- This is how I have laid out my south single room here at the University of Guelph! A quick view at some of the other amenities and some suggestions on what to pack for moving in. Check out the UofG Housing youtube channel for more videos on the different types of rooms.

Your videos have been helpful to get us prepared for my Daughter to attend in the fall. Interesting side note. I used to go to school in OHIO. I lived in Tipp City, went to school in Troy.

Congratulations to your daughter and your family!! Very exciting to be preparing for the next chapter of life, and personally I would say she made a great choice with Guelph!
The world is so small lol the more people I talk to the denser my network gets. Even though I went to a whole other country for my degree, I recently found out that we have been using research from Guelph for our farming in Ohio for years now! Small small world
@@lynn.2019 indeed! My daughter Kyra has accepted the bio medical sciences. She is looking to enroll in the DVM program at Guelph. It has always been her Dream School. 😁

Great Video! I am going to Guelph in the fall and am working on my res apps. I know I want to dorm in south, but don't know what preference order to put Mountain, Maritime, and Prairie in. Any advice?
Maritime is the quietest, mountain has the food court that is open latest, and praire is just sorta there lol maritime is closest to the gym, mountain is closest to the bus loops, it all depends on what type of things you do as to which one is best for you
Hi Lynn, I’m deciding between East Residence single room and South Maritime single room. Which one should I choose! Any recommendation or info about these two places?
Ahh!! just saw this again! It is probably too late, but east and south are very different vibes. I say go east if you already have friends coming to guelph or if you are going to be involved in a lot of clubs. It is physically farther from the center of campus and it is a lot more divided, so if you are shy, it is probably going to be hard to make friends there unless you get involved in other ways. South is sort of the quinticential university dorm experience in my opinion. It is louder and much more lively, and you get super close with the people on your floor as long as you keep your door open every once in a while and invite them to the food court with you when you are going. You do give up space and independance by living in south since you cant cook for yourself there and there are shared lounges, but they are a little too out in the open for meanigful hanging out. Sorry I didnt get to this sooner! But I hope this helps

Which residence on-campus is considered the calm quiet residence 🤐?
i would steer away from south if you are lookong for quiet lol probably Lennox, Addington, or Lambtom would be quietest
Love it, how hard is it to take a shower with timing it with others
Great question! One of the girls in my alcove was super worried about that this semester and she was asking us all (the 6-7 of us that share the two showers) if we were morning shower or night shower people, but in my two years of living in south there has always been a shower open when i wanted a shower, so it is never a problem! and if for some reason you reallllly needed a shower right now and both of them in your alcove were full, you could go up a floor or down a floor and have access to those alcove's showers since we arent assigned bathrooms.
Hello! Just wondering, when I'm applying for south residence, can I decide between single corridor or single alcove? because I really want alcove, and really don't like the window for corridor.
You can not decide that unfortunately. If you are placed in south and you look at the room number and it is a coridor, just email housing and ask to be moved to an alcove room when possible. A friend of mine did that and she got moved. It all just depends on what is available. Adding another option like that for all of the south singles and doubles would be way more confusing for people who dont do a lot of research on top of the large amount of choices already offered so I think they just do it this way to minimize stress

hey! I was wondering if the room comes with the curtain/curtain rod that covers the window/balcony?
no, i put that up, but i got both the rod and the curtain at the thrift store for less than five dollars
So no window covering that balcony window?
Also, where did you get the little drape on your dresser?
Lastly, do you know how wide the cupboard is? Thanks
@@sandraszlagowski2622 the window has a shade for the top half and the bottom half is frosted, so yes window covering, but it is not a pretty curtain.
The drape is a the remnants of a t shirt I had cropped attatched to a long piece of elastic. So I didnt really get it from anywhere, I just made it.
I do not know how wide the dresser is but I would estimate 3 feet wide by 4.5 feet tall and 2 feet deep

in basically all residences the floor you live on is all one gender but the building or tower is co ed. In the case of Cove 2, there are six floors, each floor has about 10 people, so the ten people on your floor would all be the same, and those are the people you share the bathroom with. But if you go up or down one floor it could be a different gender or the same as your floor. That just depends on numbers of how many people of those genders got assigned to Cove 2
Can you take unwanted furniture out of your room? If I want to bring my own desk chair can I take the provided chair out of my room?
Strongly not reccomended, at least last year. When I was helping with move in the staff were instructed to tell anyone leaving the building with university furniture that they had to take it back to their room.
In south we suggested that students use their uni provided chair either as a shoe rack in their closet or as an extra sitting chair in their window alcove because thw chair fits really nicely in those two places and then you can bring in your own nice desk chair.
Also, is the bathroom gonna be crowded in the morning?
I usually saw one or two people but we were almost never doing the same things. Like I would be going in for a shower before classes and my alcove mate would be brushing her teeth or something. There are two sinks and two showers so its really not a big issue for those things that take a long time like showers or skin care routines. There is only one toilet, but if you really have to go, just go up or down one flight of stairs and there is another option
If you go up a floor to use the toilet if yours is occupied, do you run the risk of that floor being a different gender? I presume you need to go to a floor of the same gender?
@@sandraszlagowski2622 tye bathrooms are not officially gendered, just sort of a social norm. So you can use any bathroom you want. But you will probably have a boys floor above you and a girls floor below (or the opposite) so you can just remember which way to go if you want to follow the social norm and use the bathroom on a floor that matches your gender
