How To Beat Helena「Virgo」- Azur Lane - Extreme Challenge Mode

- What I originally thought was a really annoying battle ended up showing me a whole new fleet strategy: the HE/HVAR aircraft carrier fleet.
This was the best strategy I have found to beat this version of Helena. It provides a perfect balance of damage, damage types, and healing. The whole reason I used carriers instead of battleships was because shelling counts as cannon damage, which is the easiest to deal to her, which means she resists it most of the time. I used this to my advantage by using aircraft carriers in the main fleet instead of battleships.

I tried my best to make this load-out a bit more accessible for everyone, but the extreme challenge mode is meant for mid-late game players.

Even as a day 1 player, this fight was tough.
I just hope that they don't keep increasing the difficulty, the monthly challenges are getting more and more difficult, and I can't even beat Jinstuu META.
@@LookIntoGamingday one player here, i was never able to beat the most dificult one, its insane, i destroyed the top siren on hard with just 2 floats yesterday, STOP, THIS IS INSANE

I tried this boss and this is the first time I actually want to phaking "oof myself" because of the rage (ran out of time like 4-5 times I can't remember, but finally beat her at sep29th), other hardmode EXes didn't made me rage that much (maybe cuz this is one of the rare times I actually have to use a guide for Azur Lane)
Edit: I actually had to make a change to the vanguard fleet, replacing Shimakaze with Plymouth for extra chances of Helena popping off cannon defense and because she's tankier than DDs

I am level 141 and get by all these challenges and ex stages by the skin of my teeth.
No matter what I tried 20% short on damage
EDIT: Okay after reviewing my setup, I realized that I made a very stupid mistake. Me-155 instead of Bf-109.
Counting to 4 after each gun defense activation helped as well (probably)

I copied your build for the most part but I had to swap in AvPs Me-109s since I didn't have enough HVARs to fit everyone and I swapped Aquila out for Chkalov armed with her signature DBs. I barely finished the fight but I finished it.

That's why I suggested the other planes, the Bf109 is the second best fighter, and the tenrai and su-2 are other dive bomber options
Trying this and replacing Aquila with Enty,i need a damned 8 minutes,this is really are a hard mode
And I use 6 airstrike at once

I also replaced her with Enterprise for the Jintsuu META fight. So far this has not been the hardest challenge mode, but it required the most strategy.

Both the extreme challenge mode and META bosses get more difficult each month, which makes the fights both more fun and more annoying to figure out and beat.
really? i personally found san diego Much harder than this fight
San Deigo was more of an endurance fight, Helena took more strategy, so I found Helena to be harder to beat, but San Deigo was more annoying to beat.

I was hoping they would be added in one of the shops sometime for players who didn't get them (or enough) from the Yorktown II event.
Didn't work, 40-35 bars left with 120-125 ships and level 10-13 gear. Probably need A BUNCH of carrier tech.
Potentially. Sadly, this is the only fleet I could find that worked well, I tried a HE battleship fleet with torpedo-heavy destroyers to trigger torpedo protection, but the battleships did so little damage, I don't think it could work.
Pretty sure you need your carriers to launch at around 20 seconds. Sadly I don't have much carrier tech and so my carriers are launching at around 22 seconds or so. I've been playing it on auto battle and the closest I got was down to 18 bars. At some point the protection from the enemy gets caught up with my carrier strikes and she gains aircraft protection for multiple minutes until it gets far enough away to where she regains the cannon protection from my vanguard but that's too late at that point. I've been using YT2, Enty, Implacable. My backline is basically as synced as it can be but I just can't launch fast enough.
@@Nicolas_Cage_Bees I changed my vanguard to An Shan, Chang Chun and Aurora (Seems like Aurora is mandatory to ppl with low tech) and timed my airstrikes to not give Helena aviation buff and managed to reach 3 bars left.
@@Star-ns9rp I just tried a manual BB fleet and did a little better, down to 13 health bars but still nowhere near enough. I have no clue how I'm going to do this one. I might not be able to. And I even found out I actually have more carrier tech than I thought at +13 reload but it's still not enough for me. My carriers don't reload fast enough for me to sync with Helena the whole fight so there's no point in using her. I might try using your method but I find that Aurora just dies if I don't have a dedicated tank like Agir, Plymouth, or Anchorage.

Normal mode can be beat with other fleets (even battleships) with brute force, you just need higher level ships. But sadly, the extreme challenge mode is meant mostly for late game players, so a huge portion of the player base can't beat it.

Doesn't help at all.
The carrier fleet is the best way to beat her, but if you can't beat the battle, try a fleet with the DDGs (An Shan, Chang Chun) with pure oxygen torpedoes for 20s rocket reloads. Aurora is another good vanguard pick. You can also try carriers in the main fleet, but if you can adapt her damage to anything besides shelling, a battleship main fleet is really good (Bismarck Zwei, Ulrich Von Hutten, and Vanguard work the best with HE guns).
