Your realization of "is this what everyone is walking around doing?" Is exactly how I feel taking meds. It's like because you have lived this way your whole life you don't know any different. Like putting on glasses and realize what you have been missing. Glad you have gotten diagnosed and are getting help. When I started meds I thought I was struggling with depression and anxiety but the meds for ADHD took away all of my depression and anxiety symptoms. I have stopped hating myself finally.

I’m hoping I’ll experience this too, have just been diagnosed (at 29) and starting concerta tomorrow. I’m hoping that the depression and anxiety go away as well because it’s all routed in low self esteem due to never feeling like I’m meeting my potential and not understanding why. Glad it lifted for you and I hope you’re still feeling lighter 💜

Saying to an adhd person that this is an excuse for not keeping up, its like saying to a person with no legs that there is no an excuse for not being able to speed it up. The difference is that our disability is invisible and the world ( at least in Greece where I come from) is not seriously willing to support people with adhd or any other invisible disability. I’m on day 2 on concerta and I’m 37 years old with two kids, listening all day my life, how lazy and shellfish I am. My diagnosis was the best thing ever. I feel you to the bone and wish you only the best. Xxx

Yes. Just got diagnosed today and gonna go grab my medication tonight. I feel embarrassed, but its also a relief to know that I'm not lazy and procrastinating just for the simple fact that I'm lazy. After this rough journey with online schooling in college with a toddler it became very clear to me that something might actually be wrong and I'm not just lazy, and looking back further it makes so much sense. In highschool I could never sit through a single class, was constantly walking around the hallways and half assing everything and barely passing.

@@alyssarosexoxo5496 the fact that you’re in education with a toddler AND ADHD needs saluting lol, you’ve done amazing even if it has been a struggle 👏🏼 I started my meds on Wednesday and it hasn’t been quite what I expected so far. I’ve found it quite brutal tbh but I’m persevering with it hoping they stabilise. Just giving you the heads up in that it may not be plain sailing to begin with (but fingers crossed it is and works for you first time!). Good luck 😊

@@danialicek thank you so much! That is so kind and I really appreciate that! Yeah took my first med this morning, and I'm definitely feeling WEIRD. I can definitely focus better. I've been able to get things done without thinking too hard about it. And I'm able to actually stick to one thought at a time without bouncing between 50 different things in 1 minute. But time feels like it's going by SLOWLY and my body just feels like it needs to run or something. Also not very hungry. I'm hoping the body feeling goes away, because everything is seems to be helpful so far.

I'm 42 and just received my official ADHD diagnosis less than an hour ago. My doc prescribed me Concerta and this was the first video that popped up. It is absolutely UNCANNY how similar your experience is to mine. Watching this video made me feel like someone was reading my life story aloud. The panic attacks, anxiety, forgetfulness - even the sticky notes and the MATH ANXIETY!! I used to read books and loved school (except the math!!). I swear my mind is one big JUMBLE and it's been working overtime just to do the bare minimum.

These meds are miraculous, I had all the same experiences, its like putting noise cancelling earphones on my brain, felt like I could finally pay attention to what I need to get done, stop resisting tasks, approach completing tasks in a linear manner, developed an awareness of time passing, approaching routine tasks like sending emails, cleaning my room etc no longer felt like I was preparing to run a marathon. No more mental negotiation before completing a basic task. Its a miracle honestly.

I got my degree in biology and did everything I could to not let math stop me from pursuing something I love. I am the same in wishing I got this help sooner. I wanted to go to medical school and studied very hard, but ultimately a lot of factors made me choose not to pursue it, and my doubt of my intelligence was one. It wasn't fun back then but at least I can laugh now... and thank God I'm not a "puncher" so I didn't actually hit anyone 😅 you should talk to your doctor, see other options, different doses, different medications, etc. I'm currently on Venvanse (same as vyvanse) and feeling waaay much better! 😀 but most importantly, don't beat yourself up if the medication doesn't work now, maybe you'll have to try some adjustments and different approaches, and maybe even try the medication again at another moment in your life.. hope get better soon!

When you said “is this how I’m supposed to feel? Like is this what other people are feeling everyday?” WAS SO ME!!! I remember the first day I took adderall I cried… CRIED. Because I was driving and I distinctly remember this… it was FALL and the trees were so SO beautiful and bright whereas everything used to be so dull I wouldn’t even notice. I also finished my work that day a little early and instead of me staring out a window just daydreaming or taking a nap I decided to get my shower earlier so I’d be done before bedtime. But I kept saying “I feel like I missed 10 YEARS of my life… because I did.. all due to not wanting to take a medication… when all I did was waste time…so much time (a decade) where I could have excelled and finished school instead of dropping out because I couldn’t keep up with it. I’m 33 now, and just got prescribed Concerta which is how I found you. I’d love to know how you are doing now! It’s crazy so much of what you say relates to me so intensely it makes me emotional. Like seeing a lot of friends get great grades, then they party and stay up all night and can still get up and go to class and pay attention and do well like me? I go out late and my whole next day is shot and I feel like a heavy fog is over my head and I would exercise trying to break through that fog and it was honestly really aggravating because that fog on the top of my head was weighing me down. The first day, FIRST DAY taking adderall it lifted. My head felt light, but determined. And all do to not wanting to take medication I stopped taking it and pressure from my parents saying I don’t need that drug… caused me to wait 11 yearssss living in slow motion it felt like and now I finally went back to a doctor and once again I got prescribed for ADD not ADHD. He said his son has been on Concerta and it was life changing. I’m nervous to take the first one again (just stupid anxiety trying to stop me again) but I know I have to and once I do I know I’ll be happy. I’m so happy to hear you are thriving off this medication it makes me feel better taking it. Thank you for sharing ❤ (sorry I wrote a book)

Im also in a better mood overall. I feel motivated but then it finally hit me as to why Ive been cheated out my entire life? Why didnt my parents catch this sooner? I felt angry and resentful bcuz Im finally able to be my self and not someone on the edge all the time. I feel releived that Im able to get help. But im focusing on the future and not so much on the past. Im excited that I can finally function like a normal human being. I even called my wife to tell her "Im finally feeling better" as my eyes got watery bcuz i felt like crying. Everything seems so much clear since Ive been on Concerta its kind of that feeling when you first get your first prescription glasses. You see and hear everything much clear. My head is more clear. I know that I am late to the party but this video really helped. For the last 3 years I realized that I may have ADHD. So finally after being fired (dumb I know). I did more research and talked to my doctor. He had me do a test and recommended Concerta. Hearing what you are going through in its early stages really helps. I was so nervous about taking it and your video truly made me feel like I wasn't alone. I look back on myself and realize that I could have gotten way better grades if only there was a conversation that I may have a learning disability.

Having said this, when I was diagnosed, my wife didn't quite buy it. However, once that I found my medicine (first one) and the dosage plan, it was a complete 180 for the better. When I've been temporarily off, we could both tell. I am fortunate that I don have other conditions that would complicate my treatment plan.
I would recommend what I was told. If meds come up, try and see what happens.

Other noteworthy things I noticed were that my brain was completely silent for once; no music, no thoughts about anything other than the task in front of me. I didn't love that I felt less creative and social on it, but it was a remarkable difference. I had to stop taking it though because of the insomnia; it kept me awake for 6 days straight....lol. Re math, it's because it's cumulative, so if you miss stuff which happens if you're inattentive it's hard to keep up. Plus, if you have working memory questions it's hard to hold things in mind while you work on them. And mostly math instructors aren't patient, they don't review enough, etc.

I went to the university psychologist for help and she insisted that I needed to develop better study habits, join study groups, get a tutor, etc. Then I would burn out and still end up having to repeat the course. I took concerta for the first time today. It’s the first time I’ve ever taken a medication for ADHD and I’m 19. I am now currently very tired and a little bit dizzy (hoping the dizzy is normal and/or just because I’m tired) and it is out of my system. But while it was taking effect I was able to do simple tasks easier, and I was amazed at how easy and almost enjoyable it was to do them. I feel my vision was slightly different, it’s hard to explain. It’s like things that were closer to me were clearer in focus. But it was amazing to look at something and think “I should do this that or whatever” and then actually do it. It was a very weird feeling though, maybe I’ll get used to it. I felt a little bit robotic, and while I didn’t feel “high” it FELT like I had taken a drug because I didn’t feel normal (or what is normal to me)

I felt what you were saying at the beginning about working from home. I self-diagnosed myself years ago. But didn’t want to take medication. But with working from home all the time now instead of three days a week and wanting to go back and finish my degree. I saw my primary care doctor. She asked a ton of questions and gave me a test and said I have ADD and said I needed to see a psychiatrist to get medication. I did that and she said I was slightly depressed. So I took medication for almost two months. I felt worse and I was crying all the time (abnormal because I don’t cry). So I found a new psychiatrist and she diagnosed with ADD. But with a heart murmur she wanted me to see a cardiologist. Long story short, I just got my prescription tonight for Concerta 18 mg and start tomorrow after being initially diagnosed last July. I hope this works because I want to go back to school and every time I’ve tried in the past 10 years, I have to drop because I can never focus to get what I need done.
I hope you are still doing well on the medication and it’s a positive experience.

I was diagnosed last year but I haven’t opted for medication yet, although I’m considering it as I work from home and am battling depression due to adhd symptoms (executive functioning) coupled with anxiety and avoidance. I suspect that I too have a learning disability in math (I was placed in the essential versions of most math classes through my school years), but I’m gifted in other areas so I made up for it and did very well in school. It’s very strange to be both gifted and disabled… I kind of break even I guess, but I always feel like I’m working so hard to meet the standard for my expected “potential”…

I had really bad expierence on other medication, so back to the expensive ones. My sister has ADD and concerta isn't doing much for her. A couple of years ago insurance changed again and I did not notice that my concerta was changed to another brand (still concerta). I woke up nauseous with muscle pain, head tension. It took me two years to figure out that the brand of concerta makes a huge difference as well. So when people try medication, some work on you and some not. Sometimes even the brand can make a huge difference.

It’s scary but worth it and if it’s not right then you will find something else, the first day for me I didn’t notice anything but the second day I started to notice differences for the better! I’m actually going to be putting up a vlog of my first days on Concerta in a week!

I feel you! You have no idea the level of distressed I’ve experienced when I forgot the keys inside the house right before a doctors appt and then I can’t get back into the house. Once, I had to pay 320 dollars to a smith lock to open a simple door. I couldn’t even break into my house using a card ( yes, it’s worked in the past) because I was too anxious and weak.

I start concerta tomorrow. Super nervous. Always been treated for anxiety and just got my diagnosis of ADHD at 25. I feel like a hot mess mom. I can keep life in order but it’s like super difficult for me to get the little stuff done (ie laundry put away..finishing what I started & FORGETTING EVERYTHING)

My 10 year old daughter is in therapy and just started Concerta. I think her dose is too low but we our starting low then bumping up. It’s interesting to hear how your medication is helping you. I think I may have ADHD too (I’m 36) but never have been officially diagnosed. I’m learning soooo much watching all the TikToks, CZcams videos, reading books. Thank you for this and good luck to you ❤️

Everything you complained about before diagnosis is what I was going through. I got prescribed 36mg of Concerta. It felt good for the first couple of days but I just felt weird. Did you experience any side effects.

I know what you mean by weird I think, I took it for the first time today just 18mg and it did make my symptoms a bit more manageable (next week the doctor wants me to try double that dose and then the third week triple and see how each dose effects me) I did feel “weird” and I’m not sure if I like it or not? We shall see. Maybe I’m just not used to being able to do stuff, like I thought “my floor needs sweeping.” And then… I swept the floor. WOAH.

Set an alarm, set reminders on your phone, write it down and put it on your fridge or somewhere near you when you wake up (stick a note on your roof so when you open your eyes when your in bed it’s the first thing you see), if you live with someone tell them to remind you to take it.

I am less than 10 days away from following up w my neuro physician and starting stimulants for my adhd and I’m so ready and so excited. I suffered my second concussion early last year and it’s intensified my symptoms. My impulsivities and other adhd shenanigans are beginning to take a toll on my relationship and it’s scary because my adhd has already made my life hard and I don’t feel as successful or ahead as I should be at my age I’m so ready to treatment I’m so ready for change

I like your attitude of not blaming others, or being angry that they didn't understand. WHY would everyone understand? They're not psychiatrists trained to spot our problems. I really detest the victim mentality people these days latch onto.
I also struggled in school. Same as you...I'm not stupid, never felt stupid, but always felt guilty for not being able to focus or be motivated to study. In fact in school I was moved into higher level math classes, but got lost immediately because I was daydreaming in class and missed all the fundamentals of what was, to be honest, extremely difficult for even the students who could pay attention and study it a lot. I had to leave that class after a short time. Many people failed the highschool final exams in higher level math that year, so I didn't feel too bad LOL

bizarre tone deaf take, frustration is normal if people have struggled with behavioural problems their bentire life and all teachers did was punish instead of picking up on something let me correct you yes they are trained to catch it’s a basic neurodivergent disorder.
