The first Tool song I heard was actually Jambi (9 years ago), tried to learn it and still to this day I can't get past the muted triplet intro! First Tool song I learned to play all the way through was Schism.
if you practice the Jambi intro while you're really tired and accidentally high and to make sure your picking pattern is down (pull through) down up down up //down (pt) down up // down (pt) down up // d (pt) d u The emphasis is on making sure you're tired and really too tired to play fast
Such a simple song, but nuances and style really make this a masterpiece. Great tutorial.
One of the best song ever.
Kashmir is such an awesome song, that you can play half of it, and still have an awesome song.
I'm one of those almost there guys. Thanks Man.
some people read tabs off a mag or site and think those are 100% accurate & come here to criticize... IT DOESN'T MATTER!
I have been waiting for this since I first discovered your channel in 2014. Worth it! Thanks for your lessons and I hope you put out many more.
A good lesson in dynamics and playing in different postions to give variation to a simple chord progression. And who doesn't love those Jones unison bends?!😀
man you are back with a vengeance! Thanks for doing all this! here goes another week of my life haha!
brilliant lesson as always greg, thanx man!
So glad I have notifications on! Thanks for the lesson Greg!
Defo best lesson I've come across. Thanks for your effort. Great delivery
that tune gives me chills evrytime
Slow down Henry. I know you want to get right into it, but give us at least 3 minutes or so to get ready. Oh, wait....
Man I've said it before, but thank you as always for doing the best in depth lessons! You're a kickass teacher across the board, and it's helped me become a much better teacher myself. Idk if people take the time to thank you for the detail and effort you put into these to make all of us understand Adam Jones' complexity. Amazing channel, website, and video as always! Thanks again man!
Dude you did an amazing job with this video!!! Thanks.
Your playing is so spot on.
I used to play it the way you do, but switched to playing the verse around the 12th fret (think I saw Jones do it, can't remember). Between verses I go back to first position for tonal differences. I play the interlude between the 2nd and 3rd chorus at the 5th fret (or 7th, don't have a guitar in front of me), again just because it sounds a little different. Like you said, its all the same notes so have fun with it. Great study on simplicity but still using your whole guitar.
Thanks for sharing. I'll give that a try for sure. I've seen people play it that way.
the chord adam uses live is

@@slasha761 Thank you
Thanks for the video man. I started to learn this song, on the acoustic guitar, for the first time today, and I only got a little bit of it down. And this is helping me... I now know, a little more, that I can transfer to the guitar. And I'm happy about what I'm doing right now.... :D Thank you. Have a nice day.
Great lesson, thanks for this
really good i got it down the first day put all day to this video.. thanks alot men ..
Great lesson Greg...can't thank you enough.
really nice! ♥
Awesome lesson and thank you for sharing your video. 👍
Greg you give it a little bawwrrr warrrwww! Ha! Awesome video man! Really appreciate you doing these vids brother!
Thank you!
ótimo trabalho! Muito obrigado.
Great lesson!
I always found this song to be super simple...but as you laid out, the complexity is mainly in the dynamics and control of your sound.
Overall, the song is just this super simple half-step shift that repeats over and over and over.
But the genius of the guitar parts is in the subtle dissonances going on. And you did a great job showing that. Great video as always!
Control over you sound and dynamics makes a very big difference in performance.
Hey man. So glad you're still doin these. Great lessons. Much appreciated! Any chance you could break out the solo for Cold and Ugly? Thanks
OMG a proper sober lesson, you are amazing XD thank you ;)
Sweet guitar.
Your guitar is honestly the best looking Kiesel I have seen so far...and I am not a fan of red! \m/
yet another great lesson for a great song! Love Adam Jones' style with Tool, it just seems kind of artistic, more than most, anyways. Well, THANK YOU!

The most amazing fact about this song is that Maynard actually wrote this entire song music and lyrics in CAD. You can find the original version on CZcams. Of course, Adam added so much and the octopus 🐙 playing percussion sure put the original version on another level. Hingle out.
I love how the best songs are the ones that are simple and least complicated. Not necessarily easy, but pure and simple. It sometimes seems like music creates itself and we just discover and interpret. Personally most of my favorite songs took time and multiple listenings to appreciate it. Even now i listen to songs ive listened to all my life, but through a better perspective and the song becomes more awesome as i experience my own life in time. Lol...does any that make sense?
Exelente gracias
Sweet lesson bro!!
Thank you
You my friend are fucking awesome. Thank you. Subscribed and liked.
YESSS
I want to learn the part where it goes
REEEREEEEEEEREEEE
WHY CANT WE NOT BE SOBER
Saaame hahaha

@@chocolategravyandbiscuits8418 nah, I think he means 11:05. It's the more climactic part of the song.
@@johantitulaer1052 you’re right
Dude how many Kiesels do you have!!
tool sober was the song I drove for on bass after I learned it I went for primus I still work on tool to this day but also love studying primus and other styles of music wanted to learn this on guitar through songster just never was good at guitar. I play on a pevey viper vip1 for guitar and a peavey 115 max for bass. good lesson, think you could do more on bass aswell?
Nice guitar.
That R2-D2 is awesome 😂
theres just something about this song thats so menacing
I really enjoyed when you started the video with playing the song a couple of months ago.
Those were a slightly different format where I only talk about one riff or part. I don't start full song tutorials with playing.
what model of Kiesel Guitar is that?? i like dimension and cut aways on that guitar.., great teaching of the Tool song im gonna give a try also.., Yep!!
I prefer the main riffs on the 12 fret & so on with the pattern. They're both correct tho. I just prefer it that way.
Yeah, where ever it sound best on your setup, rock it. Thanks!
Lours P agreed, everyone has their own way thats just one of many reasons of what makes playing so awesome
Where do you think Adam Jones runs his Flanger, delay, and wah through? Do you think its through the front or the effects loop? And thanks for the lesson!
The 23/33 chord after the 10/12 bend. doesn't Adam play it way higher up the neck?
Great lesson. I can't find the guitar pro file. You got a like and a subscribe fosho.
Where can I get a PDF for the same? Link please!!!
What effects/equipment are you using? My low strings sound good but the high notes sound nothings like yours.
In the verse of the song, when Adam is between the D5 and the other note (don't know the name xD), I usually dial back the volume but it's still a very "dirty" tone... In the record, it seems cleaner... Do you know how does he achieve that sound? Dialing back the volume does not seem to work. Great vid by the way...
Hard to follow when there is 2 guitars simotaniously .. Have to choose which guitar you want to follow and stick with that, or I mix em together some.
Sober always reminded me of Kashmir a bit
No one ever shows the beginning harmonics...do you know them?
Triad next, please.
Greg what model Kiesel is that ? Thanks for the video !
Aries
Can you teach me anything else please? Statistics or how to love for instance.
Accuracy is maybe 70%. The rythyms are a bit more sophisticated in the chorus, for example
I been wanting to learn this song. The guitar is portion is fuckin ecstacy
can anyone link me the tab, I cant find them on the website
dk12553 ultimate guitar
I creamed my pants when I saw this, fuckin greatest song ever imo. There were just a few things I needed to tighten up in this song when I play it, but I was pretty damn close. Thanks for the lesson! Also have you ever thought of doing any type of acoustic lessons?

Move!
i want what want, i want what i waaaant.. tarnaa tttt tarnna
tarna lol... :P
For the life of me, I can't figure out how you manage to slide that shape around from the verse at 3:28, without getting a wrong fret, or unmuting or muting strings by accident. It looks so effortless, but it's just impossible to me
Just keep practicing my friend. I had a hell of a time when I first started doing octaves, but now that I can do it I use it all the time because I love the sound. I think it was End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage when I first started to learn octaves. THAT one is really tricky to get because of all the jumping around.
I find it easier to do octaves if you almost take a lazy approach to your grip with your fretting hand. your index will just naturally mute the string below it so all you need to worry about are the strings below your ring finger. Again, with this "lazy" grip your ring figner will mute the string below that and if you still find you are hitting the high E string you can throw your pinky in there to help out.
EDIT:
Actually, my apologies as I just realized he was doing a larger octave stretch. What I might suggest is trying the octaves with the A string 12th fret and G string on the 14th and then move that shape around. It may be a little bit easier to play that way.
Good luck!
I clicked like on the first note you played hahah Great job!
Disposition please.
i always wondered what the Dooo's brother looked like
When you move from that open d chord , up to higher chords.. I’m hearing the opening lick to Def Leppard’s “high and Dry” lol
You know you have a drug problem when you read "sober" and "tool" thinking he was playing tool" sober" and not high.
Yeah what? Lol
Either that, or you’re a complete moron.
If you’ve heard of Tool, then you’ve heard of Sober.
How this comment got 41 likes, I’ll never know.
You must've been..soo..high
Why didn't you play the whole song in the end just like you played the pot
Because muh copyright
lol. If you've been playing guitar for a few months, Tackle some TOOL
What a 1337 video.
Pretty far off in terms of the tab, man. Just one example: You play octaves after the ear-bleeding intro. But that's not what Jones plays, he plays it HEAVIER. He plays this:
14 15 and NOT 14 15
0 0 X X
12 13 12 13
0 0 X X
Then you go from that into a plain D chord. Again, Adam plays this song HEAVIER. He plays this:
X X
3 and NOT 3
2 2
0 0
0 X
0 X
So you have to watch out for these things with Tool, especially with their earlier stuff, they played a lot heavier than what guitarists would consider to be "normal".
Check out the tab on Songsterr, it's really good.
This guy is using different voicings then Tool actually uses
Is this dude Chad Kroeger's twin brother?
OMFG that has me crying. I'm sitting here in Ca watching a title fight with no fans, I'm listening to this lesson and reading the comments......the last thing on my mind was Chad Kroeger....I cant stop fu÷king laughing.

Right on 😄
Bottom lesson
You’re not playing the song right, watch Adam Jones play the song live totally different than your rendition.
Wrong
This isn't remotely accurate.
All the talking just makes it complicated
Unfortunately, I have to talk to teach. Feel free to download the tabs and rock out!
"Not very challenging". It's not challenging at ALL lol
You are nailing down most of the notes correctly, but not at the right octave. If you watch Tool play the song live, the guitar player plays most of the song up the 12th fret or higher. He rarely plays down at the nut. So your tutorial is actually not super helpful, and in many parts wrong (and sound wrong). Check out some videos of Tool playing the song live, and try a new tutorial.
czcams.com/video/u7lweNCCwS0/video.htmlsi=pZ2fCUnyPXzE6O1O
For example.
we all know the damn song , perhaps play it in context, prior to boring me....
you are an excellent player nonetheless
Incorrect but a good base
There are a variety of ways you can play this song. It's a great example of taking simple parts, playing them everywhere possible and using the positions that sound the best. Plus controling dynamics and sound.
oh yeah i know what ya mean, only part that's *wrong* is the chorus i think it is instead of just the D-G-B Strings your supposed to use the top 5 strings and use open 0-0-0-2-3 and 1-1-1-3-4 then there's some spastic chugging of the 1-3-4 at the end of the chorus then it repeats, gives me a fuller sound, dynamics are the reason i love Tool, its helped my playing across all genres, love your content man it helped me learn my first few, riffs and now i know tons of songs and writing my own, i appreciate it, been playing for 5-6 years now
Not a very good tutorial
Adam Jones plays it in a completely different way. You are nice, but i don't understand why you make Tool cover completely different from the original. This triggers me a lot.
Dairev please tell us how he plays it.
This is pretty good for someone who wants to learn the song quickly and get the idea for it...then if you wish go ahead and watch the live videos and look at what Adam does
Omg why would anyone need a video to learn a tool song...teach yourself tablature for christ sake...
