- I finally wrote and recorded lyrics to an instrumental I recorded in 2012 when I was 14. I’m so glad i found it. Still not 100% happy with the lyrics but I am trying to finish songs and let go.
Vocals recorded 2024.
Instruments recorded 2012 except for the lead guitar in the intro and the lead guitar fill in the second verse. They were recorded 2024.
I listen and I can tell exactly what i was listening to on every car big car journey to see an air display as our family are big fans of planes, helicopters and jets.
Sadly i had very cheap microphones for the drums but it could be worse. I am so proud of the hi hat swing and enjoy hearing that I was playing like that on the hi hat at age 14… recently I was feeling like a phoney for attempting fancy patterns from a funk style i wasn’t brought up but I’ve been trying since like 8 so it’s not a complete appropriation as i had recently feared.

This is a great track in all ways. Brilliant vocals, guitar etc. The solo is so good and I've always loved the wah, especially when tastefully used, like on this track. Just so good!! Nice one, James 😊😊

Keys at start, a pleasant departure. Adding the vocal mirrors the syncopation of the instruments. The WHA-WHA in the solo is a good fit and printed lyrics also appreciated. Recently written - so present-day concept / thoughts. (How do musicians decide what a song should be about?) Instrumental version [on Bandcamp] I found adventurous, with remarkably strong melody and skilful playing. Seems at just 14, if you could think it in your head, you could play it. And now the added vocal perfectly takes up that tune, words matching phrasing note-for-note. A very good job. Enjoyed. Intrigued by the photo ???
