    I would like to make it clear that this is in no way an anti-Ravelry video. Ravelry is an awesome resource and I have made many videos that feature it. I decided to include "that are not Ravelry" in the title because I figured if I failed to mention Ravelry then the comments would be full of people recommending Ravelry LOL! If there is one thing I love it is more information and there are so many awesome knitting resources on the internet that I wanted to share some of them. But if you are new here and you haven't heard of Ravelry - make sure to check it out as well! But be aware that they are having some difficulties with their current design causing sensory issues in people (like nausea, headaches, and migraines).

      I do cakes but mainly because I have a swift and winder and it is faster (handwinding takes a long time). If you were going to buy one piece I would buy a swift before I bought a winder. You can hand wind or use a winder off a swift, but a winder by itself isn't particularly useful.

      I would need to clarify what you mean by "knitting left handed". Do you simply mean tensioning the yarn in your left hand ie: Continental knitting? Or do you mean being a left handed knitter and truly mirror knitting? I am a right handed, Continental knitter. Most left handed knitters I know simply learn to knit the traditional way. You have to use both hands to knit so really it's a wash.

    Hi Barbara. Thx so much for the info. I hv bookmarked all of these. I hv been looking for a device or technique that will help me in keeping 2 strands of yarn (holding dbl) positioned in such a way that the preferred colorway always shows on top. I do a lot of color manipulation when I work with heavily verigated yarns. I hvnt been able to find anything that deals with this. When I search “holding dbl strands,” I always come up with something to do with fair isle or some other type of color work. But I digress, I am happy for more research materials to continue my search.

    Hi Barbara many of your videos have awesome and very helpful information and helped a lot, do you have a third lesson on how to understand reading patterns couse I'm stuck where it says repeat 24th row, rows 1to 24 incl form patt.
    Con in pattuntill work measures, do I need to do 24 rows again? I'm still learning thank you so much for sharing your helpful information many thks 💐

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  Před 3 lety

      There is not a third video yet because there are just so many different ways designers provide instructions. I'm afraid that I would just be guessing at the answer to your question unless I could see the whole pattern and understand the context. Con in patt means continue in pattern, so if the 24 rows create the pattern than I would guess yes, you need to do rows 1 - 24 again and again until you reach the desired length.

      Crochet is awesome, I just can't do it well enough to make a video LOL. Thank you so much for watching, I am sure you will pick up knitting quickly. I find most crocheters can (personally, I think crochet is way harder LOL).

    Great video - I know now how I will be spending my weekend 🤣
    Any book recommendations and other youtube channels to view for techniques? My favorite resources: (1) I love older books aka anything by Barbara G. Walker, Ann Budd’s The Knitter’s Handy Book of Knitting Patterns, and Nancie Wiseman’s The Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techniques to name a few. (Maybe a segment on how big is your knitting library stash) (2) other than your great content (you always put a smile on my face with your infectious humor), I love “Knitting with Suzanne Bryan” - great channel for learning techniques.

      I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I don't spend a lot of time with knitting tutorials on CZcams LOL. But I know Very Pink Knits has just about everything you can imagine tutorial wise. It's one of the reasons I don't do a lot of tutorials ... there are so many out there. When I need to figure out a new technique I usually just search CZcams for it and watch several videos of varying quality until it makes sense to me.

    Hello Barbara, I love watching you. I'd love to learn knitting but haven't found good virtual classes. I signed up at Udemy, Annie's but not totally satisfied. Do you offer virtual classes? If so, how can I sign up. Thank you for your help.

      I teach Zoom classes through my local yarn store but they aren't really "learn to knit" classes. I have contemplated using something like Udemy to do classes, but the work involved is daunting and I don't know if it would be financially worth my investment in time and money. The best way to find out about upcoming live Zoom classes is to either join the Watch Barbara Knit Facebook group or sign up for my very sporadic newsletter.

    Thank you so much for putting this video together. I go to the politicized community of knitters that it not a community, and make all my purchases from the personal websites of the designers featured there. Webs' yarn.com has renamed Navaho Red to Brick Red as though it is wrong to honor the Navaho culture for their beautiful artistry. That is only one example I found there. I hear rumors that the backlash has begun, may it come swiftly and save us all from this evil of division in the name of unity.

    I’m struggling with sewing together baby booties. I tried over & nearly 70times and was on it for 15 hrs a day. I kid you not!! Now I couldn’t sew it up and ruined it by trying to much threading and pulling it out.. I struggled sewing up headbands as well. I think it’s time to hang the needles up and move on.

      I am so sorry. Instead of hanging the needles up you might want to consider trying some patterns that don't require sewing up. Just because one technique is giving you fits at your current skill level doesn't mean that there aren't other things out there you could knit! Try a scarf or a dishcloth to get your feet wet.
