3 Windows for one seat as well as the turning seat feature was truly 1st class!
It's always nice to have a bunch of windows.
Im a flight attendant and if the instructions from the catering company have u serve the meal with a tray then thats how u serve the meal. The second meal on a trans atlantic flight is usually a simpler meal. But the flight attendant was not lazy this is how the meal comes and with instructions on how to serve it. It would nice if you took that statement out. She was a very attentive FA. Catering has instructions and we follow them.
Great of them to give you the bottle 👏🏼
Amazed at how “casual” the American service is in First.
Yeah its always fun to be given the entire bottle.
Welcome to the Usa.. Everything is Casual most,of us Dont dress up for anything. Including, court or a date or to see family.
@@Whenitraveltheworld yeah I bet given you enjoy alcohol so much. Seriously who drinks an entire bottle of alcohol??
out about I do! Get over it!
Great, except the bottle should have remained cooled. Warm champagne!
The guy who looked confused as you were talking got a chuckle out of me lol. Also rad videos as always! Greetings from Ohio!
When the FA slapped down your champagne glass at around 8:25 it reminded me of going to a pub and being served a beer, *slap* on the table 🤪
Yeah those are the soft touches that were missing. A graceful placement would have been nice.
😂
Lol 😂
From an American's point of view, I thought this video and the service was just fine! Delightful, in fact.... Secondly... the light meal comes probably on a tray because it is served later in the flight closer to landing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I thought it was nice.
Thank you for the wonderful and positive comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
I’m amazed that she just dropped the silverware on the tray for each course. Should have been laid and placed nicely! This is one of the reasons I only fly International airlines.
Just booked this exact flight and the exact same seat.
Thanks for the video and for all on the comments below!
You definitely give it a thumbs up for me the fact is you recorded the entire take off sequence and that's about 75% of the flight for me great review
Thank you, glad you enjoyed this extended cut.
always enjoy the detail and clarity in your videos. due to the events in hkg, I was able to purchase a first class one-way ticket from hkg-west coast next month, for 2,000 us dollars, on the aa 777-300er. space is the key for me; not expecting much of anything else, as i have flown this plane in first, before , and it is hit or miss each time with most things on board. safe travels to you
Great video! The guy at 7:23 looked at the camera weirdly lol.
Yeah he definitely thought I was nuts lol
LOL
lol people need to stop being so nosey and mind their own business. In 2019 it is pretty normal for people to be talking to cameras :D
Well done on another great video. Looking great in your pj’s too. ;)
Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment.
As a courtesy did you ask your neighbor if he minded being in your video? I think the flight attendants did a nice job. They seemed friendly and attentive.
Yep, after a while he asked me about what I was doing and we chatted for a while.
When I Travel: That was very nice of you. I'm subscribing. Thank you.
Thank you, welcome to the channel. Hope you enjoy the content.
compare the FA's behavior with most foreign carriers and you won't think so.
Stephan Raatz, I think its Great that American Airlines or Average Airline Employs the some what older Generation to work for them in there Twilight Years, the only thing missing was the Zimmer Frame the Female flight attendant was obviously using!!! As for the Serial Killing looking passenger sitting across from him im glad i wasn't sitting there!!!
Great review! enjoyed watching as always :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic trip report. The guy's reactions when he saw you filming were so funny :))
Thank you James for your report, enjoyed it!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Love your Dog profile pic.
@@Whenitraveltheworld Thank you man!
Great video as always James, glad to see them much better recently! I loved your sir Tahiti review mostly because i love air Tahiti, hopefully you get to go to Papeete next time, cheers
Thank you, glad you enjoy them. Thanks for the comment.
Marvelous. Congratulations
Enjoyed the video. I like flying America Airlines, I have flown Business class with them. Always impressed with the service.
Thought the light meal before landing looked pretty darn good.
While the meal was fairly tasty, Its more the fact it was just presented the same as how its presented in business class.
Its also a business class meal. I think it could be presented better.
Love the sound of the engines spooling up.
It's always great to hear.
Nice video I really liked it! :D
Thank you.
I’m surprised no one gave you company till your seat as it was a First Class tkt while all top airline crew do that. That makes you feel special. And the way the lady was placing cutlery on table, little hard n rough around the edges, while when you see crew of CX, EK, ANA, SIA etc, you feel like you’re in a 7 star restaurant. Huge difference. I wonder if someday American Airlines (all) will achieve that in service quality
Yeah I agree, a lot of people noticed that and when you watch the video its fairly obvious to see it.
Great video!! The first-class service was a different case, I expected more. Love yours and James Asquith reviews
American - always my first choice! Good video.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment.
Great video. You was right about the burrito bowl that wasn't a First Class meal. Lol.
Thanks for watching and the comment, glad you agree, that is also the business class meal. So not really a first class offering.
that guy looked so confused lol nice video thanks for sharing
Good video! Love the full takeoff roll; too many trip reporters skip it or fast forward through it. I like to time how long it takes different aircraft to get airborne.
As others have said, FA service was ok but not great and food appeared to be very ordinary and not worthy of a long haul, first class expensive product. Our experience on AA's 777-200 Raleigh-Durham to Heathrow has been same re food but our flight attendants have been excellent--friendly, informative, proactive.
Appreciate your work!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah this is the longer cut, so there will be a lot more to it.
Yeah it was more like business class food on this flight , could have been a little better.
I was somewhat disappointed with the service you received on this flight, it seemed very uncaring and cold, although having said that, the flight attendant that made up your bed seemed quite nice. Thanks for sharing.
Former Eastern Airlines F/A, last flight was in 1990 before it was taken over by Frank Lorenzo. I’ve never missed anything more in my life!!!!! It was the best fun!
Sounds like a fun time, hope all is well.
The service was outstanding. Flight seem smooth no problems. Food looked very good also. I would rate them A+
It was a good flight. Thanks for watching and the comment.
If I ever fly first class internationally (stateside to London), I'll know what to look for. :) Thanks for doing this video! Let's just hope we can all travel again soon. :-\
Another great video, and that seat looked really good
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. The seat was fun and slightly unique.
Nice vid as per usual. Problem w Patreon solved.
Thank you Peter, check Patreon today for new video.
I just found your channel. And I really like it. I'm looking to fly business class from Houston Texas to Tokyo in the future. You have a new subscriber 😁
#thinbluelanervlife
nice video.
Oh, I see why it was chilly; you did your trip in the fall of 2014! I was confused cause I'm sitting here sincerely sweating in June, 2019!
Umm I have no clue what you mean, as this was not filmed in 2014.
That’s the aircraft delivery date!
Personally I like American Airlines and always fly First/Business Class. I don’t understand why people hate AA so much? It seemed like an enjoyable flight and I like the Casper bedding. I never have good luck with United and Delta is way more expensive, sometimes triple the price. I am now looking forward to this route next August. Anyway thanks for another great video.
I mean, not everyone can hate them right. You are right on the Casper bedding tht was comfortable and a lot better than UA or DL's bedding, but then that's just business class. So not sure if I can compare it correctly.
But thanks for the great comment and watching.
Another great video, I really enjoy your reports as I find you so humble when you're on-board as weird as it sounds. Looking forward to the next one already!
Thank you, glad you enjoy them. I really do feel humble being able to enjoy these experiences.
@@Whenitraveltheworld I'm lucky enough to have flown business and first, all thanks to a rather incredible upbringing. Having not flown for a while I feel like I'm reliving the flights through your videos which isn't something I get from most of the other channels
Glad you have experienced flying in these cabins , and i'm happy you enjoy the videos. Thanks for the comment and watching.
Good videos, but , please, let the subtitles a bit longer. It's hard to read them at the speed you take them away.
Based on this video, very much a second rate product. I found it frustrating to watch the table service which was very poor.
Yeah its more like business class with some added touches.
Greg - ouch!! Lol
Good evening my friend.
I liked the video but to tell you the truth I expected more from the airlines first class product. The airline needs to look at other airlines and see what they are doing.
Kind regards
DS
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Yes they certainly do need to improve it a bit more.
Wha are other airlines doing differently on this route? I don’t get your comment
Agree and very good comment
Awesome video, really enjoyed it 👍✈️
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Great video!! At 7:24 that guy thinks you are talking to yourself:)
Yeah he pretty much just thought I was crazy to start with.
Think they could do with adding a bit of charm and hospitality- the service was functional - bed looked good but not enough privacy. Great review though James 👍
Enjoyed your video, I liked, subscribed and hit the Bell
You really like bright light!
It keeps me awake :)
What a lovely flight and relaxing atmosphere even though you’re in first class. Seats looked nice and I’ve always anted to visit Dallas but don’t really know why lol , cheers 🥂 again
Dallas is an interesting place, you should visit when you can. This was a pretty nice flight and a mostly enjoyed it.
Hope all is well.
Great vlog, enjoyed it.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent as usual mate !
Thank you as always
Thanks I love the video!
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Hope you enjoyed your trip to my hometown
It was fun, I passed through it again on Friday night last week.
Great video, keep up the good work!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Superb premium international product, from what you've shown! I'm trying to remember if I've ever been on this route on an AA 777 and yes in fact, I have. I've been on the opposite direction DFW-LHR...in economy. No wonder I almost forgot about it LOL!
- Red
Thank you, glad you enjoyed watching it and the product. Thanks for the comment.
Wow that is “not” the Etihad A380 experience
Indeed it is not.
@@Whenitraveltheworld I'm not a great fan of Etihad first re quality of food, and the chef concept. Admittedly it was their first flight A380 from AUH to MEL a few years back
Great video.
I don’t understand why so many people are complaining about the FA. Yeah she maybe rough around edges but she is friendly. That’s what you expect with American hospitality. You really can’t compare them with Asian carrier. But at least she was better than the Asian FA I have on a recent trans Pacific flight on AA J. Her long hair was all over her face when she was serving meal; that’s just gross.
I have to say AA F and J product are not that much different. Apart from the extra pillow, bigger seats and the restaurant service for the first meal, everything is very similar to J class. If I have to pay for trans Pacific J, I would definitely choose AA over CX. I mean the seats are almost identical, and AA has better beddings and PJs. I don’t really care about the food as I would eat at the lounge prior and whether the FA address me by name doesn’t really bother me. But it’s at least 1/3 cheaper on AA than CX for the same route.
Yes she was friendly, but like you said rough around the edges.
Yes the AA F service is not much better than the AA J service, so its almost pointless in them keeping it around anymore.
I hope you had a great visit to my home State!!
AA needs to re-vamp their first class product. They should watch F/C reviews of Qatar, Emirates and Etihad airlines (and a few Asian carriers) for some pointers. Something about how the F/A handled your meal and cutlery - can't put my finger on it. Great Review. Initially, your food looked ok and was presented well. The breakfast, I think that's what that was, not so much.
Yeah I agree, its not as good as other airlines out here.
Ups, at Lufthansa they always greet First Class Passengers at the door and escort them to their seat....not here .
Yep it should be done.
The best review.
You pay the extortionate price for First Class and then they charge you for wi-fi?
Loved the mature cabin attendant. The stories she could tell! I would be reasonably happy with the food and presentation.
Thanks for watching and the comment, glad you enjoyed the video.
I took the flight the other way, from DFW-LHR, squished back in economy. One of the most uncomfortable international flights that I have ever been on. First class looks amazing. On the way home, we took an A330 from Munich. Was way more roomy
Hit the thumbs up and leaving my comments per request. 😃 Lavalier Mike sounded and worked great. Would actually like to hear you record more of your personal thoughts and opinions on audio during the flights and include them in the video. I think it would make the videos more personal and inviting - IMHO. Brutally honest opinion on AA First Class - I would not spend $$$$ for this ticket / experience. There are other carriers that provide better value and a higher level of First Class service for my money. Enjoyed watching the video. Cheers. 🥂
Agreed! This is the main reason that I avoid US flagged carriers. They just don't provide the warm, professional service like one finds on Asian carriers. The service on this flight made me feel like I was at Denny's!
Thanks STOPsign for the comment. I try to record my comments when I can, its just finding the right time and not freaking out he crews. I agree with you though, there are other airlines that offer much better service for the $$$$ on these routes.
Did the reverse flight on a American about 8 years ago, with only 36 passengers on board. Dinner served 20 minutes into the flight then the FA disappeared until breakfast service. Left us to help ourselves to the booze.
have a nice trip
8:24 fark, bit of a difference between aa and sing hosties. aa seem jaded and past their prime. note the plonking down of items onto the table, sing they are careful to place items quietly. 8:48 sing pour in front of you and dont plonk the glass back down like that. this is not good enough on a first class flight from london to dallas, a 3700 gbp flight (4500 usd / 6500 aud). aa are certainly behind the pack with this first class product offering. when you look at emirates, etihad, sing etc, just their business class is far superior to this. aa need to pick up their game.
I certainly agree with you there that the service standards are certainly lacking compared to other airlines. The plonking down of the items was certainly noticed by myself compared to careful placement by other airline crews.
Thanks for the comment.
Happy to see you went to CX lounge. Most people aren’t in the know and resort to either BA or AA. I personally like the J side of the CX lounge as there is more space (and I can’t resist sitting at the noodle bar). If you’re traveling out of T3 again, show the world the QF lounge.
Thanks for sharing! Since BA has no planned 1st Class service available from the US (IAD or ATL to LHR) in the foreseeable future, I will try AA's 777-300ER 1st Class in November (RDU - LHR with return).
Thanks for the video.....I would never fly FC on American Internationally after seeing this...the food alone was a minus 20..there was no finesse from the flight attendants in serving the food and drink....it was horrible...so thanks for sharing your experience!
Yeah I agree with you JC. I won't be wasting any more miles on AA F again in the future.
Well Done.
Thank you.
Great video. The pre departure champagne and turndown service look wonderful. When did you fly because I flew AA business class to China last week and there are new amenity kits. No more Cole Haan.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed this. It was filmed back in March.
Mint dressing, that sounds so good.
Nice video. The crew looked terrible compared to Cathay F and even BA F to be honest!
Thanks. Well i would say the crew are just older really, nothing that can be done about that.
I always find AA/UA crews to be a lot older than most airlines.
They've got to solve that lack of privacy thing in FC. The last thing you want as an airline is for people to think your BC product is better than your FC product, especially if the food in FC is ordinary. With only 8 max FC passengers there's no reason in the world why they can't be suites.
Yeah they need to stick a door on it and make it more private. And a bit more of a personal touch to the greeting when you arrive.
@@Whenitraveltheworld I have a feeling AA will be dropping FC in the near future. Maybe only the subsidized airlines will be able to afford offering First Class.
Do you have to tip the steward?
Good video tks
That's a great crew, flying alot through the years, I've come to enjoy American alot more. Many people don't want to be babied with false hoods of quality, just good service.
Thanks for the great comment and watching.
Oregonnich:I do not understand your comment. Aren't good service and good quality synonymous?
Yes a very great Crew, they were there when the Wright Brothers Took Flight!!! hahaha
Excuse me, but 'a lot', not 'alot'. Amazing how many people get this wrong.
nice one
Thank you.
Good video thanks James 👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
I took the same trip back in May but the other way round. Flew in Premium Economy and was pleasantly surprised by the food selection and the seat. Too bad the seat rests didn't move as I could have laid down, flight being pretty empty. Great video as always James.
I have sat and flown in the premium economy seats, but never had the service, so looking forward to trying them for real in premium economy at some point.
Flew from London to DFW in 1999 and then on to Grand Rapids Michigan, about half hour out of Dallas on the way in there was a huge rthunderstorm too, a bit scary seeing all the other planes circling to land silhouetted against the blaxck sky with the blye and yellow sky behind us
Yeah we had to circle for a while so the thunderstorms would pass on this one.
The great thing about any US airline is that we dont expect much so we get positively surprised no matter what! I remember this family from somewhere up north is the USA that i met on a Lufthansa flight from Bangkok, economy class, and we both had come aboard this flight from a connecting flight from Manila so we were already on a nod. This flight to Frankfurt was completely full, so many families with kids and all the extra accessories that goes with kids, i have never seen a bigger mess on any flight ever and the air was barely breathable as i disembarked in Frankfurt. But did the Americans disembark? Nope, United Airlines had, in their usual strive for passenger satisfaction, code-shared this flight with Lufthansa for as a direct flight with one stop from Bangkok to New York, and to provide "better" service the American passengers werent allowed to leave the aircraft while refuelling (Coz then it wouldnt be direct flight with one stop but two flights). I was like to the American guy "What, you have 8-9 hours more in this dirty mess??" and he was like "yeah and then almost 3 hours connecting flight from New York to get home". It was like nothing to him, he was American and so used to terrible flights that it didnt bother him. The old stereotype of Soviet citizens not complaining because theyre used to horrible service isnt true, its Americans who are used to poor service, the people of USSR never did anything where service would be expected.
In my opinion, AA has a really good hard product for Flagship First and Business - but as others have said, its the service that needs refinement, especially for the price point.
Yes the hard product is mostly pretty nice, its just the soft product that needs some improvement to bring it up to world class standards.
notice senior an elderly flight attendant.
if this was an international airline it would be 30 year old person from the Philippines or South Africa with extensive customer service training in this category.
nothing derogatory towards her she gets the assignment hence seniority.
I enjoy every single video from your channel. Hope you had enjoy that champagne bottle!! :D
I forgot what the title read, and so I didn't even realise this was first class until you mentioned it at 7:35. It really was reminiscent of a business class seat... I see why people are spending their money elsewhere (and not AA)...
Unlike red wine, AA flight attendants do not improve with age. Your video just proved it.
lol great comment.
The service seems to be very slap dash and distincly charmless.
You took the words right out of my mouth. No finesse what so ever!!!
Agree. Whack and there you go. No finesse. Even says 'here you go james' if not mistaken. Well. Would never happen on Etihad or Qatar.
Agreed, and employees are very old (it is time to allow new people to take care of the business) they do not care about their look and they could be OK, but never will give you a fantastic service.
I thought it was friendly enough... but perhaps a little rough at times. Lol
@@FR-om2fl Nothing to do with their age, more to do with attitude. I have never seen a AA video tha would make me want to fly with them
The way the flight attendant throw your pillow hard…
I'm glad you had a friendly FA. The bad reputation of AA's FAs (at least on domestic US flights) is the reason I avoid AA.
Yeah a lot of them are pretty grumpy on some flights.
the look on old mate's face across the aisle around 7 min 27. who se this guy talking to and has he got my best side in the shot. classic
lol yeah its pretty amusing watching that bit.
That tray table was huge, and the bed looks super comfy... I like the idea of a lumbar cushion, but would probably throw it out after about 1 minute. 😆 Great you enjoyed your flight... another great review.
Yeah the lumbar cushion sounds nice, but I just did not use it. Thanks for watching as always.
@@Whenitraveltheworld Thanks for supplying great content to watch! 👍
Hope you have a great week.
@@Whenitraveltheworld Thanks, man. Don't work too hard. 🙃
lol thanks, i'm still recovering. Doing it all again on Friday.
Would it be more appropriate to start your travel log after you shower?
Another great video but the bloke next to you (7.25 mins in) clearly thought you were insane and were talking to yourself!
Yeah he definitely thought I was nuts lol
Great vid. Honestly while I get what you mean in terms of some of the service some of her demeanor just strikes me as very midwestern American. They aren't rude they are just a very straightforward bunch of people. Very matter of fact.
I really enjoy all of your vids. I am traveling internationally soon, so I have been looking at vids like yours to know what to expect.
The seat is very open but masses of bedding as you say... Thanks for the video!
Indeed, thanks for watching and the comment.
I can't wait to try Emirates first class on both A380 and B777. Not bad but ok AA 1st class.
A very beautiful and exciting flight of American Airlines. Are there grandmas also in the cockpit?👌
I did not see any in the cockpit. Thanks for the comment.
FYI from the flightdeck we cannot even see the wingtips and barely hear the engine sounds during takeoff.
