I recall John the day of this game telling us to watch...Shane brought the skates in , with the story of wanting them signed by Stan Smyle, and Scott had the hockey stick down the leg of his pants walking with a limp...good ole Burnaby John pulled it of!!...
I went to high school with him. He told me on the bus that day that he was going to jump on the ice. No one believed him so me and some friends bet him a case of beer each. We all lost the bet. It was surreal to see live on tv that nite. I remember the local news came to interview him the next day at school. He did the interviews from the principals office. Can't believe this video was uploaded.
I play drop in hockey with John and he still plays defense the same way -- by hanging out at the redline and waiting for the breakaway pass. JK, love ya buddy!
It is a dicey situation for Peeters. If Peeters tries to stop John and ends up getting deked, Peeters looks pretty bad. On the other hand if Peeters simply stands there and lets him score then John gets his goal and he is a hero.
This is legendary, if this happened today, it would be all over TSN and on Pardon The Interruption. It would get more media attention than that guy who skated on the ice for practice with the Canadiens.
@@arielvillaverde8813 you'r probably right. These days the networks don't want to show any shenanigans in case it encouraged more of them. Too bad, boring era.
I’ve been looking for this video for years... can’t believe I found it so easy this time around🤷♂️
What an awesome find! In today's age networks wouldn't have shown these type of incidents(Thank you Sports Maine!) ;)
Great footage. He was interviewed on local radio about this spectacular performance about 10 years ago.

Peeters was almost obliged to let him score ;) The Coliseum crowd wouldn't have let him get outta there alive. lol!
