    I’m a “use the sponge until it gets all nasty and clogged and then rip it off and use the rest of it with out the sponge” person 😅 also, I think you do lose a lot of the product based on how much does dry in the sponge... hard to recreate in a video but this was a good place to start. In the lab, when we use scales like this it is advisable to not push on to the weighing platform because the force pushing on the scale can cause the reading to deviate from the actual reading. For future videos, it’s better to scoop whatever’s on the sponge with any utensil and plop it onto the scale. That way yall can get a more accurate outcome. Love your videos btw!

      They would have to go to a lab or get some biochemical tests and an incubator to do that. It would be cool but these ladies probably wouldn't do that. And it is basically a guarantee that your skins bacteria would transfer to the sponge. I would hope the product would have a bit of a antimicrobial to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold 😖

    • @dakotab.7244
      @dakotab.7244 Před 5 lety +17

      @@Sanmarachella they could probably drop a well-used sponge (or piece of a bigger one like a Beauty Blender) into some broth, incubate it, and do a turbidity (aka cloudiness) test to get a rough idea. that said most of our skin's bacterial species are friendly and not harmful - and even acne bacteria is hard to culture so it probably isn't surviving too well on our sponges unless they're super gross :)

    • @kristinc1349
      @kristinc1349 Před 5 lety +46

      The second you swipe that sponge across your face it’s going to be loaded with bacteria...normal flora and, potentially, infectious bacteria. Your skin is crawling with it. It’s no different than a beauty blender...which is cleaned but not necessarily disinfected.
      It would be better to plate it on agar...like a Nutrient agar see if you can, at least, grow some bacteria. You could incubate it at room temp...because the sponges sit at room temp....so if the sponge has bacteria, it should grow.
      I don’t think it would prove anything unless you can find something infectious like Staph A. If you were looking for that you’d need to use a different agar and incubate it overnight...then isolate it and do tests to prove it’s infectious.
      From your friendly, neighborhood, microbiologist.

      Ivanica I love this concealer but like you I don't wear makeup everyday. Without the sponge I found that the top bit of concealer does dry up. It gets hard and I also have to twist it more than with the sponge on and then wait for the product to come out and by that time too much comes out. Because the very top layer is hardened a bit I'm assuming that's why it takes so long. I think it's better to keep the sponge on in our case.

    An alternative theory from someone who uses the sponge - I feel like the concealer is so thin that you don't need a whole lot of it so keeping the sponge on, I'm not twisting it up everytime I need product and I find that the sponge speads the perfect amount on; whereas I'm wondering if going no sponge you have to twist up product everytime you use it and end up putting it on a sponge to apply anyways? I see both sides, I like the ease of application and that's why I keep the sponge but it does get manky towards the end

    should have weighed the unused sponge vs. a sponge that's had the product run through it AND ALSO was squished out like you would on the face. In this experiment you didn't quite get as much product out of the sponge as most people on a budget would

    I love both methods tbh! Something to keep in mind though is if you travel, when heated it pushes out the product so it can get messy without the sponge. I personally find that the sponge application is much smoother for me but I prefer no sponge application for eye make up and carving eyebrows.

    id bought his concealer about a year or so ago (as everyone hyped this concealer), and i used it with the sponge however i didn’t really like it as it was quite dry and cakey looking. but then i ripped of the sponge and suddenly the concealer looked so much better on my skin! it didn’t look cakey at all and it was so much easier to get product out! so yeah i would recommend taking the sponge off for more product + a less cakey look :)

    I’ve loved the foundation one as concealer for years when it first came out because of the sponge and use in my car I thought getting it on me at all. When they came out with the concealer it was that much better having both. I didn’t think anyone else did this but for my makeup on the go I have the sponges but for my makeup at my beauty counter I do have the sponge removed from each because I have a glass palette I use for other liquids as well. I thought I was the only one who ever ripped out the sponge but good to know my travel with me daily makeup ones barely lose any product on the sponge versus home.
    I love your channel and how both of you continue to educate us on beauty items, and to tell the truth even exposing hot products just because they look pretty or cute may not be legal with how much they are supposed to be giving us in product. I truly love how honest you are with those reviews to be true to the fans and subscribers like me. There’s been several times I wanted to buy things but you ladies did a destroy and weighed video exposing how much you couldn’t use, or messy, or little useable product there was and even my fav was how terrible the product experience was for you and the textures being disgusting.
    As a consumer I love the humor and fun of your videos but do rely on them telling the truth if I’m looking to buy and the company is cheating customers and lying or they are a good product and like many you have reviewed they are over the limits they say which is basically free product and nice to know they have gone over to cover themselves with the places in the states that regulate that which is
    The Department of Weights and Measures which can then be filed with The Department of Consumer Affairs as well as The Better Business Bureau. These are 3 federal level branch departments that are all about the consumers interest and taking complaints, opening investigations, researching files or evidence provided to either force companies to recall, find the companies or provide the consumer with reports to the use as so,I’d evidence for the consumer to file a lawsuit.
    (Again these are only departments for people in the states/USA, I don’t know if they exist in countries like Australia or not but wanted consumers to know.)

    Great video 😄😄 I would just consider the fact, that when we use this concealer everyday, some amount of product dries on the sponge, and the next day another layer dries as well. I don’t know if that’d be the case, but I guess everyday use would waste more products on the sponge.
