Learn more about the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and visiting wilderness areas by air responsibly at the link above!
The Wrangell St. Elias National Park is the largest national park in the United States at over 13.2 million acres. The mountain peaks in the park top over 18,000 feet above sea level with massive glaciers covering most of the mountains in the park. While it may not be as well known as Denali or Yellowstone, it rivals all parks in the United States for it extreme beauty, ruggedness, remoteness, and it is just a land of plain "extremes" in every way.
Join us on our journey throughout the park and the surrounding wilderness to experience flying in Alaska with breathtaking views from bushplanes and helicopters.
Whether you are a pilot, or just someone who appreciates the nature the last frontier has to offer, the Wrangells never disappoint, and should be on everyone's travel bucketlist.
Most importantly, ensure you become educated prior to venturing out into the wilderness, whether by bushplane, raft, or on foot. The wilderness here is TRUE wilderness, and help is VERY far away should something go wrong. One of the many things that makes this place so special is that you MUST be ready to survive on your own. This is an unforgiving place to those who are not prepared.

FLY SAFE!

I personally appreciate the environmentalist message of "leave no trace" when camping in the back country. It's so critical for preservation of our wilderness.
Yes!
same as eating meat
meanwhile every country in Asia flushes all of their sewerage and city stormwater straight into the Pacific and nobody calls them out on it, but it's still a nice thing that picnicers don't leave beer bottles around their campsites.
Living in the UK....one can only dream of being able to have this kind of flying freedom....incredible adventures !!
We'd love to see you here in Alaska!
Too awesome. Amanda and I were the ones who donated the Delorme Gazetteer to the Peavine cabin. Glad it made it into the video!
Thanks for putting it there!
right about leaving garbage behind and etc but i woudnt worry too much about tires tracks in mud thats a bit of over kill thinking lol but great bedio thanks for shareing
Fantastic video!!! Loved the drone work and just about everything else in it. Thanks for taking us along. 👍
Hi FLY8MA, I wanted to thank you for making the virtual flight lesson videos (that playlist on your channel that had like 120 videos or something on becoming a pilot) because a year ago I started watching those videos and it got me into the idea of flight and flying. Because of those videos, when U did start my flight lessons, I was able to excel in a way I wouldn’t have if I had not watched the videos. I’m now flying from takeoff to landing (with my instructor in the right seat). Thank you!
That 170 is gorgeous.
52:09 to 52:18 - best aviation shot EVER!! That was awesome!
This was AMAZING!! I'd love to do this some day, but the chances of that are pretty slim. Your video quality and zoom placement were dead-on PERFECTION! Felt like I was right there. What a great production! Thanks for the effort in bringing this to all of us! MUCH appreciated!! WOW!!
Come on up to Alaska and fly with us!
@@fly8ma.comflighttraining199 - Hopefully some day! Thanks for the invite! 👍🍻
exactly!
Watched from start to finish and loved every minute! 😊👍🏻
Thank you so much 😀
Best aviation
How about an aggressive slip instead of step stalling it?
I agree with not leaving trash,
Wow, what a great video! From the epic scenery shot on multiple cameras on the airplane, planning advise, specific location advice, video editing to panoramic drone shots there is so much to like in this video! I enjoyed every moment! Thank you for taking the time to drag all of the camera equipment along and edit the video so that we can all enjoy!
Wow! Amazing sights, and amazing bush flying. I went on a Trek America tour from the UK for 3 weeks in Alaska 30 years ago, including visiting St. Elias/Wrangells. It was great to bring back those memories which stay with me today. It was fanastic to see those huge flat valleys with braided rivers and see the big country absolutely dominate the tiny sparse human beings within it. On that trip I got the feeling how the landscape can go on forever and cares not a jot about whether a human has seen or walked it in. I got that feeling of true wilderness and would love to go back and hike there again.
Im 70 yrs old, hold an ASEL PPL / IR and if my health was better, i would relocate from Michigan to Alaska just to get your flight instruction .....all you vids are GREAT..❤
I did my flight training in and around Ann Arbor. We all now have another crew member from the west side / UP. We love Michigan!
Excellent video! You're not a hippie for talking about preserving wilderness. As capitalist, hunter, pilot, and freedom-loving American I agree with you. Former U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt who was a great conservationist would also have likely agreed with you. It's important to preserve nature. We go into nature to see the natural environment, not the environment shaped by humans. If we wanted to see the environment shaped by humans we'd visit the city.
Little temporary tire tracks bad, permanent visible strips seen from miles away, meh!

Step & Jon thank you for such an awesome adventure in Alaska! We sure have missed you guys these past months from your flying adventures up north! Again thank you for sharing such a magnificent flying experience! We look forward to other adventures. :-) Don/NE Ohio
I've been in the mountains in Alaska for years and years. I 100% partake in leave no trace. But I'm still taking a moose shed if I find one. 😂😂😂
❤️it! I am all in!
Cannot believe how few views this has.. this is YT gold.
Beautiful..🤙🏼. Thanks for sharing your experience and perspective.😊
I like the kombucha beverage choice at 53:54. Oh the flying and stuff was cool too haha
Enjoyed your video tour. You were wise to be concerned about bears at Orange Hill. My dad I sheep hunted in there back in the 70s before the park was created. We were with a guide who had set up a base camp near there. A grizzly completely destroyed all 4 tents and everything in them. All the food was canned, but that didn't make any difference. I was quite surprised to see how far Nabesna Glacier has receded in the past half century. But a lot of fun to see it again.
Bummer, but did the bears have help from Alaska Bigfoots?
Look 👀 like fun 🤩 times ahead!!
As soon as I win the lottery, I will be right up there to fly with you....until then I am marooned in Michigan! !!
Love this video!!!! The way se carries the dog, so funny.
Alaska is such an amazing place for bushplane adventures! The vast, wild landscapes there provide the perfect backdrop for these rugged and versatile aircraft. Bushplanes are essential for accessing remote areas in Alaska, and it's incredible how pilots navigate through challenging terrains and weather conditions. It's always exciting to think about the blend of skill, adventure, and the sheer beauty of nature that bushplane flights in Alaska encompass. Flying over the stunning Alaskan wilderness must be an absolutely breathtaking experience! 🛩🌲🏔
its certainly is
Lovely video! Alaska so far far away from me.
But in Kazakhstan so many fantastic seeing and my dream fly over it with my paramotor.
The Peavine Packer Elf!!!! She really exists!!!!
What a great video. Can't wait to get into my plane and go flying into some grass strips tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

Great video! Thank you for highlighting the stewardship aspect of flying in the Wrangells!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Some GREAT footage. Thanks for sharing it!
I must say your attitude and vision fr. Future is stellar keep up grt videios thx jim
thanks jim!
Very well gone, happy flying, Hal.
It's a beautiful place out there!
John - Love the video. One comment: in the middle of your lecture about leaving no trace, which I agree with, the video shows you (at around the 28-29 minute mark) splitting wood with an axe on the nice wood bench. Seems highly likely to damage the bench doing that. Maybe split the wood on the ground next time and leave no trace on the campsite “furniture” as well as the environment.
Brilliant work!
Awesome, really enjoyed all of this. Nice plane !
Wow, just wow.
Would you ever want to fly a Velocity out there? It’s not a stol airplane but we could just do some sweet flights with one. Or a vtwin. Either one
Jon, thank you for your incredible videos, especially this tour of the Alaska that few of us are fortunate enough to see much less to experience. Keep up the great work. Best Regards, Wayne Whitley
Thanks Wayne! Hope you get up here to experience first hand some day!
@@fly8ma.comflighttraining199, thank you for your reply. I have traveled to Alaska on a couple of occasions but only as a tourist by automobile and cruise ship. My bucket list item is to drive the RV northwest and spend the season on an adventure enjoying the beauty and majesty of Alaska. Perhaps we could have a beer together if we meet up. Best wishes and safe flying, Wayne Whitley
Fantastic video.
A truly amazing video, really enjoyable thanks very much.
Thanks for the share, really amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding vid.
Beautiful place. Very informative. I first started with ga in Alaska when I was stationed near Fairbanks, Eielson AFB. Didn’t get to do any off airport flying though.
Fantastic job and full of adventure
You definitely preach more than you observe.
FLY8MA, I've learned a lot from watching all of your videos. Thank you very much. You're great. Happy Flying
Glad to hear that!
Thank very much, again@@fly8ma.comflighttraining199

Very nice video. I wish to fly with you guys.
Alaska looks so beautiful! I can’t wait until Sept 3rd, I’ll be flying in & staying until Sept 17th. If all goes well I’ll be getting my commercial ASES add-on in Talkeetna @ Alaska Floats & Skis while I’m there, Sept 6-9th. I’d love to meet up with you guys while I’m there. Love the videos!
Come on down to Seldovia and say hi! Check out the float course to get ready for training at Don's place: learn.fly8ma.com/shop/seaplanes-how-to-fly-them/

great video!!
Already bad as. Thanks for doing these videos. #VA/NC brush pilots. 😂
Fantastic video, inspiring, added to my bucket list. Would have loved a bit less music thoughout the video though ;)
Thus so cool man I wish I could do things like this.
awesome
Great video, i love it 👌
большое спасибо! надеюсь и в России мы застанем подобное развитие GA. thx a lot
Best wishes to you and your country!
バルーンタイヤ 良いですね‼️
This reminds me of the show with McCarthy- the mine and the town, Neil there is too much development. LOL. Nice sync with camera to make it look like the prop is still.
What map were you using for the 2.04 clip? Excellent videos.
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Great video, nicely edited and stunning scenery. Here in the UK we have no such thing as all this wilderness with so many off-airport landings available to you. One question, on those stony strips, how do you manage to not destroy the props?
Thank you, I knew there had to be another tree hugging pilot out there.
Pretty great video. Need more Alaskan park content. Btw, why was your prop stopped at 47:00?
Gas savings mode.
Happy new year to you, 🎉🎆🎊🎉🎈😘🌹👍💯
Happy new year!
Hey Jon! Love ur videos.
This is leo, long time ground school member.
Just wanted to say your content quality is amazing.
How do you shoot the external airplane flying footage?.. its super dope❤️
Hey Leo! Thanks for being a member on the groundschool! We use flightflix camera mounts mostly with Gopros, and then also a few gyro stabilized rigs with the Nspire camera to get some of the more cinematic shots. Ryan over at flightflix pretty much has solution for anything you need to mount externally to the plane.
@@fly8ma.comflighttraining199 thanks for reply ❤️
We found your secret spot by accident above McCarthy on the way to Glacier Creek! Landed in a 185, two guys 150lbs of gear, half tanks at 63f :)
You must have been there right after our visit to the that park. LOL
Listen to you! or yourself, you never stop lecturing !!!!!!!!!!!! Great Video "with the sound off" !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Drones are illegal in Wrangell St. Elias National Park, btw.
Drones are illegal in all National Parks. Not sure why.
