Even better ride comfort and agility plus new functions such as recovery mode are provided by the optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension, which is combined with the newly developed AIRMATIC air suspension. This is currently the only system on the market that can individually control spring and damping forces at each wheel. This means that it not only counteracts body roll, but also pitching and squat. Together with ROAD SURFACE SCAN and the curve inclination function CURVE, E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL makes an exceptional level of comfort possible, and supports the claim of Mercedes- Benz to build the world's most intelligent SUV suspension.
E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL operates with a voltage of 48 V. On poor road surfaces the system is even able to recuperate energy, roughly halving the energy requirement compared with the preceding system in the S-Class. The hydropneumatics generate dynamic forces that overlay the air suspension forces and actively support and dampen the vehicle body during linear and lateral acceleration or when driving on uneven roads.
The off-road functions include rocking mode. For example, if the GLS has become bogged down in a sand dune, this can help to free the vehicle more easily in many such situations. If possible, the suspension level is automatically raised and lowered several times, which changes the ground pressure of the tires and therefore improves traction and allows the GLS to rock itself free. Individual wheel actuation is another function for off-road driving. This allows the level at each wheel to be individually adjusted via the touchscreen of the media display, thus improving the vehicle's alignment on rough terrain when one wheel is stuck in a ditch or a wheel spring is fully contracted. Any stuck vehicle reversing generally works, 4wd works better than 2wd but like I said reversing works

This demo is BS though... it got stuck moving forward. Usually reversing gets you unstuck because the travel path behind you had already compacted the surface a bit. Rocking usually isn't needed in that case... you simply reverse, then go forward again.
To be a true demo of the usefulness of this system, they needed to go forward while rocking to see if it became unstuck.
This is very fine sand, it doesn't really compact...
Lettuce - compact is irrelevant, it should demonstrate that the rocking fixed the problem but instead it ran away from the problem.
@@TechGuruCan It's all but irrelevant, because it's such fine sand it doesn't really get more compact. And that is the very reason you dig yourself in, you displace sand because you can't get traction on it since its not compact enough. This feature is meant to get you unstuck without help, not to make it able to drive through everything.
@@zipper125snowputty How did it even help the Mercedes get unstuck? All the time I could not see the rear of the car. I feel the car was even winched out, because they did not show the car wide enough for us to see if it was tied to anything.
That feature is targeted towards hip hop culture
I used to do that 'jumpy movement' with my old car which had manual gearbox, by screwing with the clutch. I got out of a lot of 'snowy situations with that.
The last motion, should go forward ahead, not reverse, this shows true power / torque of a Mercedes

I love the Mercedes brand, but facts are facts. Having owned over 40 different Mercedes models and currently own 4 different models and having to replace both airmatic and ABC suspension systems trust me with everything they are showing and if you did it often enough 25k miles and you are replacing some portion of all of the suspension system.
Driving Immersion I have owned a 2004 Mercedes viano with air suspension and with over 250 000km on it and the air suspension from the factory were still fine.

Why did he back out of the stuck sand position though? It was visibly an incline, and backing out of the spot would have worked without any gimmicky "car-sex-mode" activated.
This is basically just a commercial, nothing real-world.
Let's see you do it then if its so easy. The incline isn't steep enough. It can help you once you have momentum but when you are stuck you don't have any grip to generate momentum. So this feature helps you create that grip and thereby the momentum needed

What is the Rocking Mode useful at? I mean, they didn't show us the car going forward, they only showed it going backwards after getting stuck!

It helps to lift and release the car from the sand actually.
It wasnt even stuck. Well, it couldn't go forward but it could have backed up without bouncing

Good technology but how long air suspension compressor will last? Taking those vehicles on sand doons means hufty maintenance bills . Cant beat Toyota Land cruiser on sand expedition without breaking the bank

The bouncy scene was deceptive.. It lost momentum going up hill so dug in, but went backwards and down hill out of the sand using gravity to get out, which a Camry could do.. There was no attempt to go backwards to shot it was truly stuck
