- Did you know that Princess Diana was both the first lady of the Windsor family and the first member of the monarchy to make her Met Gala debut in 1996. Diana appeared at the evening in a navy blue combination dress from John Galliano's debut couture collection for Dior. The dress was accessorised with a pearl choker set with diamonds and a sapphire. Her Highness was accompanied by her friend and former Harper's Bazaar editor Elizabeth Tilberis

In 1996 Diana was separated from Charles since 1992. Their Divorce was finalized in August 1996. She was no longer a member of the British Royal Family, so your statement is not correct.

She made connections with the paparazzi to ensure maximum publicity. Most of her visits to charities were photo opportunities to draw attention to the charities and herself. She overshadowed the royal family and hogged the limelight.
The number of charities was reduced, and after the divorce, she was reduced to 6 charities. She shifted her focus to creating an image of herself as a humanitarian. Her walk through the minefield in Angola was a publicity stunt to publicize the Red Cross and HALO projects to ban landmines. She was never at risk of being injured. Her role and contributions to charities and humanitarian causes were to use her royal celebrity status to provide public relations and publicity.
