    Very happy CZcams algorithm suggested your this video! I’m still practicing beauty retouching with both frequency separation and dodge and burn. At the moment i’m still fumbling around and it takes me a good 2hrs retouching a single photo. I appreciate creators like you for putting out great content to learn from! Cheers!

      Like, frequency separation helps to smooth out colours without losing texture whereas dodge and burn affects the lighting.

    I just learnt dodge and burn,it's an awesome method of retouching, but i think some skin tones require a combination of both

  • @tyfabz
    @tyfabz Před 4 lety +5

    Both are great retouching techniques however, FS is that much more versatile. It corrects imperfections if properly done and if the image being worked on has good details (highlights and shadows) you may not need D&B. As good as D&B is, it's a technique that's most suited to detailing, facial contouring etc but it will never remove the blemishes on the skin, for example. Before I learned D&B, FS was my go to technique for cleaning up and sharpening images even.. and they looked awesome. Using D&B after I had learned it made the images look even better.
    I learned D&B from this channel btw. Keep up the good work brother, hopefully one day we'll work together.

      You can always first do blemish then do dodge and burn. You can correct dodge and burb. BUt fixing high-frequency separation is much hard i think.You can fix it by masking it out ofcourse.

    After a looooong time of trying I decided to do FS on normal Portraits ( or a small amount of D&B there ), unpaid shoots and if the person isn so close to the camera. When I do Beauty Images I do D&B and I deliver only one picture.

    Correct me if I'm wrong....
    Frequency Separation when you're in a limited time and it's a more face portrait with noticable skin textures?
    Dodge and Burn is when you have a lot of time, it's a face and Body portrait and less skin texture to work on to look realistic?
    But sometimes you could do both?

    • @Jackstunts101
      @Jackstunts101 Před 4 lety

      Means you're applying too much Gaus. blur on the underlying image. Zoom in to the image in the gaussian blur window and look for the most detailed part of the skin (mostly under the eyes/just above the cheeks) then apply the blur until the details smoothen out. After that you can apply your top image.

    very beautiful video. I love dodg and burn. It's a very good technique. But I had the chance to work in Canada and Africa. sometimes the quality of the skin makes it necessary to use the separation of frequency. it happens to me to mix both. 90% D & B and 10% FS.

    • @PrinceMeyson
      @PrinceMeyson  Před 4 lety +1

      I want to work in Canada too! 😭😭Lool!
      This is a really valid point. Because of how the skin is here and no disrespect to people here (It's the weather and the environment) frequency separation is almost a must.

    Usually I follow what you're saying, but bruh...this was MUCH ado about NOTHING. I use dodge and burn on a layer underneath texture layer in frequency separation. They work hand-in-hand and/or separately. Mastery of both skills are necessary for your retouching toolbox though.

      Sorry if you feel the video wasn't necessary. Most people use either the Dodge and Burn technique or FS to smoothing skin.
