  • Let's go to the Eastgate Mall (Cincinnati, Ohio) sports card show on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
    The TripleCrown24 CZcams channel is focused around one dealer's journey through the hobby via card shows, discourse with fellow hobbyists, and grading submission reveals. Today's video recaps the buy/sell/trade transactions from my most recent card show.

    Interestingly enough I had a dealer at the same show try to convince to buy a card for 500 cash and gave me this whole story of how he doesn’t like doing eBay because he’s too lazy. Mentioned recent comps were around 800 then kinda double talked and admitted the market on said player had come down. Actual comps on exact card are around 370, so good advice to do your own research. Whether it’s unintentional or malicious, you are the only one who is going to look out for yourself.

    A buyer once made me a lowball offer and said last sale was this and it was like a month ago. Without checking I messaged him back and said no the last sale of the card was mine yesterday for 4x. He didn’t know that I had two of those cards and sold the same one yesterday for a lot more. Then shyly he was like oooh cool you had two of these! Later ended up just giving him a deal and later he still complained about my shipping. Some ppl are just like that

    Do. Your. Own. Research. No matter the card. No matter the dealer. Have an idea what range you are willing to buy/sell/trade. Period. It is their job to sell. They will have all the excuses loaded up. If it isn’t in your range move on. See how much they want/need the sale.

    They are all like that. I had a guy value a josh allen donruss blue press proof at 180. So I got together a comparable package of cards. He wouldn't budge and i had 1 card that did comp at 150 but i added another gold crunch time/10 cant remember who it was. Anyway i do the deal and then looked up that card and it was 90/100 dollars tops. That was my first ever and last ever card show. Every table i went to they had comps at 200% to comps. Most when i showed them comps they still wouldn't budge. That tells me that they plan on getting someone else on them

      If a dealer wants 100 for 50 Dollar card, it just tells me he isn't doing biz with me. Don't be afraid to tell other collectors there and maybe he will get the idea to be fair (but I doubt that). he knows what he is doing:(

    Nice vlog JT. Highly enjoying these videos. In regards to the dealer being $400 over on the purple CJ, I would have told him the correct price it sold for, after double checking when he told you it sold for $800. Assuming he didn't understand the best offer feature, his reaction to that news might have made his intentions more clear. I've done that dance before with dealers at shows, most don't know and it's an accident or oversight on their part but of course there are also some that do and look to grift.

    • @TripleCrown24
      @TripleCrown24  Před 7 měsíci

      That would've been a good idea, Ed. I truly believe it was ignorance based on the rest of the conversation, but it's kinda sad if it was an attempt grift.

    • @WeskerGriff
      @WeskerGriff Před 7 měsíci

      @@jcbuckeye There is a subsection of dealers who set up at shows (mostly smaller shows like mall ones) who don't do nothing with eBay and only sell in person. Most of these dealers are older and are old school. I've found from my experience that most of them either don't like using comps on eBay or don't understand the actual sold price if the best offer option is accepted.

    • @jcbuckeye
      @jcbuckeye Před 7 měsíci

      @@WeskerGriff no way a card dealer don't know how eBay comps work. The biggest tool for pricing your inventory. If they say otherwise they are lying. All of them are shady. The whole "hobby" is shady honestly. Even if there is a decent one every now and again they won't survive

    Love how alot of lowball type buyers say the dealers are terrible at all these shows yeah get the most for your money but if the stickers is too good to pass on bundle bulk deals then pay sticker on bigger cards with the cheaper bundle dealers will give u better deals on mid range bundles when u pay close to highest comp on the bigger pieces people here acting like they know how to deal I just walk up and bundle and buy trade no haggle no ebay comps fuck eBay

      @ogmarko1708 no u don't man when u use market data with ebay factored in I don't play the absolute lowest comp and highest comp bullshit cause it's usually half of a high anyways that it would sell for unless u get the collector paying what they wanna pay if I feel a sticker price is in range of what im willing to pay I buy fuck ebay tho as god of the hobby been at it 30 years and won't sell unless I get my asking or within a 75 to 80% range of what I have in a card its not rocket science

      I'm going to guess you didn't watch the full video, I make offers on several cards and ended up buying everything I made an offer on. In the first minute of the video, I state that I'm trying to restock from the previous show where I was set up and sold through most of what I had. I'm not looking to make offers "well below comps", but I'm also not trying to pay $800 on a card that I could've gone out on eBay and bought for $200 less without making an offer.
