      - gentler (less penetrative) than glycolic acid and others due to molecular size

    I shower in the mornings because I run in the mornings which means I do skin care in the mornings followed by sunscreen. I rarely wear any makeup so I just wash my skin with water at night. Would you still recommend skincare routine including exfoliating at night despite the morning showers? Plus I am super pale and live in Australia where the UV index is high year round.

    • @katek4275
      @katek4275 Před 5 měsíci +8

      I'd do your exfoliating at night because your body does a lot of cellular repair while you're sleeping, so there's more energy going into making healthy new skin. Vs during the day so much energy is expended moving, digesting, thinking, etc. After your workouts in the morning you could just wash with water or a gentle cream cleanser then sunscreen

    • @2ReBell3
      @2ReBell3 Před 5 měsíci +7

      If you’re wearing SPF (and I’m assuming reapplying throughout the day as you live in Aus), you’ll need to wash that off properly at night, not necessarily ‘exfoliate’, but a good cleanser.

    • @2ReBell3
      @2ReBell3 Před 5 měsíci

      @@khadijasdraftsit’s not recommended for most people as the retinol will leave your skin very sensitive and you’ll compromise your skin barrier. Depending on how experienced you are with retinol and if you’ve built up to it, I’d probably do retinol one night, then two nights later exfoliate? See how your skin reacts. Remember to hydrate lots!

After that i quit exfoliating because i was young and didn't need it plus the results that igot were not goodt. But a few months ago i got white heads and wanted to get rid of them so i started using a 3% pha tonner and ohhh it worked wonders. Lactic acid but isn't that useful for oily skin , doesn't matter if it brightens cuz of oily skin. I literally use 40% acid glycolic every week overnight. My skin is still oily and shines after 3 days of exfoliating .. salicylic+ glycolic is a better go i think .. as salicylic helps with pore cleansing which is a must for Oily skin not for dry right.. and dry skin should use lactic plus mild glycolic percentages but no use of salicylic 2% is enough.. so it all does depend.

    I have rosacea. I have yet to find an exfoliant that does not irritate, or a retinol for that matter. Any ideas? Please and thanks.

    • @ktkchu
      @ktkchu Před 5 měsíci +1

      i don't have rosacea so it's hard to say, but mandelic acid may be a gentle AHA. other suggestions i might try is adding a more moisturising cream after you apply an AHA, BHA or retinoid (something with ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids, occlusives), or using a cleanser based exfoliant or retinoid, or applying a cream/lotion exfoliant or retinoid for 30 seconds and then wash it off and finish with a moisturising cream like i suggested above. studies have shown products can penetrate our skin in as little as 30 seconds

      From AHAs, Mandelic acid is the most gentle, but actually PHAs are best for sensitive skin!

    Could you suggest glycolic acids brands for a 49yr old pale AF women who has combo/dry skin?
    I use or have tried to us various International brands but nothing with glycolic as it's main active.
    I bought the salicylic acid from The Ordinary and was using it on my T zone 2x a week. But then saw your short that salicylic as is counteracting actives for age spots and I use hydroquinone and tretinoin 3xs a wk. So I will switch to a glycolic acid and gift the salicylic to my sister.
