    It seems that Yamaha listened to the Tour Custom fans and now brought in some additional add on sizes!! As of 2024 they now have an 8 inch Tom and 18 inch bass drum, in addition to the matching snares they’ve had for a few years. The Tour Custom is great!!

    tour custom is a value version of the absolute maple kit . the tour custom really has good tone and projection! and you cant beat Yamaha hardware.

      Well said, The tour custom'sounds as good as the maple custom (old one) and the absolute maple custom .

    I have a Gretsch Catalina Maple (7 piece with 22) and a Yamaha Stage Custom (5 piece with 20). I love both but although the classic maple drum sound from my Gretsch is nice, I find my Stage Custom to be much more versatile, even with the 20 inch kick. This Tour Custom seems to provide the best of both worlds- it has the familiarity of the Stage Custom but with the features of higher priced kits. Part of me is considering upgrading from my Gretsch kit to this kit (in the same sizes and finish that you have here plus a 14 inch floor tom) so I can have 2 nice sounding Yamaha kits at low prices. Thanks for the nice review, very informative!!

    Just so everyone knows, the inner and outer ply is North American maple plus European maple in the middle. That is from Yamaha’s website.

    New in 2024, Yamaha is offering a 8x7 tom for the Tour Custom. They should review it with the matching snare though.

    Great video! For me, there is only one issue with these drums...they are touring drums right? Well, why don't they come in a Delmar wrap? Open-stained drums will get a lot of "dings" and scratches out there on the road. This is the only "downfall" I have found overall. Any thoughts?

    why did you not use the tom mount on the bass drum?

    How would a Yamaha tour custom 20,12,14 compare to a Ludwig classic maple downbeat

    • @lieutenantcolumbo114
      @lieutenantcolumbo114 Před rokem

      Good question dear friend, in my humble opinion Ludwig Cm is too heavy, gretsch too.
      Lot of gretsch/Ludwig guys switched to Yamaha.
      Of course Ludwig cm will sound a bit better but honestly eyes closed in front of the room/garage no one will tell the difference between the Yamaha tour custom vs Ludwig Cm . Good heads, good'tuning can makes this tour custom sounds 2 times better than any high end kit.

    Sounds great ! Love the projection especially on floor tom and bass drum ! How does it compare to other kit around 1.5k euros/dollars like Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birck, MApex Saturn, Gretsch Renown or DW Performance ?
    I love the Absolutes and the Hybrid Maple is a drumkit. This one may be more in my price range ^^ Just need to add the marvellous maple snare from the hybdid maple, I am a 14*6 guy

      Asking myself the same question! What did you end up going with? For me it's between the Starclassic Performer and the Tour Custom right now.

      @@christianroovers At the moment, I am heading toward an upgrade to my e-kit for some DTx10 or at least the new tom and snare pads !
      I am exploring the used kit looking for a Maple Absolute Nouveau kit I loved to play on when I was taking lessons. I am also looking for some Sonor Delite, I love Sonor so much or yes, a Starclassic Kit, but a Bubinga one.
      In the end, it will be a Yamaha, Sonor or Tama kit :)
      I would pick the Tour Custom if I had to choose right now, and if I had the money to do it all.

      looks like coated ambassadors on top for snare and toms.. I have the clear ambassadors on my toms but thinking of trying the coated ones after watching this video. I own this kit in the candy apple color. Great sounding drums, highly recommend!

    Chinese maple?
    Other websites say its American and European maple. On the Yamaha Website it just says maple. What is it really?

    • @drumcenternh
      @drumcenternh  Před 6 lety +8

      It's a combination North American Maple (hard maple) and less expensive maple (soft maple).

    • @raymondm4441

      I think it's similar to what Sonor did with the Select Force line where Sonor sandwiched Asian Maple in between outer plies of Canadian Maple. In Yamaha;s case, I believe it's Asian Maple between North American Maple. Pretty much cuts down the cost but gives you the good stuff where it matters most in my opinion, the inner and outer plies. I may be wrong, but whatever, they sound great.

      @@drumcenternh Good to know!! That must be why it falls exactly between kits around the $1000 price point like the Gretsch Catalina/PDP Concept/Pearl Decade/Tama Superstar and kits in the $1400+ price point like the Gretsch Renown/DW Performance/Pearl Masters/Tama StarClassic.

      According to the manufacturer’s product description on Amazon, it mentioned: “...all-maple shells with the beautiful grain of US maple inside and out.” So I’m guessing that answers the question.

      @@mrtc29 Yes it does, so I kept the clears on the bottom and changed the top for coated, I spent proper time on tunning and the sound is great. I will try an emperor coated on the floor tom to get an even deeper sound.

      Same lugs, same 6 ply. the absolute maple custom was made in Japan by sakae if i'm correct or maybe the first ones...
