I made the trip from Dar to Kigoma back in 2008. Three days in the private berth, spent with a thousand cockroaches. I woke up with a rat on my chest. Sweltering heat due to the window being up (the request of the conductor as a backpacker is likely to get robbed). I accidentally fell asleep with it down (dying from heat exhaustion) and woke up to find a crazed, red-eyed man trying to claw his way in. I slashed at him with my knife. He fell off the train. The toilet holes in the floor for covered in massive diarrhea, so I pooped in a plastic bag, next to my bed. Ran out of clean water but finally made it to Kigoma. My wife got severe malaria the next day and we had to be medically evacuated. That's my Tanzanian railway story. lol.
Our family, my wife, son & daughter, our African Grey parrot, cat in two coupe compartments. Our two dogs were in the goods truck last carriage of the train . We did this same trip in 2007 in transit to Kalemie in DRC. I can write a book on that experience!!!
Tanzania bullet train will open in Dec 2019. one across the country to Rwanda and a light rail around the city. none of the East countries are playing around; their people will better than the USA in 5 to 10 years. Tanzania said they will met their goals by 2025. 🚝 the USA dont have high speed rails. Electric trains will also bring electric into those small village = which will bring power to everyone. They will also finishe built the 7th largest dam in the world. All these projects are self-funded. Free trade agreement is signed 50 countries 1.4 billion customers.. the race to the top is on !!
