I am a massive fan of the hybrid technology from Ryobi, it is a design that very few other tool companies offer and is something that makes many of Ryobi's tools so unique. Example you say? How many propane heaters out there can run off an 18v battery or a wall plug?!!

      The top uses a standard 18volt attachment. The tripod is just a power convertor system that converts the 40volt DC and AC 120volt systems to DC 18volt. So any standard 18volt tool can likely fit the top. So no need for a special device

    It's about time they had two battery power. I always wonder why can't ryobi make all their tools as versatile as this. They're not stupid. The knowledge to make them versatile could've been done in the 20th century. But they have to keep upgrading them to make money

    • @user-pm1eq1kk6d
      @user-pm1eq1kk6d Před měsícem +2

      they're saving you money by not adding multi battery support on every tool. it only works on a light because of the low power draw. If a drill had to be 40V compatible it'd be huge and also require robust electronics to deal with the huge power dump of the 40V pack. They're not stupid, you're right.

      Theres a bult in converter that converts 120v ac or 36v dc to 18v dc. It has a current limit which is why it's limited to lights and speakers. Shoehorn a vacuum onto this thing and you'll probably start a fire. Dewalt and metabo hpt got the mutlivolt systems right, but it required having am 18v platform made in the last 15 years with a spare pin for the higher voltage tools to communicate that would just be blank on the 18v tools.

  • @KillerRaptorr
    @KillerRaptorr Před měsícem +1

    It's a Tri-Power pole. Not Tri-power light. See the fun info on this pole. Is the base converts whatever system to 18volts DC. Then the top is just a standard 18volt one+ tool attachment head. If you watch during the video you can see they removed the light into a handheld mode and slapped a standard 18volt one+ on it. Then later down they attached their 18volt one+ speaker to the top.
    Still nice idea. That 40volt base function will give much more run time. Or run forever on AC power. But it's still generally a 18volt One+ Tool since the top tip is a 18Volt One+ tool attachment point including the light it'll come with.

    • @KillerRaptorr
      @KillerRaptorr Před měsícem

      You 'CANNOT' hook AC while a 40v or a 18volt battery is plugged in. It blocks the port for the AC prong. And even if you 'tried' That be stupid.
      No matter which battery or AC you use though all tools connected to the top are powered at 18volts. So the pole is a power brick in such to convert the output voltage from 40v DC or 120volt AC down to 18volts DC. If you watch the video at the end you can see the top is just a standard 18volt attachment. So basically any 18volt tool can sit on the top.

  • @james2042
    @james2042 Před měsícem

    Now make more 40v hand tools so that way there's a reason to carry 40v batteries in the field, like miter saws, recip saws, table saws, demo hammers, (big) air compressors, grinders, belt sanders, thickness planners and that's what I can think of off the top of my head. I can guarantee you 95% of people who buy this will only be using 18v batteries or cord. I even own 40v batteries and wouldn't likely use them on this because anywhere I was bringing this I'd only ever have 18v or wall power
    Almost makes me wish ryobi made a dual voltage platform like dewalt and metabo hpt did. Then this special tri-power nonsense wouldn't be necessary. I get a 24ah 18v battery would just be silly, but it would have made integration of the 2 platforms so much easier

    • @KillerRaptorr
      @KillerRaptorr Před měsícem

      You know Dewalt doesn't make dual voltage batteries right? That is a partner company Flexvolt. Nor does dewalt have any tools that use 2 different voltages at same time. That's just their partners batteries that fit in similar form factor. Problem with Ryobi doing same. Is cause they have two completely different battery rigs. The old slot up battery and the large 40volt slide in battery style. So it's kinda impossible for them to create a dual battery voltage system from a battery. And most of their devices using the Hybrid line of DC and AC need convertors for the AC to drop it down to 18volts. It's not a simple deal in some points to add that function so easily. And in most cases here you're not gaining any more 'Power' between 18volt and AC 110volts. Because they are DECONVERTING the AC 110volt current all the way down to 18volts DC. Only thing you're gaining is forever power from the house. No increased performance whatsoever.
      Now the thing with this with a 40volt is doing exactly same deal as other Hybrid tools. No special power boost. It's just extending runtime by bringing the 36/40volt line down to 18volts and increasing the 40volt overall AH by double.
      So say IE 18 + 18volts = 36volts IE 40volts. So if a single 18volt is 6ah. a single 40volt of a 3 ah = 18volts at 6ah. So a 6ah 40volt would be a single 12ah 18volt. Or say they slap a 12ah 40volt. That'd be a single 24ah 18volt.
      You won't get any special power bonus from the 40volt. Because the tripod deconverts the top post which is a standard 18volt One+ battery slot. Into a standard 18volt power ability. So no matter AC, DC 18volt, DC 40volts. Everything sitting on the pole is still running only at 18volts.

      Maybe they might sell just the tripod itself? Since not only is the light itself a 18volt device. So is the top post. So any 18volt tool can attach to it. Just the tripod itself is a converter system. Here's hoping they will. For people who won't wanna fork out for a large top light but might like the tripod itself for the hybrid and 40volt attachment pieces.
