Premature ventricular contractions, PVCs, are premature heartbeats originating in one of the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles.
PVCs can result from a variety of factors and conditions, including:
    - consumption of alcohol, caffeine, tobacco or drugs
    - certain medications
    - physical exercise, stress, or anything that increases adrenaline levels
    - certain electrolyte deficiencies
    - and damaged cardiac tissue caused by other heart diseases.
PVCs are very common, but often produce no or few symptoms. When present, symptoms may include skipped heart beats, palpitations, and lightheadedness.
In normal conduction, electrical impulses start in the SA node, depolarize the atria, then pass through the AV node to activate the ventricles. A PVC happens when the ventricles are activated prematurely, by an abnormal firing site, called ectopic site, located in one of the ventricles. Because ventricular depolarization does not come from the atria, PVC complexes are not preceded by P waves. Unlike the normal conduction carried out by specialized cells of the conduction pathway, the signal in PVC is conducted through the myocytes of the heart muscle, and propagates more slowly, producing a broader QRS complex. Depending on the location of the ectopic site, the resulting QRS complex may also be taller, or deeper than usual. PVCs typically do not conduct back to the atria, so SA node firing is usually not affected, and PP intervals remain unchanged. But the P wave that follows a PVC may not result in a beat if it happens too closely to the PVC, when the ventricles are still in their refractory period. This is referred to as a compensatory pause.
There are 3 mechanisms by which a PVC may occur:
    - Increased automaticity. The ability of ventricular myocytes to spontaneously depolarize and generate action potentials is associated with intracellular calcium overload caused by excess catecholamines, drugs such as digoxin, and certain electrolyte deficiencies, such as hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia.
    - Re-entry circuit in a ventricle. This usually happens when there is a damage to the heart muscle, such as a scar from a previous heart attack, or other heart conditions. The damaged tissue conducts at a slower speed, causing the electrical signal to go around it, creating a self-perpetuating loop.
    - Triggered beats. These are extra-beats produced by early or delayed after-depolarizations. Early after-depolarization may occur when the duration of action potentials is abnormally long, in conditions such as long QT syndrome, hypokalemia, or as an effect of drugs such as potassium channel blockers. Delayed after-depolarizations can be caused by digoxin toxicity or excess catecholamines.
Most people do not need treatment for PVC itself, but the underlying factor or condition must be addressed.

These go away people ! You need to take note of what you are eating! It's the heavy metals in foods that cause an electrolyte imbalance! For me , I narrowed it down, it was seafood such as albacore tuna (mercury) and green bell peppers (pesticides). Once I cut that out I noticed a drastic decline. There are also foods that help -cilantro (helps remove heavy metals) and 100% coconut juice (electrolytes). And lastly, what I noticed really, really helped was jogging for about 5 min daily on treadmill, set my rhythm back to normal. Try what I just mentioned for about 2-3 weeks and again, take note of what you are consuming. Hope this helps anyone dealing with this!

I used to get these all the time. They felt really intense, like a quick little kick or jolt in my chest. It would force me to take a deep breath in. They were so scary. My cardiologist prescribed me Carvedilol and I rarely ever get them anymore. Maybe 1 or 2 a month if that and they are very light feeling. This is literally the best ecg interpretation of what types of pvcs are. Especially their site of origins if the qrs is high or low high means right ventricular and low wave means left ventricles. It's a sample but at least when you see a pvc, you have a general idea where it might be. I think that pvcs should be taken seriously by drs. I had pvcs that started to develop slowly. Healthy, normal, no anxiety and gets plenty of rest and fit. It was benign but kept returning each year to see my dr and after several visits to the ER, my pvcs were actually caused by one single site origin and was potentially causing right ventricular problems. I was nominated to get medicated but didn't work. So I got nominated to do an ablation and it was textbook - they got it and I no longer have pvcs! Well, here and there but I was getting 1000 a day and though mine benign, the ecg showed something of concern and turns out I had an over active myocite.

we all went through this phase when we started having them frequently, it will resolve and you will know why it happens and how to avoid the things that can trigger them. my only advice to you is to check with your Dr if there's nothing to worry about then do whatever it takes to lower your stress hormones and anxiety levels, believe it or not, the majority of PVCs happen because of anxiety and stress. having them while eating or lying down has nothing to do with the action itself it's just because you are too stressed and on the edge to the point that your heart beats faster after eating instead of beating slower which is a sign of anxity .

I have been to the cardiologist and wore a monitor for a week and they said my heart is ok and it’s normal to have these sometimes. I honestly think mine started after I had COVID and I strongly believe mine are COVID related. COVID can have so many effects on your body after you recover and many people will have new health issues later on, and I think this is happening to me.
With that said I also suffer from anxiety and panic and I have tons of stress lately so maybe that is also making the pvcs worse.
    Anyone else that can relate?

I'm also wondering if Covid caused my random heart issues. Started out as PVC/PACs for about a week, cut all caffeine, alcohol and lowered nicotine use, still had them but not as bad. I caught a cold, took Niquil and had an Afib episode. Woke up to my heart beating at 200bpm, went to the ER and had to get a cardioversion. Never had heart issues before this, I'm 33, I'm like 99% convinced Covid caused my issues.

I know it’s kind of the different but I was taking vitamin D up to 8,000 Iu a couple of times, 4000 for about 3 weeks maybe 4 and I’ve had heart palpitations since, flutters etc that beat up in to my neck, about 4 on a bad day and way more when I’m doing cardio. Never had them in my life before!
I’ve stopped the vitamin D and I’m still getting them, scarily I didn’t know it’s a pretty crazy hormone and it also increases the uptake of calcium and I happened to be keto and consuming a shit tonne of dairy, goats cheese, cottage cheese all day, also it’s the easiest thing for me to digest having gut issues.
I now know if you don’t take vitamin K2 with vitamin D that in rare cases it can cause too much calcium in the blood, even calcium in the heart! Calcification ain’t good! And palpitations are inevitable!
I really feel like it’s connected, never had them before taking vitamin D and that’s the only thing I’ve added to my inventory.
Been about 5 days since quitting the vitamin D and I’m still getting them but now I’m anxious too which isn’t helping.
Hoping I have the success you had by simply removing it. My only guess is that it’s stored in my fat and is still being used and isn’t out of my system, plus I may have to get my calcium down.
If not, guess it’s a trip to the cardiologist. This shit sucks.

From what Ive researched, it's not really deadly at all unless you're fainting, shortness of breath etc.
Think of it as a muscle twitch. Your heart is a muscle, and while I'm simplifying a bit, it's like your heart is "twitching", comes out of nowhere, happens for a second, makes you take a weird deep breath, and then it's gone.

Adrian thank you for that last sentence. Literally I can’t explain how it makes me feel but that wraps it up! Kinda catches you by surprise. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pvcs are normal if they're not frequent. If they're frequent it could be a sign of an underlying issue. If pvcs come all at once and it's fast, it could be an episode of a tachycardia
