    I learned that Chad Goff sadly passed away in a motorcycle/deer/auto accident on 13 April 2021. RIP brother. I've enjoyed watching your Colorado videos for countless hours.

    I'm just discovering these 3 years later than they were posted, because I've recently been curious about the 650L for stuff like this (I currently ride an 04 V-Strom 1000). I'm bummed I found your vids; now I want an L!! Such a chill ride thru some amazing terrain, and I appreciate the fact that you just let the camera roll, and no music!!...quite soothing to have your vid on one monitor while I'm working from the other 3 monitors.
    Although, I do find it funny in most of your vids: "Why are there no signs??" - But won't stop for 1 minute to look at google maps. "I gotta check my tires!!" - But won't grab a tire pressure guage. :D :D

    Another great video. I hope the ride was better for you than it sometimes looked... At times it appeared that you were on a bucking bronco!
    I only discovered these types of rider point-of-view videos in the past week. They will help hold me over until the new KLX300 or CRF300 is available in my area, some months from now. Want to get back into riding after a nearly 30-yr layoff.
    As a side note, I have to quit watching these videos. They only prove how boring my life is! lol

    That has to be about the very best place to ride in. Chad youre so lucky to be there as an enduro rider. I think if I lived there with those rocks Id even invest in the Tubliss tire tube tech so I could run lower pressure and never care about flats. Because my ass would be living in those mountains on my Xr every weekend. LoL.. You do have a problem there tho ... You have to go slow to take in the views, if you haul ass you have to have tunnel vision and miss it all....what a predicament.

    Done this trip 3 times on my XR 600 and loved it each time. Few hours of pavement here and there, but worth it to me for the off road capabilities of the 600. Great video, doesn't look like you had any issues. How is the 650 on the road? Any issues with jetting or power at elevation? I have none on my 600, thinking about getting a 650 for better road comfort.

    • @chadgoff4878
      @chadgoff4878  Před 6 lety

      The road isn't that bad. Not as comfortable as my Harley. The jetting I left stock. It bogged at the higher elevations but the bike was ridable.

      @@chadgoff4878 cool. I went down three steps on my main jet, left the pilot and everything else with the carb alone. Ran great, even up high. Only been back a week, I wanna go do it again!!!

    • @chadgoff4878

      Going down on jet sizes would definitely help to make the bike not sputter so much at high altitude.

  • @The808holes
    @The808holes Před 4 lety +1

    With stock jetting did you notice any differences at high elevation? I read that cinnamon pass is 12,000+ft

    • @chadgoff4878
      @chadgoff4878  Před 4 lety +2

      The highest peak I ran was 14k. I had a huge power loss but the bike ran. At some of the passes I didn't want to shut off the bike. I was glad the 650 still had power to tractor along. The lean stock jetting made it work.

    • @llshamelessll
      @llshamelessll Před 4 lety

      @@chadgoff4878 Being a CV carb that we bitch about here in the flat lands also compensates for altitude a bit. My FCR carb would need a jet change for sure.

    • @chadgoff4878
      @chadgoff4878  Před 4 lety

      @@llshamelessll I think what helped me the most was my bike being stock. The stock jetting is very lean from the factory. I think I would have struggled more if I would have put a jet kit in at my Ohio elevation. Fuel injection would give ya more peace of mind.

    That's awesome! Was there ever a point where you felt an "average" rider would have difficulty? I know that you were on jeep trails with utvs, just (overly) concerned about hitting a rock and launching over a cliff. haha

    • @TS-mo6pn
      @TS-mo6pn Před 4 lety +3

      Five months is a long time to wait, but, if you're still interested...
      An average dual-sport rider should have no trouble with any pass that a Jeep can drive over. That said, I found the west side of Mosquito Pass a bit tricky because it is steep and rocky. I also ride an XR650L which is a top heavy underpowered beast that on dirt roads can be a bit spooky in corners or over about 45 mph on dirt roads. A lot of the riding over the passes will be around 25-35 mph, slower in the rocky sections. Much depends on your bike. I lowered the suspension on mine by an inch to improve cornering. Any bike with a carbureted engine will lose power at elevation, but not too bad. Must mention riding responsibly-in the summertime there is quite a bit of traffic and you don't want to cause an accident by riding like a crazy person. A lot of drivers are understandably annoyed when people on bikes and four wheelers ride like they own the place.
      There's still snow on the passes but they should be clear soon, can't wait to get out and do them again!
