  • @AllTradesGeorge
    @AllTradesGeorge Před 3 měsíci +3

    I'm definitely a budget golfer. I think the most expensive club in my bag is a second-hand Callaway 52°wedge that I bought off eBay. Almost everything else is stuff I found at thrift stores. The irons aren't fakes...they're an unbranded Callaway clone that actually got sold enough that I could find online reviews of them in about ten seconds. It was a full set, practically brand new, and only $12. I've been using them for years, and only just replaced grips this winter.
    They were an upgrade from an almost-complete set of much older Harvey Penick irons (missing the 5 iron) that I bought (from a thrift store) as an upgrade from the clubs I inherited when my dad died.
    I still prowl thrift stores on a regular basis, and check the golf clubs pretty much every time. If I found the right set, I'd consider upgrading again, but I'm pretty satisfied with what I've got. Except maybe my driver...I've been using a Taylormade R9 for years, and I loved it...but it's gone from being probably 75% straight down the fairway to maybe 20% the last two times I've gone out. Still trying to figure out if I've just forgotten how to swing a driver or if there's actually something wrong with the driver...

    • @Barneyrubble241
      @Barneyrubble241 Před 20 dny

      I doubt it's the club. R9 has some years on it now, but it's still a high quality club. Go back to basics, Stance, Grip, takeaway etc. Every time I get going goofy, especially with the driver it's always something simple. For me, it's usually my grip seeing too many knuckles on my left hand.

    • @AllTradesGeorge
      @AllTradesGeorge Před 20 dny

      @@Barneyrubble241 yeah, I've kept at it this year and was actually getting back to fairly consistent results when we hit a really busy point at work...I haven't picked up a club in six weeks, now. It was a bunch of different factors...over-swinging, I'd moved a liitle too close to the ball so I was consistently swinging out-to-in (which never turns out well for me)...
      A big part of it, though, was me second-guessing myself after a couple of bad rounds, that just kept feeding on itself and getting worse and worse. I took a day and just went to the driving range instead of playing a round, and discovered that I could, in fact, still hit my driver, and that improved things a lot. My rhythm is still a little off, so I'm not consistent...but I'm generally keeping it within 10deg of straight and no longer severely shanking it like I was when I posted this.

    • @Barneyrubble241
      @Barneyrubble241 Před 20 dny +1

      @@AllTradesGeorge Yeah, I've been there. More times than I'd like to admit. The second guessing myself part especially. That's exactly why I try to go back to the fundamentals that I learned 45 years ago when I started playing. They worked then. They'll work now. Like you, I have a very mixed bag of all second hand clubs. I def spent a little more though. LOL MIzuno 7iron to GW match, but I have a TM driver, a Ping 5 wood. A Cleveland 7 wood and some old Toski irons for the 5 & 6. Early game improvement irons. Very chunky. And Costco Kirkland wedges.

    The only fake item I've bought were a couple of Callaway Hats. They look great but the discerning eye can see the difference. My clubs were sourced from Ebay and Callaway outlet. I always buy used but in great condition. Most are display models that have minimal to zero wear. IMHO I paid lot for them but a lot less than full retail.

    I’m in Canada and have changed almost all my clubs over the last year. Bought clubs at my golf course, Gold Traders, Avenue Golf and Golf Town. Combination of new, used and over stock. No fakes. I will trade in old clubs to finance mew purchases. I fit myself but did a static fit on a couple of web pages. I would buy a club play a few rounds and trade it in if not suited to my game. I find it is a better process than hitting off a mat in a fitting studio. Thanks for the video. Good to know about counterfeit clubs. Patrick

What would be interesting, as a follow-up to this (and preferably several of these), is if you would like to make a video with GCC about how they ensure the quality, loft, length etc etc of the clubs they bring in and sell..? I have shopped a little at GCC and experience them as serious of course, however, they have a very "long" delivery time for their goods, but you get what you think and always good service.
