  • One of Chicago's busiest railroad junctions, Blue Island sees trains from CSX, UP, BNSF, CN, CP, Iowa Interstate and Indiana Harbor Belt, with Metra crossing overhead. Blue Island was the home of the last manually operated grade crossing tower in the USA, until the tower's closure and demolition in June of 2013. Check out our website at www.traintapes.com

    I was there many many times in the 50's & 60's. The grade crossing was always busy, had cars lined up for blocks. But as a young railfan, I thought it was GREAT!

    The tower didn’t come down till November of 2017
