAY nicer than the 2016 Chevy truck video earlier this week that Eric replace the fuel pump on. I'm sure Eric needed a Tetanus shot after that horror show!
SCOTTY MUST HAVE WAVED HIS ARMS AROUND THIS ONE KEEPING THE RUST DOWN(LOL)
@@truracer20 ---AMEN...
@@truracer20 Too bad they didn't do that with their old pickup trucks. The frames and beds on those rotted away before you got them home.
“And of course before this leaves we’ll get the torque wrench and torque this to factory spec”. My favorite line!! Dude, you are great, so glad I found your channel
Thanks Eric! My daughter is much happier now they have air in the front and the back! Hope you had a nice dinner at the Social Friday night. You could have fixed my weed eater too!
Nice wagon Sir !!!!
you and your family are lucky to have SMA on your team!
Never-mind all that. Where did the Peaches come from ????
Love that you’re always thinking about the car show 😂😂
Don't wanna lose those points lol
My Sienna is best Sienna. It's rare. It's one of only 3 in this model year in this color and option combination made between 3-3:04PM on a Thursday.
I heard the car show Judges are now bringing torque wrenches with them
Happy Birthday Mrs. "O"
She has a name...
They get nasty because they are jealous of your skill set. You became a mechanic because you have a gift!
He was born into it
They?
Yes, indeedy. Those who have not put in the effort to learn a profession, get a perverse pleasure in scolding Eric O. It just shows the rest of us how stupid they are. Eric O's started working on cars when he was 15. He now has 30 years experience and it shows. The negative commentators hate that. They feel small and jealous. Eric O is a Grand Master Auto Mechanic. Whatever he does is the _correct_ way to do it, and the only response is "wow, I did not know you could do it that way."
They are nasty because Eric (and his team) are a Success without resorting to the Lying, Cheating, & Stealing so many believe necessary to get by today. Eric infuriates "those people".
@@Failure_Is_An_Option such an in depth and intellectual analysis!
Nice work on the A/C big guy! HEY! HOPE YOU REMEMBERED WHOSE BIRTHDAY IT IS TOMORROW! 😁🤩😁 Happy Birthday Mrs. O.! 😍🤩😁🥰😁♋🎉
How could I forget😏 She's a pretty lucky girl 😅
Well I guess referring to your wife's birthday.. well that's an important date for my wife also and myself we were married 46 years ago.. on that date.. thanks for reminding me LOL
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mrs. O!
@@SouthMainAuto Yeah, and you are a pretty lucky guy!
Happy Birthday Mrs O 😊
Ah, the legendary blues singer Fuzzy Cardboard- an American treasure!
God Bless you son, you're a first class mechanic with a great business!
I appreciate that!
I work on rusty crusty stuff in No. IL and I learned long ago to never curse yourself by saying "Looks like we're home free". It almost never fails that something breaks right after those words are mentioned. The old 10 minute job turns into an all day ordeal.
It may be hot down south, but they never break a sweat busting rusty stuff loose, like you Mr O.
Hey Scotty told me Toyota was easy to work on!😂
Out of all the rear AC lines I've done, this is easily the second easiest. The gmc acadias ann that platform are also pretty easy to do. Everything else pretty much sucks haha
You know you and MRS. O are one awesome couple love the chemistry
Like I said to Wes, we're just along for the ride while you do your real job. We would rather you be comfortable in the shop then suffer with this heat. The audio isn't bad at all with the fan running. Although, this is the 2nd video without Lawnmower Man in the background, so maybe I shouldn't press my luck.
Huzzah!
Eric, as I am a transplant from the PRNY living down south now. I do enjoy the weather here, no white stuff that falls from the sky for 6 or so months of the year. Yes, I am a Damn Yankee and enjoying it.
That Yota undercarriage certainly looks a helluva lot better than most of the 10 year old+ vehicles you bring through the channel!
I'm in Florida, Regardless, South Main Auto is the Best repair Channel on the TUBE, By Far! Love Y'all!!
Eric O is the best. Would love to see him ditch the People's Republic of NY and come down here. I would drive across FL to have him work on my vehicles.
I can imagine the swearing when you change a flat with snow and slush on the ground. Thanks Eric!
To get the spare tire down there's a special tool located inside the back panel. It also contains the jack and lug wrench 🔧
Your weather now is like our summers every year. Hot and humid Kansas summers
It's Global Boiling Climate Weather Change, it's never been this hot before ever in world history, and people living now are suffering more than anybody else ever. 😅😂😆
Scotty lied to us!! Priceless!! 👊
You know I'm 15 min in and I am amazed how little rust is on that vehicle.
Xcelite (that's what Toyota calls their underbody protection) is awesome. The whole body out once it leaves the weld shop gets dipped twice and then it gets dropped into an ED tank. (I worked at the plant and on the assembly line that built the Sienna's).
@@LoneWolfSparty it's pretty awesome
You earned your pay on this one! Well done Sir!
😂 loved how you stopped what you were doing to assure the audience you had properly torqued everything 🤣🤣🤣
Happy early birthday to Mrs. O 🎉💜
Another good video. No issues with audio. Keep up the good work
Sunday morning watching Eric O. Induction heating crusty stuff! What a nice Sunday! Thanks SMA
So...I have to say something... I always learn from you, each and every video! But, reading the instructions isn't a bad thing: at worst you recognize that they are crap and or out-right wrong, at best they save you time and headache. I spent a fair amount of my 40 years working, writing instructions for service engineers, the auto technicians of the medical device industry. I always wrote and tested procedures as if my job was make-or-break on the outcome, because it was critical for our field engineers and the patients dependent on the equipment they serviced. My spouse ran her business for almost 30 years writing service and operation instructions, mostly for medical devices, all over the world. We always read the instructions when available and we admit that some documentation is crap, but prefer to at least give it a chance to make our day.
It usually only take a few minutes to read the instructions.
Love the off camera torque wrench! Feel the burn keyboard warriors!
Nice to see a Sienna in the shop, always informative. The spare tire hoist on my '13 Sienna, uses a 5-sided head. The socket couples to the speed wrench style jack handle. It's a pain, but more difficult to over torque.
I don't know if you read comments on old videos, but I just watched one of yours from 9 years ago. It helped me out with a brake job on an '09 Subaru. Thanks
Thank you for this wonderful video. I _love_ the SMA videos which do _not_ have a scan tool. Diagnosis is the heart and soul of what SMA does, and Eric O is a master at teaching us all. But... I am never going diagnose a car problem, much less use a scan tool. Watching Eric O use a scan tool, to me, is the same as watching Jim Harbaugh in a room teaching the Michigan Football team the plays, instead of watching the game being played. I prefer watching Eric O "play the game." I could watch one-a-day like this, like the subframe replacement, like the gas pump replacement. Thanks again.
Algorithm comment. Thanks for taking us along, Mr. O.
Oh, and please don't worry about having a fan/AC on when you do your summer vids, Mr. O. We'd rather put up with a few jerks complaining about the sound quality in the comments than go without our SMA videos.
Happy birthday Mrs. O🎉🎉🎉🎉
I was waiting for that. "It's Me Again, Margaret"
In this heat? No ice cream stop? Wow! 😎
Why did you become a mechanic? Eric, if you hadn't become a mechanic, I wouldn't have anyone (except maybe Ivan) to watch on Sunday mornings while I am enjoying my coffee. I can't begin to tell you the innumerable ways our lives have been enriched by having known you. You walk around with a filing cabinet on your head, bud. As far as Toyotas breaking, I've heard there might be a few breaking these days. GREAT VIDEO!
A weedeater and some peach preserves sounds like something oit of a Ray Stevens song.
Thank you Mr.O for all the great videos you put out!
Glad you like them!
Fantastic as always, Eric. Makes me kinda nostalgic for that 08 Sienna we had when our kids were growing up. Took lots of Florida trips in it. That thing was a tank; I did replace the steering rack in it eventually...that was an adventure! Thanks as always, Eric!
"They break..." neighbor's Tundra had catastrophic engine failure on a road trip to Vegas last week. I was unaware of Toyota 's engine issues until I started researching this. Wow.
Is it one of the newer tundras? Newer V6 twin turbos have had issues. There have been older ones had have documented 1million miles on them.
@hughkoontz2166 - yes, he's only had it a year or two, bought it new, and now it's sitting at a Toyota dealer in the middle of the desert. Sucks.
That's a nice tool you go there Eric, it heats up metal without a flame, I need to give me one of those!
😊
The head of the holding spare tire mechanism has 5 points . That special socket is located in the truck on the passager side wall panel behind the access trap where the car Jack is.
Growing up in Maine, we used to say "There's two seasons here - Winter and 4th of July". It's pretty damned hot out here in Az right now too.
37 degrees! That thing is a monster! Good work as always.
Yeah, 37° in this temperature and humidity is pretty exceptional I thought. We have two seasons here also winter and construction...
@@SouthMainAuto I thought the seasons there are Salt and Construction... 🤔
@rawcado Nahh, I believe it's salt season year round around there. They salt the dirt roads to keep the dust down in summer, however that works.
That one is pretty clean underneath.
I'm facing the same problem with my brother's Sienna. Thanks for the insight....you always seem to come through in the nick of time!....Subscribed!
Wow super neat job Eric! Those locking clips are a cool design! Happy B-Day to the beautiful Mrs. O!
Happy Birthday Mrs O!
Happy Birthday Mrs O !!!
Down South you rarely see a vehicle with much rust. Great video on the AC job. You make it look easy because you're good at what you do.
"if it doesn't go there, it looks good there" thats going to be a mantra of mine moving forward!😊
Happy birthday Mrs. O.
Amazing detailed work definitely a car show winner 😂
Great job as always
Happy Birthday Mrs. O. and to many more!
Eric O. getting male THO at 37:48 🤣
Thanks for a great show! Looks like Toyota covers the lines better than the Dodge Grand Caravan! Happy Birthday Mrs. O!
I really appreciate you filming this stuff for us. We can learn from you and laugh at your jokes. Keep up the great work South Main Auto Team. Happy Birthday Vanessa.
Don't worry about the critics Eric, they can't do what you do! Think of it as random noise (like a creaky floor) because you know from experience what works & that's what counts.
Ahhhh, I was half expecting a little Fluid Film on the studs and nuts at each connection.
Oh well, still another job well done Mr. O. 🇺🇲
Happy Birthday Mrs. O
I think all of those Negative Nancys should open there own shop, start there own channel, spend 8 to 12 hours working every day and then comment!! It is always easier to say how you would do thing different when you are on the outside looking IN than be on inside looking out. Thanks for the great videos Mr. O !!
Just the other day I saw a high school graduate writing on her Mercedes back window Senors Rule! Yep,she's real good looking kid going off to college.
Some one told me they don't teach handwriting or spelling,or grammar anymore. What a waste of time,I guess.Whaddyya think of that
You make it look easy compared to a lot of other mechanics on CZcams .
I really enjoy watching your channel it is very detailed and fun to watch I am from Tennessee and we just took a trip to new York for my sons senior trip we stopped by your shop on our way out but unfortunately you were closed was really hopping to get to meet yall
Eric O’…On my Suburban the rear lines were hard to find and cost about $400 and then a difficult and costly installation. Like a year later I had a leak. A hole was rubbed through near the rear wheel. I cut out the section with the leak, and had the hole welded up. Then reinstalled the section with compression fittings. Still working fine!
Happy “25” year old birthday, Ms. O. You’re the sunshine of South Main Auto.
Cheer up Eric, the only critics on yutube are the slackers who don't know which end of the wrench to use. Anybody that's been under the car knows which language gets the job done. Experience baby yeah
Thanks for making the videos. I really enjoy them!!
Happy birthday, Mrs. Vanessa 🎉🎉 Mr. Eric O is blessed to have you!!!!
It’s always a good day when there is a new video from Mr. O!
You have the patience of a saint.
And the patients of a psychiatrist. Here in the comment section. 😂 (not you OP)
@5:03 Aluminum Oxide:
Works great glued to heavy duty paper!
😂
I am a commercial bldg air conditioning tech since 1986. I live in South Florida and I do not think I could survive all that cold weather in beautiful Avoca NY! We all get used to where we live I reckon.
Evacuate, Evacuate, Evacuate! Run that pump a couple of hours when a line has been leaking for who knows how long. Local shop replaced the lines on my wife's van. Only ran the pump for a half hour. Ac worked for a day. The next day the gauges were pegged! All it needed was for ALL OF THE MOISTURE to be boiled out.
Never new ac lines ran to the back of a caravan always thought it ran thru vent pretty cool. Another job well done Mr O.
Happy birthday Mrs O!
Happy Birthday Mrs. O.
Watching a long time on and off. You're the best. thanks for all the tips, lessons, and laughs.
Good job Eric! Watch all your video's. Great content.
I was amazed at very little rust in the undercarriage area. Maybe someone listened to you and had their car fluid filmed or something else.
Good ole A/C work. Especially on a hot (95 +) day. Machine's hooked up, engine's running, heat's pouring out from the engine bay, sapping the strength outa you, BUT you sit inside and AHHHHH. COOL MAN. The reward for all that work!
Good one Mr. O. Nice to see Mrs. O. I'm sure Luna's basking in the cool comfortable office.
I remember those hazy hot humid days in Massachusetts. 90 to 105 degrees, humidity at 70 to 95+ %. Ya. Not fun!
Happy Birthday Mrs. O!
I love the test drive through the farmlands of New York. Honolulu doesn’t have much agricultural land anymore.
Working on this the sienna I don't see rust like I do on American cars that you work on!
Good afternoon sir A nother job well done by our factory trained experts.
Same heat waves here are making it feel like my summer is slipping by cuz after a week working in the 90s I don't wanna do anything outdoors on the weekend.
Great job Eric looks great
Hope Mrs O has a grate birthday 🎉😅
My 2000 Sienna is running like a champ. Scotty believes in Toyota quality.
Another chilling adventure with SMA serious man of air conditioning😂
I can’t believe anyone would criticize your work! I can say that the vast majority if not all of your watchers wished they had their very own Eric O. to work on their cars!
I have a '13 Sienna and I had to do this same repair. It was leaking right at that junction under the van. However, rather than replace the lines, I cut out the bad section and spliced in a repair kit. Waayy easier and cheaper than buying new lines. That was 3 years ago. It still blows ice cold today, no leaks. I also did the same repair on my wife's Escalade and made a how-to video on my channel, check it out!
Always remember every "tool has a hammer side". Cheers from the desert SW USA!
Mrs O you are a stunning 29! Happy Birthday!🎉
Happy birthday Mrs. O
A testament to Toyota ability to repair. Then other US brands only plan of obsolescent. Peace DVD:)
Great Repair, Eric! Had the AC Repaired on an 08 Highlander a few years ago and the Entire Dash has to come out to Replace. Was well worth the $’s to Repair it. 🤔👍
