Really enjoyed this video. Also, the Christmas music throughout, in April, actually made me feel quite festive!
hahahah.. I really didn't know that's Christmas music.. but.. shooting film.. everyday feel like Christmas, right? lol~
@@itscapturedbysam Absolutely it does…It’s expensive, you get to unwrap something and then enjoy it! I’m so happy I’ve found your channel - it’s a breath of fresh air for sure.
This is the first of your videos I've seen. It's a nice change of pace for me.
Glad you enjoy it :)
Really powerful images! Nice work Sam!
Thank you ☺️
Your videos are always fun to watch, they feel light and airy which is refreshing when compared to so many other film / photography content creators. I don't shoot "motion picture" film stock very often - and when I do I use the CineStill chemicals to develop it and have had good results. I also occasionally shoot it, usually due to the higher ISO and usually in tungsten form as if you shoot scenes with lots of soft blue/greys it gives a real "abandoned" and post-apocalypse feel to the pics. I shot several scenes in empty parking garages and under-construction buildings during the afternoon warm sun and it was an interesting effect / feel to the shots. Thanks for sharing your work!
10:45 Oh, Sam! This is my favorite shot here. It’s so beautiful! Great work as always
Thank you :)
Always a pleasure to see a video from you. Very well explained and very inspiring 😃
Thank you ☺️
The model is stunning❤
Thank you for the introduction of "motion picture" film. Great video.
Besides any film quality comments, your model is absolutely gorgeous
I always enjoyed your photo shoot but this portrait session is by far the best. ❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
This is your first video I’ve seen, and it’s terrific.
I was surprised how cool your photos are, given it’s on tungsten balanced film. No filters used?
Not disappointed at all at your 35mm pics, I thought they looked nice.
Your model is gorgeous!
Nice work!
My friend told me another easy way to balance the image quality, using iso 320 during daytime and iso 800 at night.
With the 5219 film
You dont need a filter when scanning because you can just fix the WB with the eyedroper. I wonder why this is such a foreign concept for film photographers. For printing in a darkroom it would be advisable to use the filter while shooting.
Uh, the reason it looks cool is that daylight is at least 5000K, that's why the iconic 85B filter was invented. Cinematographers use the 85B OUTDOORS, always.
I love your top quality videos so much
Glad you like them!
Ready to start shooting motion picture film again after watching this 🙌
yeah~ it’s always fun to try new things!! 👏🏻
Silent Night was a nice touch 😌
lol.. at first I was like ???... then I realize Silent Night is the music...
always enjoy your photo style.
Thank you ☺️
Love these pictures! :)
Thank you ☺️
You have no idea how much I appreciate these videos as a fellow film shooter! I know it takes a lot of time and effort to shoot these videos and edit them while shooting film which by itself takes a lot of effort. Big appreciation and love from Korea!! ps. that horrifying feeling when you can advance the film after 38+ shots... it goes from "lesgooo I can take a few more shots" to "holy shit did I not load the film properly and shot all my pics in vain" really quick
☺️ thank you for watching !!
The way you belittle yourself, with comments about second guessing, is charming and quite funny. You have a genuine, adorable personality.
Here’s an old school tip: after putting the film in, crank once, then tighten the film spool so that the rewind knob rotates every time you advance.
Really nice video, excellent photos and gorgeous model! Now I’m inspired to try it myself. I’m not a fan of halation, so I haven’t used any of the films with the protective layer removed. I really like the natural and muted colours this film gives. Looking forward to your next video 😊
I like the halation when shooting VERY specific vibe 😂, the motion picture film is definitely more universally good for everything, and it’s meant to be heavily color edited in post, so it’s more muted.. from my understanding… definitely worth trying, just a bit more expensive processing ECN2 😂
@@itscapturedbysam In my country (Finland), ECN2 processing is surprisingly only 10% more expensive, but sourcing the cinema film will be a challenge :D
Your model is so beautiful.
Very interesting !! Thank !!
Amo tus fotos y videos y tu forma de hablar. Saludos desde Argentina
Thank you.. gracias 😊
You can try those that has remjet already removed and can be processed by c41, they sell cheaper than Cinestill too
I wish one day i can be able to shot portraits as beautiful as yours ❤️😭 love your work so much!
Thank you ☺️!!
I really love the picture at 13:12 ⭐️
And the one at 13:50 is very special. 😂
Thank you :)
te amo sam
Enjoying your journey with film, reminds me back in the day, but because of film going up in price, I now (5 years) shoot digital, Fuji . Btw, great job and your model was absolutely stunning! Cheers!
Thank you :)
Really fan of your videos and your pictures. I'm not sure if we have that film stock in Spain, but is good to know it exists
You may not have Alien Film but I’m sure you’ll be able to find another variant of the same film, just respooled by a different company. Just look for 500T / Kodak 5219 film online.
@@darrengodssonfielding cool, thank you!
Sam, one major difference between 65/70mm "motion picture" stock is that this is unusual, like LF sheets they have an anti-halation layer, and is a special stock, NOT for projection!, but filming, a weaker base to allow breakage of the FILM, NOT the camera if something goes wrong (as in movie cameras they are $$$$$$ esp. if you talk ARRI, Panavision, etc.); these types of camera are what the stock is designed for; and as such needs it's own process in the darkroom (C-41\E-6 can't deal with this stock); you deal with it by rem-jet washing to remove the halation layer, then focus on different colours, one metal ion at a time, like staining a slide in biology, or LF B&W sepia/platinum prints each chemical needs its own process exchanging silver iodide, for the others in turn.
I see.. I'm really curious of it's color potential, there is so much to learn about these~
Reflex lab is my favorite motion film 😁
Priceless shots. Do you use flash at all?
OK, inspired to shoot motion picture film now 😁
it's always fun to try new things!!
Nice video! I would like to add that there are a few colour negative film makers in Europe still, such as adox and harman(ilford). :) I, too, love Kodak, but if all of the competition dies then there will be no real competition holding kodak prices down. :O
i really love the vide in ur video ^_^
Thank you ☺️
I'm heading out today to shoot some Cinestill 800T in the daytime with no orange filter. 🤞
Funny think I never thought to use an orange filter, coz I always thought if I'm shooting with this stock, I'm going for that blue tone~ but that's just me though..
Am in China, I will try this. Thanks for the review.
Nice. Whereabouts in China? I’m currently in Wuxi, but was in Hangzhou for 7 years prior.
照片拍的很好看!
我超級喜歡用電影底片的!可是我每次很猶豫拍500T(因為覺得還不如直接用800T)電影底片 200T 可能是我最喜歡的 哈哈
挺多人说800T其实就是500T LOL 我还没试过200T呢 有机会试试看~
我也覺得800T 好像是有改過的500T, 但是我還是不敢把500底片設定為800 哈哈!但是顏色很像
500T is great. There's really no cheap alternative for Portra right now, Lomo's the same price. UltraMax is still my favorite cheaper film for $9
No.. and I don’t think it can ever replace Portra.. the C41 process is so much easier
Nice pictures sam! Where to get this film stock? Thx Tom
I bought these in China, not sure if they sale it here in the US... but I'm sure you can search Kodak Vision 3 500t, and see if you have anyone re-spooled them locally~
Sam your work always is exciting, very beautiful gaze you have//// I want to ask you also if there is a way to get these medium format film rolls out of China, or is it possible to order them to Mexico? thx
This specific lab I got from, maybe not… but you can check out Reflx lab… they have an online store~
@@itscapturedbysam thanks a lot Sam
Did you use a warming filter like an 85B when shooting outside in daylight
No I didn’t.. I actually never tried it, make me wonder how much of difference it will make 🤓
Where to buy
120mm looks so good (maybe your model also helped with it :) i hope this video blows up and respooling 500t on 120mm gets a little more popular. there are so many options to get 35, but i couldnt find respooled 120mm in europe (recs welcome)
I didn’t see yet too, even in a big shops. 35mm is still ruling
You can check out my website if you’re based in the UK. I have some 50D, 250D and 500T available in 120. I only have a small amount left and then I will be doing another pre-order window in May/June. Google thisishowirollfilm. I did link it earlier but my comment disappeared
I have tried posting this comment 3 times now 😂
I sell kodak vision3 on my website (thisishowirollfilm) in 120 format. Only got a small amount left before I need to do another pre order window. Im based in the UK, but looking at sorting it out to post to Europe
what are the socials of your model?
my favorite photo 6:48
Did you use 85B filter on lens to correct color in daylight ?
no I did not
What was the sccanner used, did you scan your own or using the lab's scanner? Did you get the file in Log or it has been balanced?
I said it in the video, the films are developed and scanned by the Lab, I only adjust the contrast and saturation a bit..
@@itscapturedbysam looks cool. thank you
Looks great, i also shoot motion picture films and they are like boom .. is it Ecn2 develped?
Yes these are ECN2 developed.. I wanted to try C41 development with this type of film and just to see what’s the difference~ I heard it’ll be more contrasty~
@@itscapturedbysam yes for sure but also more grains it give different look
@@itscapturedbysam i send to you some c41samples for 50d
watched, thanks for your sharing, but i m quite sure to say it's not about the film itself, it's about the lens...
Is there a web site where we can buy this film? Especially the 120!
This specific brand I’m afraid no, but you can check out Reflxlab.com , they respool ECN2 films as well~
Do they respool Vision3 50D as well?
only in 35mm
I just want to say that even tho I'm subscribed to you, I can't find your video in my notifications! Yt is lacking!
I’m glad you still saw this video~ ☺️
I need a link to this film omgggg
I bought these in China... but I'm sure you can search Kodak Vision 3 500t, and see if you have anyone re-spooled them locally where you are at..
I really loved your images Sam. Whereabouts in China are you from? 你来自哪里?I’ve shot a whole bunch of respooled motion picture film, and I feel very fortunate to live here in China and have access to all the film stocks here. That’s why I do my #filmstocktryouts and share my thoughts & results .
我是河南哒~ 🤓
i tryed to find this film on ali express... cant find it =(
Taobao would be a better bet.
Otherwise you could search Reflx Lab, they do respool motion picture films too~
I am not sure about cheaper. Most labs will not develop film with remjet so I would not be getting these films for that reason alone. Seattle film works is remjet film and the reason you had to send it back to them for developing. It gunked up c41 machines and ruined some.
I've heart the same story, people who dose not know the difference sent these type of film for regular c41 process and ruined the lab's processor... and what I've talked about in the end, developing ECN-2 is definitely more expensive here in the US, that's why I waited this long to try this..
Sam is attracted to cold cloudy days. I need to note that down.
Where can I buy this film?
Taobao or Aliexpress
Where are you buying this film???
I bought these from China, if you google Kodak Vision 500T you might find somebody local who respool this film~
Cinema films are normally flat as they would be usually colour graded
That’s what I kinda figured.. 🤓
TRY FUJI EXPERIAAAA
I have an expired roll, I’ve been waiting for a good chance to shoot it~ they are so rare nowadays 🥹
Where can i get this film? Lol
Could try Reflx Labs
@@itscapturedbysam thank you 😊
Fuji just announced they are bringing back two film stocks! Made in china
10:55 Noooo! I want this smile to be captured, not the bokeh
I can see that.. 😂
The 't' in 'often' is silent.
If you're going to be pedantic at least be correct. Both pronunciations are correct.
your model looked really sad
I really don't like click-bait titles. 500T does not remotely look like Portra. Maybe your film scanner's algorithm could do its best to make the colors look similar by digital manipulation, but if you use DSLR scanning, you will know they can't be less different.
My notes on why all films look incredible before digital cameras were introduced and made them all look clinical and boring. The quick evolution of Kodak motion picture film and movies which were shot on them:
Eastmancolor Negative ECN 1982-1986
Back to the future
E.T
Edward scissorhands
Ghostbusters
Raiders of the lost ark
Taxi
EXR 1989-1996
A league of their own
Blow
Casino
Fight Club
Kill Bill 1-3
Kodak Vision 1996-2002
Alice in wonderland
Brother where art thou
Catch me if you can
Gangs of New York
Kodak Vision2 2002-2007
Inglorious Basterds
The Dark Knight
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
There will be blood
True Grit
Kodak Vision3 2007- present
Dark knight rises
Django Unchained 5213/5219 200T/500T
Grand Budapest Hotel 5213 200T
Moonrise Kingdom
Once upon a time in Hollywood 5213/5219 200T/500T
The Hateful Eight 5203/5213/5207/5219
which are all basically
50D or 250D
100T / 200T/ 500T
check out midwest film CO. which uses a motion picture scanner and gives you back your images completely flat for you to color grade. around $20 per roll to develop + scans
I'm curious to know about the Pentax Camera that you used and also the lens?
I have a video here in my channel talking about the Pentax 67II, you can go check it out if you’re interested ☺️~
Priceless shots. Do you use flash at all?
No.. all natural light
