The World Cup mode in FIFA 23 is a disgrace. It’s so boring. EA should be embarrassed, I’d almost consider buying a ps3 to be able to play this game again..

Fun Fact: There were 199 Nations in the 2010 world cup game
At the time there were 208 National teams (in fifa)
So that means only NINE national teams werent in this game
Probably one of the best Fifa games ever made and loads better than that add on we got for Fifa 23. 👍🏻

I still play this game almost every day. This was, IMO, the BEST FIFA World Cup game ever. 2014 might have had a few extra teams and all World Cup qualifying stages, but this game is better for a few reasons.
- Stadiums. All World Cup stadiums, many major stadiums for big teams, and a huge variety of generic stadiums; every biome had a few stadiums, let alone every continent, so road qualifiers genuinely felt like you were visiting that particular country. 2014 reduced the number of generic stadiums, so you saw the same surroundings and got tired of them fast, like in 2006.
- Simulated fixtures. All results in World Cup Qualifying are dynamic; every simulated result is unique. In 2014, all qualifying fixtures follow their real-life equivalent until you play your first qualifier, which is kinda lame and you can't change this unless you do a fully custom WCQ campaign.
2014 was also a good game and had its advantages (sliders, more rounds, more teams, realistic gameplay, etc.), but 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa reigns as king. Additionally, both games had:
- 199+ teams, with fully licensed players. I remember when this game came out, it absolutely blew my mind. I thought 2006 was crazy enough with 126 teams, but this game managed to do almost every NT on the planet with accuracy. EA has way more money to do stuff like this, and you're telling me they can't make a dedicated World Cup game like this?
- Scenario mode. Vapex, you may well remember that ISS was the first game to do "Story of Qualifying", but 2010 perfected it. Not only did you get real matches, but you got the real line-ups for that match too. Shame the 2010 FIFA WC live scenarios are not available anymore.
- Captain Your Country. Self-explanatory.
- World Cup Qualifying in general. I miss being able to do full WCQ campaigns and being able to micromanage different aspects of your campaign. What happened to this kind of detail and longevity?
- Custom tournaments. You could do custom World Cups as you wanted. Did you want to re-create the 1998 or 2002 groups? Did you want to do a World Cup with only the worst teams on the planet? Do whatever you wanted.
If I were to make a few changes to 2010, I would have...
- Allowed the player to switch stadium/city (like in real-life) if they wanted to, to play specific qualifiers in certain stadiums or cities. I think this minor feature would have allowed for a bit more variety.
- Had all stadiums have every weather and time feature. Additionally, allow the player to change the time of each fixture as they saw fit. Sometimes I want to play certain games at night.
- Sliders. I know they weren't introduced until FIFA 12, but still.
- Kit editor like in PES. I know FIFA isn't the most custom-friendly game, but allowing the player to "license" the kits for every team themselves would have gone a LONG way, copyright be damned.
- Added the missing WCQ rounds.
- Ability to do custom/regional tournaments. Just the ability to do fully-custom tournaments themselves, would have added so much re-playability.
I've gone long enough. I love 2010. Best damn game ever.

Why does gameplay look so much better than recent Fifas and FC 24? The flow of the game looks so smooth compared to their recent releases.. like the animations and physics actually work well together with no inconsistencies and the players you control don't try to fight you at all times.
It also looks like the AI is actually playing well instead of EA just straight up cheating by making your team play worse on higher difficulties.
You should do a series on this game, like doing the “captain your country” and go up the ranks and taking your country to the World Cup through the whole qualifying
Even in a video game, USA vs England still ends up as a 0-0 Draw

They don't make WC games like this anymore because they can't make money off of it through micro transactions for FUT. That's all that matters to EA anymore its seems.
Ea could literally remaster and reskin this with an updated roster for each world cup and we would all praise them but they are too selfish to do that.
Yeah I loved the fact you could scroll around the world and play as any country you wanted, I know people add mods now on FIFA 23 to add more national teams but it's not the same
if only we could get a roster update for this game.
I’m 50 years old and I thought I was the only one that loved this game. Couple friends used to get together, drink some beers and just play this for hours during the day. I’m thinking of buying an older system just to play it again.
I loved playing as Togo in this as they were only 3 Star so you could get the online WC achievement but had adebayor who was a beast and made getting the ball to him fun

Wow! It's amazing how nice and authentic the gameplay is. Slow it down a bit, and you have almost a perfect football game. Can't believe that this was made in 2010. Fifa 23 does not come close!

This game was my childhood. As a Bosnian, I always picked my country and would do the entire world cup mode to completion, friendlies and everything.
This was the best Fifa game ever. Had so much fun with my campaign with south korea, going all the way from early qualifiers to the semi finals, losing 3-4 (against Spain i think, or Italy?) and going for 3rd place in the end. Its a shame EA didn't build up on this game. Think i might have to play this again...

One thing you forgot is that is it had unlockable codes and you could enter different codes and get new, boots, celebrations and teams.

They gotta remaster this for PS5.. the sound track was dope.. moving around the globe to pick your team 🔥
Drogba in this game was God mode. This game was incredible, really hard though

what a game i could cry watching this, its a trip down memory lane i love this game so much the sound track the anoying trumpet thingys the one to pass button i think it was r1 X x 2 this game is where i found my love for not only fifa but the world the countrys on the map i use to try and gues where each country was and double check to see if i was right 13 years later i still know where half the countrys are my missus always ask how am i so good at geography i said oh i use to play this soccer game when i was a kid 😂
