I randomly saw Joey in the late 90’s walking on the sidewalk in Pittsburgh. I said Joey what’s going on?!? First words out of his mouth was, “Do you know where I can get some fish?”. True story.
did you know where he could get some fish?
What kind of fish?
@@sadvio666
A fish you get in the store (can’t remember the quote)
Makes sense, he was pescatarian so he didn’t eat meat, just fish
Wholey's fish market in the strip
Joey Ramone is that rare rock star that seems like a genuinely nice guy.
Will R love
Will R Most punk stars are and were cool because they are real. I have had a chance to meet quite a few guys in the biz and most guys are who they are onstage and off. Only said hi to Joey a few times but one of my teen year aquatences, co- wrote and produced some of their later records. He also played guitar on Joey’s solo record.
He's the total opposite of GG Allin.
have SuCH a crush on him still
The punk scene is flooded with that. Stay away.
Joey was a real unique guy. Such a great figure in rock history.
Certainly was.
NZ
To me, he IS Rock and Roll!!
Not often enough do you see a musician who's legitimately funny and humble. How lucky we are to have been born on the same planet as Joey Ramone!
Every bit as good a fellow as you all imagine
Humble??? He calls himself the band that started punk
@@serdownofhousebad1127 And? Why does he say these things you ask, it's simple: facts.
@@theseanlegacy1795 bro Ramones are protopunk at best, just because they were loud doesn't mean they were the first punk band. There's no such thing as a first punk band, heaps of musicians were already changing into those sounds and beats before the Ramones like famously The Stooges. I like Joey and his personality but saying you started punk is so pretentious and non punk of him to say
@@serdownofhousebad1127 But it's true!
I felt really bad when Connan asks Joey about settling down and getting married, because now we know he was suffering from lymphoma, and he said he loved life and was hoping to get married. RIP Joey Ramone.
TheDabdus :'(
What about The STOOGES? .. . THEY did punk before ANYBODY. Oh, and he looked like the actor Richard Belzer with the short hair.
Punk actually started in Siberia Russia. But it's rare anybody knows. Guess our ego is too big.
@@creepyskulldini581 it started in Russia homie.
@@jasonpuliz1563 That's right, I certainly did not know THAT. Who were the groups?
They all stood up when he walked in, and meant it. Respect.
they stand up when every guest walks in lmfao
@@SuperNils666 They stood up faster and more eagerly.
They revered him
6:22 I've watched this many times and it's still heartbreaking when he says "I hope so, at some point" because he said it knowing there would be no such "some point" because he was already dying.
Joey was always overly optimistic, believing in the slim chance that he would make it out. The band's longtime collaborator, the late Arturo Vega, recalled that even during Joey's final days, he refused being fed with tubes because he was afraid it would hurt his singing voice.
@@ohnose4455🥺🥺 Joey Ramone was great..
I Know i just read that from you and i was amazed at his attitude. He was awesome , my favourite man of all times!!!
This interview is so great, Joey's tone and attitude can't be beat. For such a punk he's so laid back and sophisticated, what a guy.
Mega all the old punks back in the day we’re amazing for that, look jello Biafra and Henry Roland different punk styles but they were very smart
@@robmorris4426 exactly, not only for the style

Joey seemed like such a gentle soul and he's really funny.
Yep he did
PabloCruise91 agreed!
So funny
well yeah but also he pissed in the beer
@@bgttgb100 well Rotten was a prick so he sorta deserved it I like rotten don't get me wrong but he was pretty violent in terms of attitude
Joey really had so much natural charisma when given the stage. He deserved so much more time.
Joey Ramone looks like the funniest and chillest dude to be around. ‘We’re screaming out for help’ 😂
So sad when he said he'd like to settle down in his life... ;(
R.I.P. Joey Ramone!!!!
RIP. Great musician
Joey is my favorite band member he is aowsome
He loved life till the moment he died
Actually he was a depressed Alcoholic that suffered from ocd, schizophrenia and severely low self-esteem.
Joey had been sober for some time, actually. By all accounts, according to his brother Mickey, he was at peace...besides the illness. No idea where you get your funny info.
Loved Joeys voice. Talking or singing. Loved Joey.
Nice comment, man. I couldn't agree more. I really miss him. Greetings from Argentina.
I have a crush on him actually
I'm totally with you! I liked hearing them all speak, but I've always liked Joey the most
he seems really shaky.. i feel bad for the guy..
He has a big New York accent
its crazy how joey is over a decade older than conan. RIP Joey, hed be 69/70 this year \m/
I swear Joey Ramone looks like a character from Bob's Burgers, and I love him for that.
It's cool he mentions " Green Day" and " The Offspring" , both Bands that had the " Ramones" as their Influence
He just said that
Shame they pissed all over it.
@Erik Lawson woah ur buggin
Hugo Laguna Joey Ramone loved The Offspring and Green Day
@Erik Lawson youre too punk for us.
Howard Stern stole Joey's look in the 90's
Whoo whoo I invented long hair and sunglasses, Robbin
always knew he looked like someone else
He actually stole it from Dee Snider, but his ugly ass ended up looking like Joey.
@@82avidfan all 3 of them are pretty ugly.

This guy was a real gem of a dude.
A gem you say!!! A pure gem💎
i just wanna hug joey, he is such a loveable person. sad i never got to see them live, they are my favourite band ever, no questions asked.

What a charming sweet man. I miss him!
Probably the most animated and happy I've ever seen him. What a great interview.
Even though he knew he was dying.
Joey Ramone was an absolute legend.
Joey Ramone, probably rocking the afterlife, still the coolest, still amazing in 2019. Love his 'we're screaming out for help' comment.
Man... I wish I could have a talk with this guy even for a few minutes. A Legend!!!!! So simple, gentle and funny at the same time. R.I.P. We miss u Joey!

I don't think he gives a flying FUCK!😆
That broke my heart when he asked him about relationships. Not knowing we would only be blessed with a few more years. Brings me to tears. I love that band as they were our twisted beach boys💀🖤🖤🖤💀
The way he says, “from mars or something like that” with his little smile 😍
R.I.P. Joey Ramone you will always be my favorite member and one of my favorite singers

Joey was such a cool guy. He got to live the life. He made it out of the life of a loser to being one of the greatest frontmen in the history of rock. He wasn't in it to get paid or laid. He was just a regular guy representing.

Stoney 21 That comment is so poignant even if he didn’t intend it that way.
First time I heard the Ramones was when I was 16, someone gave me "Loco LIVE". It changed my life.
loco live did it for me too
He's so funny! i thought he'd me more introverted, but he's hilarious!
We did not deserve Joey Ramone. R.I.P.

Joey was one a kind. All our love to this guy!!!
Joey Ramone is fucking adorable
What an amazingly sweet guy; and an awesome lead singer / song writer. Fortunately, I got to see them at the Long Horn Ballroom, Dallas, TX back in 1987. Wish they were all still with us. RIP Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny!
i loved when he said it was a cry for help when conan asked what was with all the brains
I MET JOEY RAMONE YEARS AGO AND HE WAS AS NICE AS HE IS HERE.

2:24 "we did a show with Toto" - hilarious, I just can't stop laughing.
I remember listening to these guys when I was still in my carseat! My parents even got to see them in concert. I wish I could have seen them perform live, I'm sure it would have been awesome. Rest in peace Joey
He's handsome
He was such a cool guy
what a horrible thing to say Joey Ramone was not ugly he was a wonderful beautiful person when he fell and broke his hip in the city people walked all over him people stepped on him if somebody would knew who he was he would probably still be alive today his cancer got worse after he fell and broke his hip but people just walked on him that's a horrible thing to say and he was the most talented singer of all time
I am so sad to read that. People are awful.
😂😂😂😂
I watched this live in 99 and pretty much every year possible since. Wish Joey could've lived to see how big they are now.
100% Joey i still punk god!
Always loved Joey he's so real and not phony. Rest in Peace. I was at one of thier concerts in NJ and wormed myself to the front row and got to shake Joeys hand

@@-Vitalis- Ur an ASSHOLE SHUT UP DUCHE
@@vanessarizzo3992 Lulz.
@@-Vitalis-Joey was not 'cookie cutter' cute but in his way, he was beautiful. So many odds stacked against him from birth but he rose above and reached for his own personal star. In spite of his challenges, he became an icon, by many accounts he was kind, sweet and gentle by nature. He was quite shy but pushed himself. Shame that some still place more value on a persons looks over their soul and accomplishments.
@@carolk9s As long as they do good music e.g. The Ramones, they could look like a prolapsed anus for all I care.

All gone, now.
God bless Joey. God bless the Ramones.

Good Lord we miss you Joey. Only the good die young.
its brilliant how he asks to hear the entry version of Blitzkrieg Bop again and that he believed they did it well. It sure is a great honor to hear someone like Joey say something like that.

Joey was a fantastic singer!
He had one of the recognizable singing voices . Rock in Paradise🌷🤟🙏
I love Joey. Miss him like crazy.
Sometimes I just go and cycle through Joey's interviews, such a sweet soul.
So sad that he died shortly after this. But what a lovable guy. He surely brought happiness to so many people, including myself. To quote the old show Grounded For Life, “Son, the Ramones are more important than the solar system!”
That accent you wouldn't think he would have

(⭐1951-2002⚰️)

Such mad respect when everyone sang along
Joey.,Johnny.,Dee Dee and Tommy.......YES...., you've changed it all!!!
Without them., there wasn't a scene that we nowaday called "Punk-Rock" !!!
Thanx man. The first "Line-Up" of a starting band is full of ideas. Fortunately have Joey and Johnny all the time retain the Ramones sound. Even with many exchanges of bandmembers!!! Greez from the Netherlands!!! Ron.
MrNorthernSol English punk was very diverse - Rotten may not have liked them, but the arrival of the first Ramones album was a huge influence on many bands, who were probably listening to the Stooges and MC5 also (and Patti Smith, and Television... and the Saints...) and for many it was just down to how fast they could learn not to sound awful so they could get out there and be part of their local scene... which was what made it exciting for all concerned.
@MrNorthernSol that's simply not true, lots of bands cited the Ramones as crucial including the Damned and the Clash - I'm pretty sure you weren't there or you'd know better. I was, and I do.
Joey was real and like John Lydon went through severe medical misfortune on a very young age. Both are incredible musicians!
Joey was an awesome guy !
May 19, 2020 - Happy Birthday Joey. Still lovin' you
dam I loved that Guy.... miss you Joey !!! never give up! never give in! always believe!!!
Don't you miss the days when singers could be ugly as fuck , but it didn't matter as long they had talent ?
He DID have talent. But he definitely was "ugly"! Long live the RAMONES!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I found him quite attractive.
As a younger man, I think he was reasonably attractive. Just in a very unconventional way. Look up pics of him around age 30 without glasses. He looked alright.
dude joey is not ugly, he's just different... unusual haha
Joey Ramone was HOT , what are you talking about?
Joey Ramone is exactly how I imagine internet trolls to look like. Except he's funny and likable.
