Remember, these seas were the same way, back in the days of the square rigger ships. And those were not steel, but wood.
They didn't have any fancy navigation, radars or radios either.

Have you ever slept on the deck of a ferry, Me n my 3yr old son did in 1982 going to Alaska. Those waves on the open sea lap over the deck, actually it was a trip of a lifetime, 3 nights on deck. There were no available berths to sleep in!
That's crazy. I hope you slept with life preserver s on or nearby. That must have been fun and an experience to enjoy with your son.
I experienced those same type of rough Seas several times, via the United States Navy.
One particular time, is when we were headed to Hawaii.
Just because it's a warship, doesn't mean it cannot sink.
I phased this motto, " there are no Big Ships in the ocean" 😁😁😁
