Revisiting some old ringing vids during lockdown, these are MAGICAL when struck well, who else but the Brummies to deliver?

Bell ringing it not a ritual, and most ringers are not connected to the church.
English change ringing origins are not exactly known but during the 1600s it became popular.
The bells are runf from a mouth up position and rotated 360 degrees both clockwise and anti clockwise.
This allows you to ring heavy bells with minimal effort but more importantly allows the bells to swap positions with one another.
Some basic rules apply in that each bell can either stay in its same position or move either one position up or down in amy one sequence.
On 12 bells the possible permutation s that can be rung is 12! or 479001600 .
It takes around 3 to 4 hours to ting 5040 change.
To ring all of them continuously would take approximately 35 years which is impossible.
Thought i would tell you this so you can understand what its about.

I remember when the Todmorden bells were removed here and augmented to 12.

    The Birmingham ar something special.
Not only well struck but the open leads are distinctive which on surprise methods is harder to achieve ?

It’s harder on any method with the tenor turned in. Change ringing is fundamentally different because it relies on the principle of knowing what place you need to be in whereas call change ringers rely on the need to know who to follow. I have likened it to driving to the shops & having to follow a certain vehicle or several vehicle’s against knowing the route (the way) to the shops by memory.

Shame I never heard them in Todmorden. I would've rang there otherwise!
