  • Pino Pinelli, born in Catania in 1938, tells his story to Dep Art Gallery in this exclusive interview.
Leafing through the catalog of the large solo exhibition held at Palazzo Reale and simultaneously at the Gallerie d'Italia, in 2018 in Milan, the artist goes over the various stages of his artistic research with us.
One of the undisputed protagonists of the current called Analitica, Pinelli, explains to us the evolutionary path of his painting: from the investigation of modular and monochrome forms in the early '70s; from the turning point of '76 with the creation of his most iconic works, the "Rottura del Quadro" and the "Disseminazione"; up to the '90s where he abandons irregular forms for a regained geometric rationality and invents a mixed technique creating a "pictorial skin" sensually tactile, almost like velvet.
In an introspective journey, the artist tells us how he wanted to 'rewrite his own syntax of painting' and which artists, critics and exhibitions have inspired and influenced his final artistic statement that deviates, in part, from his analytical beginnings.
