  • Flying Scotsman Returns! This extended weekend, from the 13th to the 16th October, The Flying Scotsman Returns to the East Lancashire Railway.
Built in 1923, the Scotsman flew into the record books on November 30th, 1934 when it became the fastest steam locomotive in the world by officially becoming the first steam loco to pass 100 mph.
However, this wasn't the first record the Flying Scotsman was to hold, for in 1928 it became their train to travel non-stop from London to Edinburgh. This is a truly special machine!
The East Lancashire Railway runs for 12.5 miles from Heywood to Rawtenstall and originally opened in 1846.
