  • Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia, says the country may lose its chance of EU membership over the 'foreign agent' law, which she opposes, passed by the country's government. Critics of the bill have compared it to something from Putin's Russia. Zourabichvili speaks with Bloomberg's Francine Lacqua about the ongoing protests in Georgia.

What is the actual issue here? The law itself, or the way that the EU and the US are using it as a threat? I'd bet all of my worldy possessions, that if we went to the square right now, and asked the first ten protestors we came across, they woundn't be able to tell us the details of this law, or a single way in which it would affect them directly. They also would be surprised to learn that they US already has a similar law; only much stricter. So why are people calling it "the Russian Law", and not the "American Law"? This is how the catastrophe is Ukraine strated ten years ago. Exactly the same way. Eerily so. I strongly suggest that Georgians who care about their nation Google the document: "Expanding Russia", produced by the Rand Corporation. Not an avid reader? Start with Chapter 4, Geoploitical Measures. Your future has been outlined there in black-and-white.

The issue is that the Saakashvili lot want a color revolution, they want to sell Georgia to the West.

of course she will... she is very pro EU - but president in Georgia, is a much more symbolic position: she is limited in what she can do, and she may not be able to prevent it - best bet is the October elections

The law is a very good idea and will hopefully fully pass in the next two weeks.
